InterStellar Dad

Chapter 2: Reincarnation

Jiang Miao, a person from ancient Earth in the 21st century, had experienced the interstellar era of reincarnation six thousand years later, and she considered herself very fortunate. Her home was spacious and well-lit, her parents appeared to have received good education, enjoyed a comfortable income, and led a respectable life.

When Jiang Miao was born, she felt that the man and woman who had brought her into this world, whom she called “dad” and “mom,” seemed to love her immensely. They took meticulous care of her, dedicating a significant amount of time to be with her. She had never even experienced a common cold or a rash.

She also felt that this couple, who were her parents, had an excellent relationship. At least in her eyes, they got along exceptionally well, and she had never witnessed them quarrel or argue.

In Jiang Miao’s memories, her parents in her previous life on Earth had constantly bickered throughout their lives. Even at the age of sixty, they still argued every day. Many of the married couples she had seen before had experienced the same. After all, courtship was one thing, but marriage was another. It was commonly said that marriage was the graveyard of love, and once people got married, romance often turned into daily squabbles.

So, in Jiang Miao’s view, a couple who never argued, behaved exceptionally politely, and lived in harmonious bliss could be considered in a perfect marital state.

However, as soon as Jiang Miao could crawl, walk, and operate independently outside her parents’ direct care, she immediately noticed something was amiss. Her parents, it turned out, slept in separate rooms.

This was relatively common, as some couples did separate bedrooms temporarily to take care of their children.

At first, Jiang Miao comforted herself with this explanation, until later when her worldview was shattered.

Because she stayed up late, Jiang Miao witnessed her dad bringing a beautiful woman home that night.

With an adult soul residing within her small body, Jiang Miao immediately sensed an unusual closeness between her dad and this unfamiliar woman. She became vigilant at that moment.

After all, she had been born into such a great family, and she didn’t want her family life to change.

But to her surprise, her interstellar mom, Mrs. Zhang Ya, seemed oblivious to everything and politely greeted the unfamiliar woman as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

As for her interstellar dad, Mr. Wayne Coso, after introducing Mrs. Zhang Ya to the stranger, he picked up little Jiang Miao with a smile and lifted her high, saying, “Little one, why aren’t you asleep yet?”

Then, he turned to Mrs. Zhang Ya and said, “It’s quite late.”

Mrs. Zhang Ya smiled as she took Jiang Miao in her arms and explained, “Mary seems unusually spirited tonight and can’t fall asleep. I’ll play with her for a while longer. You can go about your business.”

Yes, at that time, Jiang Miao was not called Jiang Miao. Her name after the reincarnation was Zhang Mary . When it came to naming her, Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Coso used a drawing lots method. Mrs. Zhang drew the “surname,” and Mr. Coso drew the “given name.” So, Jiang Miao received Mrs. Zhang’s surname and the name Mr. Coso had chosen. Put together, Jiang Miao became Zhang Mary .

After Ms. Zhang Ya said this, Mr. Koso said without shame, “It’s hard for you, I’ll take over next month”, and Mary Zhang watched her second-incarnation father intimately embrace the woman and enter his bedroom.

“They even kissed before closing the door!”

Little Zhang Mary was shocked!

She looked at the door to Mr. Coso’s room, then at Mrs. Zhang, and then at the tightly closed door of Mr. Coso…

The house was peaceful, and it seemed like no one thought anything was wrong.

Jiang Miao was in a bad state!

What on earth is going on? Dad brought his mistress into the house, and mom seems perfectly fine with it, very calm?

Even a fool knows what that couple went into the room for!

Jiang Miao had two apple-like cheeks, clenched two small fists like meat buns, and with her mind racing, she was about to rush into Mr. Coso’s room. She took two steps and then suddenly found herself airborne – Mrs. Zhang had picked her up in her arms.

“You should go to sleep, Mary,” she said.

“I want Daddy!” Jiang Miao waved her little fists and, using the childlike tone she had developed over the past two years, said, “I want to play with Daddy!”

“That’s not possible,” Mrs. Zhang pinched Zhang Mary’s chubby cheeks and said with a smile, “Daddy has a date today and we can’t disturb him.”

Jiang Miao was left bewildered.

Mrs. Zhang was not blind or ignorant, so how could she remain so calm and unaffected?

A confused Jiang Miao was forcibly brought back to her room by Mrs. Zhang, placed in her own little bed, and told a bedtime story. Mrs. Zhang kissed her forehead and cheeks. But even after Mrs. Zhang turned off the lights and left Jiang Miao’s room, she was still puzzled.

How could this be? Could it be that Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Coso’s relationship had already broken down, which is why they were living separately?

Were they staying together just for her sake?

If things continue like this today, will they get a divorce?

In the event of a divorce, who would she be assigned to?

Regardless of who it might be, what should she do if she ends up with a stepfather or stepmother in the future?

Jiang Miao was filled with wild thoughts, stayed awake for twenty minutes, and then couldn’t resist her body’s longing for sleep, so she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

The next day, she surprisingly woke up earlier than usual. She climbed down from her little bed by herself and quietly opened her door to see what was happening on Mr. Coso’s side. To her shock, she saw three adults sitting together at the same dining table, having breakfast. Each person had a smile on their face, they were speaking politely and courteously, and each person displayed good manners and education.

Two years after Jiang Miao had crossed over into this interstellar era and became Zhang Mary, her worldview was shattered by the harmonious and blissful image of the wife, husband, and mistress.

Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Coso, both attractive and kind to Jiang Miao, had formed an emotional bond with her over the two years they had spent together. Although, as an adult soul, she understood that marital relationships and parent-child relationships were two different things, from her perspective, she was very unwilling to lose either of them.

Jiang Miao, worried about the possibility of these two people divorcing and feeling powerless, was in a state of deep despondency.

Before, as an infant, life was too comfortable, too simple, and too smooth for Jiang Miao, and it wasn’t until now that she began to notice things she hadn’t paid attention to before.

First and foremost, when comparing it to the mistress, Jiang Miao realized that despite the apparent harmony between Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Coso, there was no sexual tension between them as there would be between a man and a woman. Their harmony could be described as being very “respectful” toward each other.

The second thing was that Jiang Miao only now realized that she had never seen any relatives other than her parents in the two years since her birth. There were no grandparents, no aunts, uncles, cousins, or any other extended family members.

Even if Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Coso were both only children, they appeared to be in their early twenties, and at that age, it didn’t make sense for all four grandparents to have passed away, right? There should have been at least one grandparent left for her.

Jiang Miao had never paid attention to this before, but once she realized it, it became difficult not to find it eerie.

What was even more bizarre was that after the mistress incident, Mr. Coso and Mrs. Zhang showed no intention of getting a divorce at all. Their life continued to be just as calm and blissful as before.

Soon, the month came to an end, and it was Mr. Coso’s turn to take care of Jiang Miao at home, while Mrs. Zhang returned to her job.

This seemingly harmonious yet truly bizarre situation left Jiang Miao deeply frustrated. But she was just a two-year-old toddler. While she could speak, she couldn’t directly ask the adults, “Are you getting a divorce or what’s going on? Give me a straight answer.” That would be far too shocking and might make people think she was a monster, wouldn’t it?

In this state of unease caused by the many unknowns, Jiang Miao’s sleep deteriorated, and her daily routine became somewhat disordered compared to before.

This led to a particular night when she couldn’t fall asleep even after her bedtime had passed, and she heard voices in the living room. This time, it was Mrs. Zhang who had brought a man home.

As they couldn’t resist their passion on the sofa, they were even caught by Mr. Coso, who had come out of the bedroom to get some water!

Jiang Miao huddled behind the sofa, her heart racing as she witnessed this chaotic scene.

The three participants in this chaotic situation were surprisingly composed, showing no sign of self-awareness like “Oh no, we’ve been caught!” or “Oops, we’re in trouble now!”

Mr. Coso took the water and teasingly said, “Please, pretend I’m not here, go on, continue.” He went back to his room with a suggestive smile on his face.

And unbelievably, those two people really did continue!

Jiang Miao, who had crawled back to her room, hid behind the door, her little fist clenched so hard that teeth marks were left on it, torn between conflicting emotions.

What on earth is going on? Could it be that the husband and wife have an agreement to have their own separate affairs?

Thinking like this… it doesn’t seem impossible.

Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Coso both seem to have received a good education, and their income appears to be stable, and they seem financially independent. If both parties can agree not to interfere in each other’s affairs, although it doesn’t quite align with traditional family values…

Jiang Miao thought, “It’s actually not something unacceptable.”
