Married to the Male Lead’s Hidden Rich Brother

Chapter 74: Extra 8: Yan Xin’s Righteousness Part 2

Yan Xin rested her chin on her hands, watching with curiosity. As she continued to watch, she eventually fell asleep.

When she woke up again, she found that Zhen Guoan was in her father’s office, and there were a few others with him. Yan Xin was startled and quickly jumped off the chair, hiding behind her father’s desk.

With wide eyes, she listened as Uncle Zhen spoke to her father, saying, “Ah, Yan Wei, why are the taxes so high?”

Yan Wei smiled and asked, “Are they very high?”

Zhen Guoan replied, “We’ve paid more than half of what we’ve earned. After paying taxes, salaries, and bonuses, there’s hardly any money left for us.”

Yan Wei nodded and said, “Well, we have to pay what we owe. Go ahead!”

Zhen Guoan and the others left in frustration. Yan Xin secretly peeked her head out from behind Yan Wei’s desk, curious about why they weren’t happy. Did paying taxes mean giving away money?

She climbed back onto the chair and looked at her father, asking, “Daddy, why weren’t they happy?”

Yan Xin had tears in her eyes as she pitifully said, “Half is too much.”

Yan Wei ignored her and ate his half of the cake. Then he said, “Uncle Zhen and the others just came to talk about this. Daddy has to give away half of the money he earns every month to the country, and that’s called paying taxes.”

Yan Xin didn’t have a clear concept of giving away half the money, but she knew that her dad’s earnings were always enough for their family to live on, as her mom had told her.

Yan Wei pointed at her cake and said, “It’s like your cake. Even though the entire cake is rightfully yours, you still have to give away half. Even though the money the company makes is earned by your dad’s hard work day and night, enduring hardships and sleeping outdoors, he still has to give away half.”

With the cake as a comparison, Yan Xin instantly understood that half was more than she had imagined.

She asked unhappily, “Dad, why do they want to take away half of our money?”

“Because they need to distribute that half of the money to people in society.”

Yan Xin was even more confused and asked, “Why?”

Yan Wei asked her, “Do you want to know?”

Yan Xin nodded, and Yan Wei stood up, saying, “Alright, then. Daddy will take you to find out.”

Yan Xin nodded and hopped off her chair, following Yan Wei closely. Yan Wei took her to the garage, got in the car, and started driving before he began speaking. He said, “Paying taxes is something everyone should do, whether it’s for political, strategic, or fairness reasons. This society has this mechanism, and it has its reasons. The more one earns, the more they pay in taxes, and that’s also part of the system.”

Yan Xin tilted her head in confusion and asked, “Why do we have to give away our hard-earned money? Is this system fair?”

At a red traffic light, Yan Wei said, “The system is set by the country, and so are the resources.”

Yan Xin paused, and Yan Wei continued, “In this world, there are many people, like us, we have you and Yan Miao. You can fight, and Yan Miao can study. But you both can’t earn money, right?”

Yan Xin nodded, and Yan Wei went on, “Now, I have a sum of money that can send one of you out to work and earn money. This money can also serve as startup capital for one of you. If it’s you, you can use it for your weapons, and if it’s Yan Miao, it can be used for textbooks. But Daddy’s money is limited, so only one of you can go out.”

Yan Xin pursed her lips, and Yan Wei asked her, “I give you the money, you go out, get soaked in the rain, scorched by the sun, run long distances, climb high mountains. You use the startup capital I gave you to earn some money, and then when you return home, I have to split your earnings in half with Yan Miao.”

Yan Xin exclaimed, “Why? I worked so hard, got soaked in the rain, scorched by the sun, ran long distances, and climbed high mountains. I worked so hard to earn that money, but my brother, who did nothing and stayed home every day, can take half of it? That’s not fair.”

Yan Wei smiled and said, “If you think it’s so hard, then let’s reverse it! I’ll give the money to Yan Miao, and then he goes out, gets soaked in the rain, scorched by the sun, runs long distances, and climbs high mountains. He earns a lot of money and comes back, and I’ll take half of it from him and give it to you.”

Yan Xin was taken aback again, and Yan Wei asked her, “Is that fair?”

Yan Xin thought for a moment, wanted to nod, but then felt embarrassed about her previous statement, so she hesitated.

“Do you think it’s fair?” Yan Wei asked again.

Yan Xin shyly twisted her chubby body, and Yan Wei glanced at her through the rearview mirror, then asked, “Why do you suddenly think it’s fair?”

Yan Xin said, “Daddy gave the money to my brother and not to me, so…”

Yan Wei smiled and said, “Yes, Dad’s money represents the bigger picture, the system. Anyone can earn a lot with the money, but it’s limited. The world is full of talented, hardworking individuals who can fully utilize their abilities. What’s rare is the lack of opportunities given to them. Factors like birth, capital, and even the era in which you were born influence a person’s entire life. From a small perspective, everyone feels that they work hard for their money, so why should they give half of it to the country, which then redistributes it to others?”

The car stopped at a hospital, and Yan Wei got out of the car, leading Yan Xin towards the hospital. He continued while holding her hand, “But when you look at it from a broader perspective, without this system, without the resources provided by the country, you wouldn’t even have the chance to earn this much money. When you earn money, it’s because the system has chosen to allocate resources to you. The system doesn’t care about who is rich or poor in this world. Its purpose has always been to increase the total wealth of society and then effectively distribute a portion of that wealth to those who haven’t been chosen by the system and, as a result, haven’t seen an increase in wealth.”

Advertisements

In the hospital lobby, people were coming and going. Yan Wei stood with Yan Xin at the entrance and spoke softly, “The purpose of the system is right here—to improve the overall welfare of society.”

Yan Wei took Yan Xin to the payment counter, where she saw that many people, after settling their bills, carefully checked their expense receipts and then smiled as they told the person next to them, “I paid 16,000, but I got reimbursed more than half. I only paid 8,034 yuan, which is a great deal!”

The people nearby leaned over to look and said, “The country’s welfare has been getting better lately. When I get old, I wonder if the national pension will increase?”

“I don’t know, but my mom has insurance. By reimbursing it again this time, we can save some money.”

The two of them continued talking and walked past Yan Xin. Yan Wei lowered his head to look at Yan Xin and said, “Welfare needs money to sustain, just like the development of society. As the chosen ones, we have our obligations.”

Yan Xin seemed to understand, but she had her own question. She looked up at her dad and asked, “Dad, can the chosen ones be replaced?”

“Of course,” Yan Wei looked down at her and said softly, “For example, if the government plans development in a coastal area, the people within that plan become wealthy; they are the chosen ones. However, if the government changes its plans to a different area, the wealthy individuals change too.”

Yan Xin suddenly had an epiphany. She nodded, understanding why her dad shared half of the cake with the country. It was because of his responsibility.

“Yan Xin, you are fortunate compared to others, born into the Yan family as my child. I’ve provided you with the best education, sent you to the best martial arts teachers. And yet, you used what you learned to bully your classmates. Now, do you understand where you went wrong?” Yan Wei held her hand as they left the hospital. After a day of laying the groundwork, he wanted to teach Yan Xin not just about responsibility but also about justice.

Yan Xin was deeply moved by her father’s words today, and she felt her horizons had expanded. She nodded and said, “I know I was wrong.”

As Yan Xin grew older, what Yan Wei imparted to her on that day kept her on the path of righteousness.

Whenever Yan Xin felt the urge to fight, she would crouch near the cafeteria entrance, waiting for the troublemakers who bullied others to show up. If these bullies didn’t victimize anyone, Yan Xin couldn’t victimize them either, so she often had to wait for someone to be mistreated.

Advertisements

Then, when the troublemakers began to assault someone, she would also step in and confront them.

Over time, everyone at No. 13 Middle School in Yiwu City knew that there was a student named Yan Xin who specialized in fighting at the cafeteria entrance.

Yan Wei: “…” Well, I guess she learned to stand up for justice?

In any case, Yan Xin’s life was just beginning…

Please support my new novel, coming soon. It will replace Married to the Male Lead’s Hidden Rich Brother, this novel, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It’s an ancient era genre called “Casting Nets to Catch a Husband.” It was about a beautiful girl who was sold by her family and became a prostitute.(More like a geisha because she just performs dances and sings for the men.) She died before they can sell her body to the highest bidder and woke up (rebirth) to the time before her family sold her. Here you go…

Casting Nets to Catch a Husband

Liu Yu, with her exquisite beauty, was sold into a brothel by her heartless parents in her previous life and died on the night she left the pavilion in the most luxurious brothel in Yangzhou City.

When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the year she was fifteen, just one month before being sold to the matchmaker by her parents.

With her rebirth, there was one urgent matter at hand.
Within a month, she had to find a good husband for herself, escape from the Liu family, and avoid the fate of being sold in her previous life.

She took all the money she could spare, knocked on the door of the matchmaker’s house in Changfeng Town. And as soon as she left the matchmaker’s house, she met a young man. The matchmaker whispered to her, “Lu Chengxiao, the third son of the Lu family, the owner of the Lu Feng Cloth Shop.”

Liu Yu understood; he was her third target.

Recently, Lu Chengxiao had encountered a beautiful woman several times and admired her. He was thinking it was a match destined for marriage.

It wasn’t until one day when they met in the mountains, the beautiful woman twisted her foot and couldn’t move so he carried her all the way.

When he returned to deliver the medicine, he saw the beautiful woman walking lightly, with no sign of a twisted foot. The heat behind his ears receded, and his eyes grew colder. He turned and went back to Changfeng Town.

Several days later, the beautiful woman shyly handed him a purse, thanking him for his help.

Lu Chengxiao sneered, “Thanking me for helping? That day, I turned back and saw the lady walking normally. Why would I need to help?”

“I can’t accept this purse. If we privately exchange gifts, it might be hard to explain later. It’s better for the lady to keep her dignity.”

Alright, this one couldn’t work. Liu Yu took back the purse, curtsied, and walked away…

Lu Chengxiao thought it was a decisive rejection, until several days later, he saw Liu Yu drop an embroidered handkerchief in front of the bookshop where the young man, Chen Sheng, worked. The gentleman picked up the scented handkerchief, and the beautiful woman blushed and thanked him. What a beautiful encounter.

Lu Chengxiao: “…”

A wave of frustration welled up in his chest, and he clenched his teeth as he tossed and turned in his dreams.

Until later, when he saw Liu Yu about to stage a falling-into-the-water scene, Lu Chengxiao panicked. He jumped into the river before Chen Sheng, pulled her ashore, held her slender waist, and couldn’t help but feel both angry and pained. He didn’t even want to ask more questions. He just held her in his arms and almost begged, “Don’t you want a good marriage? I’ll marry you!”

【This is a story that begins with scheming, falls into love, with a heart full of sincerity, and ends up in a marriage. It is also a story of two major businesses rising, with elements of urban and farming life.]

If only the system truly wants the rich to pay taxes it’ll be fine. But the biggest taxpayers come from middle class and lower income households.
    Those billionaires, ayy

Not entirely sure I agree with everything he says or the examples used, but I understand what he’s trying to get at. He’s a pretty good teacher though, breaking things down in ways that his student can understand. At least Yan Xin is just trying to beat up those who do bad things only now… it’s an improvement.

She literally changed from her operation from overt to covert. I’m not sure she got her dad’s message well.
