Warm Fuzzies

Chapter 15

Zilan was extremely shocked.

Worried that Little Nine-Tailed Fox might not eat enough and not knowing how much she wanted, Zilan played it safe by bringing out ten radish cakes at once. However, to his surprise, Little Nine-Tailed Fox finished them all while he turned his head for just a moment! She ate so quickly, and without choking!

Does she love radishes so much?!

Zilan realized that Little Nine-Tailed Fox could eat more than he had imagined. He was left stunned, taking a while to come back to his senses.

Then he moved his tail with a hint of disappointment.

Originally, Zilan wanted to eat together with her, but now it seemed impossible.

Xueli noticed the subtle change in Zilan’s expression. She hadn’t eaten anything yet and could feel her stomach growling.

Quickly, Xueli said, “It seems like I haven’t eaten enough! I’ll go get something else, and you wait for me for a moment!”

In the morning, Xueli helped Zilan check his wounds, and in the afternoon, she played with the small animals.

Zilan’s healing had entered the second recovery stage. Although he could move around a bit, his wounds were still at risk of reopening and getting infected. This stage required utmost caution, as the wounds were still fragile. In the case of such severe injuries, like those of the big snow wolf, there was a possibility of leaving lasting effects. For immortals, it could even lead to a loss of cultivation.

Xueli was extremely careful and attentive to Zilan’s injuries, determined not to let any problems arise. Ideally, she hoped not even to leave a scar.

She meticulously recorded Zilan’s condition every day and adjusted the daily medication based on his recovery progress.

Not a single detail was overlooked.

However, the small animals were concerned about something else.

“Xueli, does this wolf really not eat meat?”

After examining the snow wolf’s injuries and coming out to play with the little companions, Xueli was immediately surrounded by the small animals upon leaving the house.

Everyone seemed very curious about the wolf.

This snow-white wolf, falling from the sky, was a creature never seen before in the realm. It couldn’t speak the language of the forest, and it had suffered such severe injuries.

They knew nothing about him, and it was challenging to determine if having such a creature in the forest posed any threat.

Xueli noticed that the small animals had likely discussed for some time before she came out, but they couldn’t make up their minds. It seemed like they needed her guidance.

Xueli reassured them, saying, “This wolf has not shown any signs of aggression so far. I’ve been taking care of him for more than ten days, and he hasn’t made any attempt to harm me. Besides, when I fed him radishes, he quietly ate them.”

The white deer spoke perceptively, “But that only proves the wolf can eat a vegetarian diet. It doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t like meat. Earlier, he was lying in the same spot, unable to move. In order to survive, he would be willing to eat anything. The results in such a situation can only be taken as a reference, not a conclusion. Moreover, all living beings have feelings. Xueli, you are his lifesaver. Even if he hasn’t gained sentience, he will surely be grateful to you and won’t harm you. However, the same may not apply to the rest of us. In the eyes of that big snow wolf, besides you, everyone else might be considered potential prey.”

The white deer was one of the first animals to listen to Xueli songs, and her aptitude was clearly better than other small animals. She had been playing with Xueli since childhood.

Her mind was very clear, and after analyzing the situation,Xueli couldn’t help but nod in agreement.

Initially, the small animals had calmed down after Xueli reassurance, thinking they had a wolf to play with. However, upon hearing the white deer’s words, they couldn’t help but sniff fearfully, looking at each other.

Xueli nodded and said, “Little deer has a point. I’ll observe him more carefully for a while. However, just observing might lead to unexpected events. If there’s a way to increase certainty, that would be better. Any suggestions?”

The squirrel raised its tail, “Give him pine cones!”

The little monkey raised its hand, “Try feeding him more types of vegetables and fruits!”

The white deer agreed, raising her hoof, “Please, a certain nine-tailed fox, don’t just feed him radishes for your own desires!”

The little rabbit timidly raised its paw, “How about pretending to be food and see if he wants to eat us?”

“…………”

At the moment the little rabbit spoke, the lively atmosphere froze. A strange silence descended, and everyone looked at the little rabbit with horror. The surroundings became eerily quiet. The little rabbit shyly put down its paw.

Pretending not to hear the previous suggestions, Xueli eyes lit up, clapping her hands, “This idea is not bad!”

The small animals trembled with fear.

To be honest, the suggestion from the little rabbit was quite reasonable. The previous suggestions mostly revolved around careful observation, while the rabbit’s proposal was the most straightforward and simple.

What they wanted to know was whether this wolf, once completely free to move, would attack them. If he refused the meat offered to him, the likelihood of him attacking sentient beings would be low. Even if Snow Pear eventually released the snow wolf into the forest, they wouldn’t worry too much if they encountered him.

However, everyone knew that if this suggestion were implemented and failed, there would be severe consequences.

The possibility of the large wolf eating Xueli was already minimal. Snow Pear certainly couldn’t pretend to be food. However, in case the large wolf did eat meat and went berserk at the sight of food, who besides Xueli would be confident in escaping from those sharp claws?

The more Xueli thought about it, the more intriguing it became. She said, “The large wolf is severely injured and is in the process of recovery. It’s a critical time for replenishing his body, and his instincts might be stronger than usual. If he refuses to eat meat even now, it’s highly unlikely that he would attack other animals. This approach will clarify the situation quickly and provide a straightforward result. It’s a good method. The only question is, who will undertake this important task?”

She surveyed the surroundings and asked, “Any volunteers?”

The small animals huddled together, trembling with fear, avoiding eye contact with Xueli. They were afraid to be chosen for the task.

Snow Pear was surprised to see the rabbit siblings stepping forward. She had been prepared for the possibility that no one would volunteer for the task.

She comforted the small animals, saying, “Don’t be too scared. The trial will take place in my house, and I will set up protective enchantments to ensure your safety. I will be present throughout, and I won’t let any harm come to you. Of course, if no one is willing to go, we can think of another solution. But actually, in this realm, you don’t need to worry too much.”

Even though everyone trusted Snow Pear’s abilities in the magical realm, being close to the wolf was still a frightening prospect. Moreover, the fear of the unknown was always a factor.

At that moment, the little rabbit timidly raised its paw. When making the suggestion, she had mentally prepared herself for the possibility of having to step forward. However, being small and not particularly fast, she took quite some time to muster the courage to raise her paw.

Seeing the rabbit’s trembling appearance, the grey rabbit sighed and placed her behind him, saying, “Forget it. I’m her older brother; I’ll do it!”

The little rabbit looked at her older brother with teary eyes, feeling lost.

The grey rabbit pushed her behind him and continued, “My little sister is too young. Two years ago, she was scared just seeing Xueli, and she won’t be able to handle this. Don’t let her get close to the wolf; she might be scared off even before reaching it.”

He looked at Xueli and asked, “It’s just a wolf, right? So, what do I need to do?”

On the planned day, Xueli gathered everyone and began final preparations for the plan. The atmosphere was tense, and the little animals were visibly anxious.

Xueli, trying to lighten the mood, said, “Don’t worry too much. Everything is well-organized, and I’ve prepared for any unexpected situations. We’ll be safe inside the house, and I’ll be casting protective enchantments. Just remember to follow the plan, and everything will go smoothly.”

The little rabbit, who was chosen for the task, nodded nervously. Her older brother, the grey rabbit, patted her gently, offering reassurance.

As night fell,Xueli took the lead, guiding everyone into the house. The little rabbit was visibly nervous but determined. Xueli comforted her, “You’re doing a brave thing, and we appreciate it. Just follow the plan, and everything will be fine.”

Inside the house, they set up a room with a cozy atmosphere. Xueli used her magical abilities to create an illusion of a nighttime forest, complete with soft moonlight filtering through the leaves. The enchantments were cast to ensure everyone’s safety during the trial.

The room was filled with the fragrance of various fruits, creating a tempting atmosphere for the wolf. The little rabbit, dressed as an assortment of fruits and vegetables, lay on a large plate in the center.

Xueli, after making sure everyone was ready, whispered, “Remember, if anything unexpected happens, retreat immediately and let me handle it. Safety is the priority.”

As they waited anxiously, Xueli looked at the little rabbit and said, “You’re doing great. Just relax, and everything will be fine.”

The tension in the air was palpable as Snow Pear, with the help of the other animals, positioned the little grey rabbit on the plate. The room was filled with hushed whispers, and everyone held their breath, waiting for the grand entrance of the injured snow wolf.

As the preparations were finalized, Xueli took a deep breath and cast a final enchantment over the room. The illusion of the moonlit forest became even more vivid, creating a surreal atmosphere.

Xueli, with the plate now placed in the center, quietly opened the door and peeked outside. The little grey rabbit, lying still on the plate, looked surprisingly convincing as a pile of assorted fruits and vegetables.

Xueli signaled to everyone to be silent, and they all gathered around, hiding in the shadows.

Moments later, the snow wolf approached cautiously. His keen senses picked up the scent of the tempting fruits and vegetables. His eyes glinted with curiosity and hunger.

Xueli held her breath as the wolf, following the enticing aroma, entered the room. The atmosphere became incredibly tense, and everyone watched silently from their hiding spots.

The snow wolf sniffed around, seemingly intrigued by the illusionary forest. His gaze fell on the little grey rabbit, and for a moment, the room held its breath.

Suddenly, the snow wolf made a low growl, and everyone tensed. But to their relief, it wasn’t an aggressive growl; it was a sound of realization.

The snow wolf, with a blend of caution and curiosity, approached the plate. His eyes fixed on the little grey rabbit, and he sniffed around the “fruits and vegetables.”

As he got closer,Xueli monitored every move, ready to intervene if things took an unexpected turn.

The snow wolf reached the plate, and with a gentle nudge, he sniffed the little grey rabbit. The room remained silent, the suspense almost unbearable.

Then, unexpectedly, the snow wolf laid down beside the plate, seemingly comfortable and relaxed. Everyone, hidden in the shadows, exchanged glances of relief.

It seemed like the plan was working, and the snow wolf, at least for now, showed no signs of aggression.Xueli silently signaled to the little grey rabbit to stay still, and she observed the situation carefully.
