Married to the Male Lead’s Hidden Rich Brother

Chapter 75: Yan Wei’s Treasure

(Sansukini: This is the very last chapter in this novel. I hope you guys love it as much as I did.)

Yan Wei was a chubby kid when he was young…

Yes, that’s right. The handsome and graceful Yan Wei, who looked like a divine being, was a chubby child when he was young.

Yan Wei was born weighing 8 pounds and 7 ounces, and his mother, Mao Jinghua, had to put in a lot of effort to give birth to him.

Yan Wei was mischievous in his childhood, running around in the mountains and rivers.

Despite being born in an era without high-tech electronic gadgets for entertainment, Yan Wei was fortunate to be born in a peaceful country with an abundance of wealth during his time. His family, in particular, was relatively well-off among the affluent households. They may not have had the absolute best in terms of food and amenities, but they lived a luxurious life by all standards.

When he was two years old, his mother gave birth to a little brother for him. The younger sibling was lively and adorable, and the two brothers got along well.

Growing up in this atmosphere of happiness, Yan Wei graduated from kindergarten. When he was six years old, his father enrolled him in a prestigious school that had suddenly become popular at the time.

Yan Wei’s chubby body squirmed, and he asked, “You know me?”

“Of course, come on! Uncle will take you to find your dad,” the man said, pulling Yan Wei to leave.

Although Yan Wei didn’t fully understand, he instinctively didn’t want to follow the man. He struggled and said, “I’m not going, I’m not going. I’ll have the teacher call my dad to ask.”

“Oh, why are you so troublesome!” The man said and, bending down, lifted Yan Wei up, heading towards an ordinary white van parked by the roadside.

Little Yan Wei was momentarily confused, and he shouted, “Help! Help!”

Then he felt a sharp pain in his head, and when he woke up again, he found himself in a dilapidated stone room. Yan Wei felt extremely frightened, he got up and called, “Dad! Mom!”

Of course, there was no response.

Yan Wei was scared and began to cry. Suddenly, the rusty iron door was opened from the outside.

A tall man walked in, and he immediately slapped Yan Wei in the face.

Even though Yan Wei was chubby, he was still just a child. A single slap easily sent him flying, and he landed on the ground, feeling a ringing in his head.

“You dare to make noise? Damn it, your mother reported to the police. To evade capture, we had to hide here and there. And you dare to cry in front of me?”

Little Yan Wei, only 6 years old, didn’t understand what was happening. He just looked at the man in fear and cried. The man, annoyed by his crying, lifted his foot and kicked him.

Yan Wei cried even louder, his voice turning into sharp screams. However, the person hitting him wasn’t his parents, so there was no compassion in their hearts. In fact, the assailant felt a sick sense of satisfaction, which made them hit Yan Wei even harder.

Advertisements

Yan Wei himself didn’t know how long he was beaten for. The man stopped when he got tired and left.

Yan Wei, who was thrown to the ground like a rag, couldn’t muster the strength to stand up. However, this was just the beginning.

After Yan Wei was abducted, his parents urgently reported to the police. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t catch the criminals in time. The two kidnappers quickly fled the city with the child.

The criminals were full of resentment. They had been complaining for days. They hadn’t even made enough money from the drugs they used to incapacitate the child, and they had spent more on gas. Now, they had rented a house in the countryside to lay low, not knowing when they could come out of hiding.

This pent-up frustration and inability to move freely somehow eased the anger of one of the criminals after he had beaten up the chubby child.

From then on, the two criminals began using the abuse of the chubby child as a way to release their stress.

Yan Wei, who had enjoyed six years of life as the young master of the Yan family, had never imagined that life could be so difficult.

No food, no drink, and everyday beatings…

The water the criminals gave him was collected from a dirty river in a mineral water bottle. Yan Wei had to drink from this bottle for three days, even though the water was dirty. In the face of survival, there were no other choices.

As for food, there was even less of it. The criminals were unwilling to spend a single penny on him. Consequently, Yan Wei’s meals consisted of stolen pig feed from other people’s pigsties.

Yan Wei couldn’t bring himself to eat it. The more he resisted, the happier the criminals seemed. “You won’t eat? Well, I’ll make you eat.”

If there was anything that could bring Yan Wei comfort during these endless days, it was probably the fact that everyone could sleep peacefully at night.

Advertisements

Until… even this became a luxury.

One night, as Yan Wei slept in a daze, he suddenly felt like he was being watched by a fierce beast. In his dream-like state, he couldn’t move. He struggled with all his might to wake up, and as he returned to reality, he felt a slight sense of relief. But at that moment, he realized there was someone standing by his bed, and it wasn’t just anyone; it was one of the kidnappers.

The kidnapper stood silently beside the bed, holding a kitchen knife and staring coldly at Yan Wei. “Tsk, what a hassle. Maybe I should just kill you and bury you.”

He raised the knife, and Yan Wei, terrified, cried out, retreating against the wall and clutching himself.

Just then, the other kidnapper arrived and, upon seeing the situation, promptly intervened. “What the hell, are you out of your mind? Kidnapping is one thing, but murder is another.”

Hearing these words, the kidnapper with the knife also snapped back to his senses.

Afterwards, the two kidnappers cursed and left.

But no one would ever know the lasting consequences of the shadow that had been cast over Yan Wei.

On the 21st day since Yan Wei was abducted, the two kidnappers were apprehended. The police launched a massive operation and surrounded the house, leading to the immediate arrest of the two criminals.

Mao Jinghua arrived at the rusty iron gate in tears. The police opened the gate for her, and she trembled as she looked inside the house.

The environment was pitch black, the air foul, and the room empty except for a wooden plank bed in one corner.

“Xiao Wei,” Mao Jinghua called out, and though sunlight poured in from the doorway, it couldn’t reach the dark corner of the room.

Advertisements

The boy on the bed remained motionless, showing no excitement at being rescued.

Hearing Mao Jinghua’s voice, his unmoving body finally shuddered, and he lifted his head to look at her.

Mao Jinghua saw him rise from the bed and approach her. The first thing she noticed in the now illuminated room were his feet, which had been exposed to sunlight first. They were covered in scars and caked with dried blood. With just that one glance, Mao Jinghua almost fainted.

Then she took in the dirty legs, tattered clothes, emaciated cheeks, and matted hair.

The once chubby child was gone. Standing before Mao Jinghua was a gloomy, frail, dirty, and heavily wounded child.

Mao Jinghua nearly broke down in tears. She cleaned him up and during the whole process, Yan Wei didn’t say a word.

Mao Jinghua then took the now cleansed child back home.

Mao Jinghua and Yan Yifei were, of course, consumed with guilt and were willing to do whatever it took to help Yan Wei.

If Yan Wei would let them.

However, Yan Wei never asked for anything, and he even stopped eating…

This was something that Mao Jinghua and Yan Yifei noticed early on. The child wasn’t eating? Were they scaring him?

The two of them tried to coax and praise Yan Wei, but he simply refused to eat, and whatever they managed to get into his mouth, he would spit out. But who doesn’t eat? Even with all their efforts, Yan Wei just wouldn’t eat.

When they were at their wit’s end, they discovered that the hungry child would only eat when he reached his limit.

At that moment, Mao Jinghua’s heart ached as well.

Later, they found that Yan Wei wouldn’t sleep either. Mao Jinghua would go into his room at night to tuck him in, only to find him sitting huddled in his bed, wide-eyed, staring at the edge of the bed.

Initially, it startled her, but she soon felt nothing but sympathy.

How could someone not sleep? The child must have been scared.

Mao Jinghua brought Yan Wei to her own room, hoping that being close to his parents would help him sleep.

But Yan Wei still wouldn’t sleep.

Just like with eating, Yan Wei wasn’t unable to sleep; he had to be utterly exhausted. However, a person can’t stay up all the time. So sometimes, Yan Wei had to resort to taking sleeping pills.

In this way, Yan Wei, who neither ate nor slept, received attention and care from his family in the days that followed. His only request was to learn martial arts, and after Yan Yifei fulfilled that wish, he stopped speaking altogether.

But everyone’s patience has its limits, even parents.

Yan Wei’s silence, depression, refusal to eat, and sleeplessness were like accusations against them. Day by day, month by month, year by year, they could endure it. However, as the days turned into months and years, they couldn’t bear Yan Wei’s persistent silence and blame any longer.

In the end, as parents, they chose to distance themselves from him.

“Even though we saved him.”

“Why won’t he eat? Why won’t he sleep?”

“What does he mean by doing this every day?”

Yan Wei had heard his parents’ arguments. He felt sorry, but all he could do was apologize silently in his heart.

I’ve been trying so hard to eat, but… I can’t.

Yan Wei lowered his head slightly. He knew it was his fault, but he couldn’t change.

The feeling of hunger wasn’t pleasant at all. It wasn’t just a simple desire for food; it wasn’t just a grumbling stomach. When hunger persisted, it caused pain and a loss of rationality.

It’s widely recognized that a human can endure hunger for up to 3 days without water, and if they are physically fit, they might last a bit longer. With water but no food, one can last for about 7 days. However, what they didn’t know is how incredibly challenging these 7 days could be. Symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, dry heaving, low blood sugar, and even hallucinations can manifest.

In a state of hunger, the human desire for food is very strong, and Yan Wei was no exception. But even in this state of intense hunger and desire to eat, he still couldn’t bring himself to eat.

This was the most agonizing part of it all. Yan Wei hung his head, unable to explain to his parents.

He was suffering, deeply suffering. He tried so hard not to make them dislike him, but he truly couldn’t help it.

If this is the only way, maybe it’s better to just die.

Yan Wei often thought like this…

After middle school, Yan Wei rarely returned home. He enjoyed the harmony between his parents and his younger brother, but the strange atmosphere that descended upon the family when he came home made him uncomfortable.

His younger brother was adorable, and his parents were good to him, but some things had changed.

After high school, Yan Wei chose to study abroad in the United States. His symptoms became more severe with age. The shadow in his heart wasn’t as heavy as it used to be, as Yan Wei felt he had acquired the physical strength to protect himself. However, mental illness is still an illness, and he needed medication to treat it.

But the medication Yan Wei required was something the world didn’t have…

When Yan Wei collapsed in Chuyi, he decided to return to his home country for rest. If he were to die, he thought, let it be in his own country! It would be a sort of homecoming.

In the end, what did he have to hold on to? It seemed like he couldn’t endure any longer.

With this thought in mind, Yan Wei decided to write a will. His will was quite simple: if he were to pass away, 80% of his assets would be donated, 15% would go to his parents, and 5% to his younger brother. The most significant gift he left for Yan Ye was a promise from Chunyi. If there ever came a day when Yan Ye truly needed it, Chunyi had to unconditionally help him once.

After drafting the will, Yan Wei went to Chuyi that day. He told Yan Ye, “After I’m gone, someone will bring my will to you. In return, you must take care of our parents for me.”

Yan Ye frowned and scolded him, “What nonsense are you talking about? You’re only 30 years old, how could you die?”

Yan Wei smiled. His life was like this, colorless and without meaning, even eating and sleeping had become sources of pain for him.

What did he need, after all?

As Yan Wei descended the stairs, his strength was already fading. He saw a woman across the street who was bumped into by a rushed young man. Yan Wei furrowed his brows, reached out, and caught her to prevent her from falling.

The woman he helped just stared at herself in a daze and then asked strangely, “Did you… stay up late last night?”

Yan Wei: “…”

If there were a medicine in the world that could cure him, I wonder if he would be fortunate enough to get her.

If I obtain her, I will dedicate my entire life to protecting her.

And I… am fortunate to have met you in this life, wishing that we will never be separated in this lifetime.

Thanks for the translation. As for the parents… Jesus. I get it, sometimes you just don’t understand PTSD and psychological illnesses, but it’s real hard to see and accept that sometimes people just don’t understand. I know people with eating disorders, I have something of a dysfunctional relationship with food too, and it’s just… not a thing that’s easy to get over at all or understand sometimes when you don’t and have never had such an issue.
