Young Lady, You Have Peach Blossoms In April

One-Shot Part 1

T/N: I finished this a few weeks ago but I didn’t think I’d be posting this so soon. In any case, here it is! I had so much fun translating this and I hope you all enjoy it!

Jiang Lingzi, who had been single up until now, always kept the fortune-teller’s words in mind.

“You will meet your special someone in April of 2018.”

Keeping in mind the beautiful scene these words painted, Jiang Lingzi barely endured all the way until April.

After having lost all of the early spring, she regained her spirits, carefully dressed up and went out, every day looking more beautiful than the peach trees on campus.

April 1st, on that day, a senior she had known for a while but had only talked to a few times, sent her a message out of the blue through WeChat. He told her:

【I like you】

“Ah——” Jiang Lingzi suddenly rose up from the bed.

Her roommate sighed: “It’s obviously an April Fools’ mass text which was sent out to mess with people.”

Today was April Fools’ Day? It seemed that was really the case…… Disheartened, Jiang Lingzi straightened her back before rigidly falling back onto the bed.

April 2nd, Jiang Lingzi was followed by a male dog in heat for one and a half kilometers.

She had been scared of dogs ever since she was young and in this kind of situation, she ran like her life depended on it, the entire way back to the dormitory.

Her roommate was astonished by the sight, “This also counts as a peach blossom, right? That fortune-teller of your’s sure is amazing.”

Jiang Lingzi combed her disheveled hair and angrily threw back: “Who the hell wants this kind of peach blossom1[1] A peach blossom can figuratively mean a special someone, aka a romantic partner.!”

April 3rd, Jiang Lingzi was armed to the teeth, both hands in her pockets. She was much more vigilant when going out.

In the lovely spring sunshine, the fragrant scent of flowers floated through the air.

The day’s class ended, everything was as it should be. There was nothing unusual.

Was the fortune-teller’s prediction invalid? Jiang Lingzi couldn’t help being disappointed as she returned arm in arm with her roommate to the dormitory.

April 4th, there was no class.

Jiang Lingzi packed her luggage, preparing to return home to celebrate Qingming2[2] Qingming is also referred to as the Pure Brightness Festival and Tomb Sweeping Day. It’s a day where families will sweep the tombs of their ancestors..

Everything was ready to go. She began putting on makeup while looking at the mirror.

Her roommate let out a “Eyy——” while passing by: “You’re already heading home, what point is there dressing up like a clown?”

Jiang Lingzi patted on blush with her fingertips: “What if I meet a handsome xiao gege3[3] The original word used here was 小哥哥. The literal translation of this would be little elder brother. It’s slang for an amiable form of address commonly used by females towards handsome young men who are around the same age. Xiao means little and it’s usually used to make an address more affectionate. As for why they use elder brother, gege, that would be because if one is unsure of the other party’s age, it’s considered more respectful to assume someone is older. on the train!”

Her roommate nodded: “What you’re saying also makes sense.”

In the afternoon, Jiang Lingzi arrived at the station ahead of schedule. After going through the security check, she carried her bag over to the waiting area. The masses of passengers were closely knit; with the short vacation ahead, and the current stuffy spring weather, all of it combined made it hard to breathe.

The train finally arrived. As she got on and began looking for her seat, she stuffed the ticket, which she had been tightly grasping in her hand up until now, into her pocket and carefully looked around to see if there were any handsome guys in her vicinity.

The result? Of course there were none.

She lowered her eyes, plopped back into her seat, and dropped her bag into her lap. She looked out the window. A wash of blue covered the skies.

Jiang Lingzi couldn’t help but be dazzled by the piercing sunlight.

She started as a hand suddenly patted her right shoulder.

Jiang Lingzi turned around in surprise but only saw a pair of long legs. She raised her gaze, following the line of those legs until she saw the owner of the hand which had patted her.

A young man, wearing a short sleeved tee and trousers, was standing there with his head dipped down and looking at her. There wasn’t much expression on his face as he simply asked her, “Excuse me, are you perhaps sitting in the wrong seat?”

Whether from the young man’s overly handsome face or the aftermath of having sat in the sun for a while, Jiang Lingzi’s face became hot.

Flustered, she scrambled to find her ticket from somewhere inside her pocket. A few bills she had gotten in change from the shop which sold roasted sausage outside, inadvertently fell out.

Jiang Lingzi’s face heated even more and she stuffed the bills back into her pocket. Then she raised her head once more and took another look at the ticket and her seat.

Oh dear……

She really did see it wrong, she should’ve been in the middle seat.

Awkwardly, Jiang Lingzi got up from the seat and apologized in a small voice: “I’m so sorry, I misread the seat number.”

The young man curled his lips slightly: “It’s fine.”

He had a very good attitude but this only made Jiang Lingzi feel even more embarrassed. She cautiously flicked a glance at him before asking: “Then…… I’ll move to the middle seat?”

The underlying message in her words was, “Please step back into the aisle for a moment.”

The young man remained where he stood and asked her: “Do you like the window seat?”

For a moment, Jiang Lingzi looked back at him blankly: “It’s all right.”

The young man responded: “We don’t need to switch seats, you can just sit there.”

“Troublesome.” As he said this, his long legs folded and he sat down in the seat which should have been Jiang Lingzi’s.

Jiang Lingzi blinked, still a little embarrassed: “Is this okay?”

The young man raised his eyes: “It’s okay.”

Jiang Lingzi nodded and sat back down obediently.

He was quite good-looking.

The fortune-teller really didn’t lie to me!
