Chapter 14 – Misunderstandings Unravelled – Brother’s Scheme and Sacrifice

For four years, Xiang Yiheng kept his promise and never actively contacted Ruan Tang. He simply worked harder, in order to be able to fly over and visit him for a few days every month. Sometimes he would catch the boy going to school, the nanny taking the chubby little boy out for a walk, and sometimes the boy would come out on his own, pushing the stroller and holding the little baby with a blissful smile, not knowing what he was saying.

At first, he thought the child was Chen Rusheng’s, but as the child grew and his features became distinct, it was clear that he was a spitting image of himself. The day he finally figured it out, he hid in his car, trembling as he lit a cigarette. In a nearby park, the little boy, hugging Ruan Tang’s neck, suddenly turned his head and looked at him. The two locked eyes across the air, and the cigarette ash, untouched, fell on the wrinkles of Xiang Yiheng’s suit…

He didn’t want to wait any longer. That was his lover, his son… He had to force Ruan Tang’s hand.

When Xiang Jingting returned home from the company, his son was sitting on the sofa, smoking. In these four years, his eldest son had become more mature and assertive because of his step brother. Sometimes, even he felt intimidated, not knowing if it was something to be pleased about or something to be lamented…

The next day, Ruan Tang sat beside his son, smiling as he watched him playfully interact with his mother on the video call. The little baby suddenly said he was hungry while talking, so Ruan Tang put him down on the couch and let him find something to eat on his own.

“Mom, are you and Uncle Xiang doing well recently?” Ruan Tang looked at his mother’s face, wanting to ask about that person’s well-being as well. But after hesitating for a long time, he still couldn’t bring himself to speak.

Zhao Rui sighed inwardly as she looked at her son’s hesitant expression. “We’re both fine, but what about you? Now that you’ve graduated, what are your plans? You can’t keep staying abroad with the baby all the time…”

“I… I haven’t decided yet,” Ruan Tang’s eyes avoided direct contact as he gathered the courage to ask the question he wanted to ask the most. “How is he, my brother? Is he doing well?”

“…Your brother, Yiheng, is getting engaged.”

By the time the little baby ran back to the living room holding a cake, his father had already ended the video call. Ruan Tang sat motionless on the couch, tears streaming down uncontrollably. The little baby quickly put down the cake and climbed onto his father’s lap, extending his chubby little hand to wipe away his father’s tears. “Daddy, don’t cry. Who bullied you? Baby will fight them…”

Two days later, Ruan Tang packed his luggage and boarded the plane back to his home country with his son. Despite the more than ten hours of flight, he didn’t sleep a minute. Holding his sleeping son snugly in his arms, Ruan Tang felt a bitter taste in his heart. Did Xiang Yiheng really plan to marry someone else? Did he truly give up on me? If the baby knew that his father had married someone else and didn’t even know about his existence, would it be fair to the baby? It’s all my fault…

Xiang Yiheng anxiously waited at the arrival gate for Ruan Tang. He had no idea how Ruan Tang would react to the news of his engagement, but seeing the boy in such a hurry to come back, perhaps he had made the right bet…

Ruan Tang noticed the man standing outside the railing almost at first sight. After four years apart, the man appeared even more mature and handsome, and there were even a few young girls looking at him and giggling.

“Daddy, why aren’t we leaving? Are we waiting for Grandma to pick us up?” The little boy by his side tugged at his hand, curiously asking.

“Tang Tang, long time no see. Auntie Zhao has something to attend to, so I came to pick you up,” the tall and handsome man approached and took the suitcase from Ruan Tang’s hand. He looked down at the little boy, who was also staring at him, and deliberately asked, “Who is this? Is this your child with Chen Rusheng?”

Anger replaced the excitement and nervousness of their reunion, and he neither admitted nor denied it. Ruan Tang patted his son’s head and deliberately said, “Baby, call him Uncle!”

Hearing his own son calling him Uncle, Xiang Yiheng wasn’t angry either. He bent down, picked up the child, and ki*sed him on the cheek. “Baby is so good!”

Seeing the int*mate scene of the two embracing and happily laughing together, Ruan Tang’s anger subsided a lot. He walked forward and pulled back his suitcase so that Xiang Yiheng could hold the baby with both hands. The three of them continued walking like this. Ruan Tang remembered Xiang Yiheng’s engagement and was about to cling to his brother’s arm and act coquettishly when suddenly a female voice reached his ears.

“Yiheng! Sorry, it was difficult to find a parking space! Oh? You’ve already picked up your little brother?” The woman, wearing delicate high heels, ran over to Xiang Yiheng’s side and naturally wrapped her arm around the one he was using to hold the baby. Her actions were smooth and as if she had done it countless times before.

“Let me introduce you. This is Ruan Tang, my younger brother. And this adorable little baby is Tang Tang’s child,” Xiang Yiheng said while rubbing his forehead against the baby’s, “Tang Tang, this is Ji Wei, your future sister-in-law.”

Xiang Yiheng playfully looked at his stepbrother, hoping to glean something from his reaction. However, the boy simply took the baby from his arms and politely smiled sweetly, saying, “Hello, sister!”

The four of them drove back to the Xiang residence, where Xiang Jinting and Zhao Rui had been waiting for them. The baby, carried in by Ruan Tang, held tightly onto his father’s neck and carefully observed the unfamiliar house he had never seen before.

Upon seeing them enter the house, Zhao Rui quickly went over to play with the baby. As the baby recognized someone familiar, he gradually let down his guard and happily ran to Zhao Rui, calling out “Grandma” in a milky voice.

It was the first time Xiang Jinting saw his grandson, and he couldn’t help but feel that this little cutie resembled his son so much when he was young. He gratefully glanced at Ruan Tang, conveying all the unspoken words in that look. Ruan Tang blushed under his gaze and was afraid that Xiang Yiheng would notice something, so he reluctantly had the baby call him “Grandpa.”

“Grandpa~”

“Ah! Ah!”

Xiang Yiheng helped his stepbrother carry the luggage into the room, but as he was about to leave, he was blocked by Ruan Tang, who pushed the door open.

“Do you have nothing to say to me, big brother?” Ruan Tang stared fixedly into Xiang Yiheng’s eyes. “We haven’t seen each other in four years, and now that I’ve returned, you bring me a sister-in-law?”

“You silly child, what nonsense are you talking about?” Xiang Yiheng patted his stepbrother’s head, as if dealing with a child. His boy had really grown up. The once chubby round face now had distinct features, soft hair casually falling on his forehead, radiating a dazzling charm even without deliberate grooming.

“Four years ago, I promised you that I would only be a brother by your side. I’m at the age to get married now, and even if I marry, I will always cherish you…”

The man’s unfinished words were interrupted by the boy.

“Cherish me? Like how you used to cherish me in bed?” He almost burst out laughing at Xiang Yiheng’s words. He had been so busy that he hadn’t contacted him in four years, and now he suddenly said he was getting married.

Ruan Tang was still an inexperienced child when it came to worldly matters. He cried and threw himself into Xiang Yiheng’s arms. “No, I won’t allow it… You don’t know, you don’t know anything at all! The baby, the baby is your child… I knew I was pre*nant, but you said you didn’t like children…”

The man was utterly confused by what he was being told. “When did I ever say I didn’t like children?”

Ruan Tang repeated the events of that day, growing sadder and sadder as he spoke. His tears and runny nose smeared all over the new shirt the man had specially brought to pick him up. He had truly believed that his brother didn’t want a child, didn’t want to take responsibility, so he ran away.

The misunderstanding was cleared, and Xiang Yiheng let out a heavy sigh, pulling the boy in his arms and smiling helplessly. “You’re so foolish and impulsive, causing us to lose four whole years… It’s also my fault for not noticing your abnormal behaviour during that time, I’m sorry…”

Looking at the man’s affectionate and self-blaming eyes, Ruan Tang shook his head. He was about to say it was alright when a knock on the door interrupted them.

“Yiheng, Tang Tang, are you inside? Aunt Zhao said we can start dinner.” It was Ji Wei’s voice.

Xiang Yiheng was about to go open the door but was stopped by Ruan Tang grabbing his arm. He turned around and saw the boy with a look as if he was about to cry, stubbornly holding onto him and not letting him go. He knew what the boy wanted to ask, but he still didn’t explain. “Let’s eat first.”

It was just a dinner, but Ruan Tang was on the verge of tears countless times from witnessing the interaction between the couple across the table. The baby sat beside his father, feeling his low pressure, and ate the meal with great unease. The awkward atmosphere only dissipated when Xiang Yiheng saw Ji Wei off and Xiang Jingting tactfully led Zhao Rui and the baby upstairs into the bedroom. He had observed the situation just now, and it seemed that the misunderstanding between the two could be resolved tonight. Tomorrow, his well-behaved grandson would finally acknowledge his roots.

Ruan Tang sat alone on the sofa, aimlessly flipping through TV channels with the remote control, waiting for Xiang Yiheng to bring back his “fiancée.”

The front door opened, and the man walked over to the sofa, looking at the drowsy Ruan Tang. He lifted him up, cradling his legs and back with his arms, and walked slowly into the bedroom.

Ruan Tang woke up on Xiang Yiheng’s bed, turned over, and lay on the pillow, taking a deep breath. His brother still had the familiar scent of cologne from years ago. The sound of water came from the bathroom, and the boy got up, standing by the bed and taking off his own clothes before pushing open the bathroom door.

The warm water cascaded down the man’s muscular body, sliding along the tense muscles and eventually falling to the ground. Ruan Tang wrapped his arms around the sturdy n*ked body in front of him, his fair and tender little hand caressing downwards from the chest, passing the taut abdomen, and finally resting on the dense thicket below.

The man pretended not to notice, allowing the boy to continue with his increasingly audacious actions. Ruan Tang opened his mouth and bit the moist shoulder of Xiang Yiheng, his tongue teasingly licking the patch of skin between the soft lips. His fingers pulled and tugged at the p*bic hair between Xiang Yiheng’s hips.

Seeing that the man still had no reaction, Ruan Tang pressed his br*asts against his back, using the soft flesh to stimulate him. His small hand reached up to touch the partially er*ct p*nis. It had been four years, and it seemed like his brother’s size had become even thicker… The boy felt his own neglected c*nt trembling and moistening, ready to release, but the man remained indifferent.

“Brother, do you not like Tang Tang anymore?” Ruan Tang thought of the man’s beautiful and s*xy fiancée, and suddenly felt uncertain in his heart.

Xiang Yiheng dared not tease him any further. He turned around and pulled him under the shower to bathe him. The boy’s enticing body was covered in white foam. “You’re talking nonsense again. If I don’t like you, who else could I like? Tang Tang has already given me a baby…”

“Then why are you engaged to someone else? Why are you going to marry someone else?” The boy closed his eyes as Xiang Yiheng rinsed off the foam from the top of his head. He coquettishly asked, “You don’t want me at all, don’t want me and the baby…”

“How do you know? I fly over every month to see you both, did you know that?” The man admitted, taking a towel from the rack and drying the water off the boy’s body. “If I didn’t let Aunt Zhao say those things, would you have come back? Why didn’t I realise before that you were so stubborn?”

His tone was filled with doting affection. The boy, now clean, held onto his neck and jumped up, wrapping his legs tightly around his waist. Finally, the same sweet and silly smile from four years ago appeared: “Even if you dislike me, it’s useless. Now that I’m back, I won’t let you be with anyone else.”

Xiang Yiheng hugged his waist, fearing that he might slip in his restlessness. “And what about you?” he asked.

“Hehe, I’m yours too! Both me and the baby are yours…” The boy’s voice trailed off with a playful tone as he disappeared into the man’s awaiting lips.
