InterStellar Dad

Chapter 40: Dislike

However, Yan He didn’t say anything more about the Nash Republic. After all, this wasn’t a suitable occasion to discuss serious topics.

Champagne, elegant attire, jewelry, melodious music, holding a beautiful woman in one’s arms – this was a more suitable moment for talking about emotions.

Joe’s gaze occasionally shifted in their direction. When one dance ended, he seemed to be inclined to come over.

Yan He calmly led Jiang Miao in another direction. “How about introducing me to some of your colleagues? As you said, our lives should intersect too.”

This was Jiang Miao’s idea to begin with, and she readily agreed. She led Yan He around and introduced him to several colleagues with whom she had a good relationship on weekdays.

For some obscure reason, she vaguely mentioned, “Major Yan He is my male partner” when introducing him.

Little did she know that after she left, these doctors quickly abandoned the reserved demeanor of researchers and gathered together to gossip:

“Isn’t he that guy?”

“What an uncouth man, actually restricting the social freedom of such a beauty,” Joe complained.

Every time he tried to get close, that Yan guy would pull Jiang Miao onto the dance floor or take her to socialize with others. It was really shameless.

“Hahaha.” Tanaka laughed shamelessly, thoroughly enjoying the spectacle.

“You’re still laughing,” Joe complained, “With such a beauty around, you should have introduced her to me earlier.”

“Oh, don’t blame me. I mentioned it to her, but she was busy with Yan and didn’t have time,” Tanaka actually understood in his heart. Jiang Miao’s thoughts were all wrapped up in Yan He, and she probably wouldn’t have the time or attention to spare for others for a while.

“Then find a time to help me ask her out. Well, not now; I have to travel, it’ll be several months back and forth,” Joe put his arm around Tanaka’s shoulder and said, “Wait until I come back. Deal!”

There was a hint of mischief between his brows, different from the usual mature and steady businessman.

But Tanaka, being held in his arms, was completely oblivious, lost in his own thoughts.

Jiang Miao couldn’t remember how many dances she had with Yan He in total.

In any case, his warm palm remained on her back, conveniently exposed by the backless dress she wore tonight, allowing her skin to directly feel the warmth of his hand.

Another dance ended, and Yan He brought her a fresh drink.

But Jiang Miao didn’t drink it; she looked at him warily and said, “I can’t drink anymore, I’m feeling a bit dizzy.”

“Isn’t that the perfect state?” Yan He replied with a smile.

Jiang Miao became even more cautious and refused to drink. But she was indeed feeling a bit tipsy; her head spun, and she unexpectedly brought up an argument from her previous life.

“My mom used to say,” she said, “girls shouldn’t drink too much when they’re out.”

Yan He raised an eyebrow. “Your guardian, huh? She sounds strict.”

Jiang Miao snapped back to reality, stunned for a moment, then suddenly felt a sense of loss. “Oh, she…”

In a slight daze, Yan He suddenly leaned in and sealed her lips with his own. A sip of the drink passed through his lips and tongue to hers.

Jiang Miao made a couple of “Mmm” sounds but had no choice but to swallow it.

They were in a corner, but there were still people around.

Jiang Miao’s body was shielded by Yan He, but she could hear the surrounding laughter. These people walked away laughing, leaving space for them.

Don’t go! Come back!

Yan He released her lips, licked them twice, and sucked the alcohol stains from her lips. Before she could protest, he smiled, “Alright, that’s the last sip.”

“Your tolerance for alcohol is really poor. In the future, try to drink less when you’re out, especially when you’re with men, to avoid things that go against your will,” he earnestly advised.

At that moment, he looked like a good person again.

Hmph.

When the banquet ended, Jiang Miao wanted to say goodbye to Tanaka but found him drunk.

Joe princess-carried him into the car.

Ah, just like someone else’s boyfriend!

“Look at them!” Jiang Miao complained.

Yan He glanced at her sideways.

Having also drunk some alcohol, Yan He activated the autopilot for the journey back.

“Is Tanaka also such a lightweight?” he asked.

“He’s okay; he must have been too happy and drank too much,” Jiang Miao replied.

She had intended to wait until the project was finalized before mentioning it, but now, feeling inexplicably joyful, she told Yan He, “We’ve secured the big project.”

Slightly tipsy, her eyes were not as clear as usual, but they radiated a different kind of brilliance. The small sense of satisfaction at the corner of her eyes was even more adorable.

She was a lively person.

“Oh, Yan He!” she suddenly called out to him. Perhaps due to her slight tipsiness, her volume was unusually loud. She said as if shouting, “I’ve thought about it, Yan He! Don’t kiss me anymore in the future!”

“Oh?” Yan He asked, “Why not?”

“You should go find a girlfriend!” Jiang Miao said, “Don’t waste time with me. Let me tell you, during the child-rearing period, you shouldn’t even think about it. So, go and find a girlfriend. Aren’t you quite charming and capable? Go ahead.”

Yan He squinted, feeling like Jiang Miao was genuinely drunk.

Some alcohol had a delayed effect; it would take a while to kick in.

But Jiang Miao didn’t feel drunk, even though her head was indeed a bit dizzy.

She didn’t bring this up out of nowhere. Today, in Helena’s reception room, the old general said such things, and the female generals and colonels all chuckled in agreement.

They all thought that Jiang Miao and Yan He were definitely going to “start something,” and they believed that being in a relationship with someone as excellent and beautiful as Jiang Miao would be an excellent form of therapy for Yan He’s mild war syndrome1PTSD.

But Jiang Miao had no intention of being with Yan He during the child-rearing period. Being told this by the military personnel made her suddenly realize that this was inappropriate.

In recent days, Yan He’s affectionate gestures towards her had made her somewhat addicted to this quasi-romantic feeling, and she had been enjoying it. But, this was really not appropriate.

Yan He seemed to be perfectly normal, very cheerful, even a bit overly cheerful, but the medical certificate issued by the military doctor, with its black and white print, would not lie. He was actually a patient! And his illness was in his mind; he needed genuine relief and relaxation.

Simply being her private chef probably wouldn’t be enough… Jiang Miao just felt that she couldn’t delay Yan He any longer.

Even if Yan He was the father of her child, he should have his own life.

Of course, Yan He had no idea about Jiang Miao’s inner turmoil, but he found it amusing.

“Getting jealous?” he teased, smiling with a hand propped against his temple.

“Nonsense!” Jiang Miao snapped.

“Oh, really? Then why?” he asked.

Jiang Miao counted on her fingers. “Because, one, you need your own life. Two, I’m someone who only accepts exclusive relationships, including ambiguity. Right now, neither of us are seeing anyone else, and I’m okay with that. But once you’re with someone else, if you continue to be ambiguous with me, it’s absolutely unacceptable! I’ll hit you, I’m telling you! I was afraid of hitting Borent back then, so I ran away. But I’m sure I can’t hit you to death, so I’m not afraid. I’ll unleash hell and beat you to a pulp, I’m telling you!”

Yan He had clearly had quite a bit to drink today, but his eyes were exceptionally bright, showing no signs of being intoxicated.

“It seems like you’ve already convicted me,” he said calmly, “but I’ve actually turned down all the flirtatious advances today.”

“Just today you turned them down.” Jiang Miao glared at him. “A man like you, who can seduce a woman into bed in two minutes, wouldn’t it be easy for you to find another woman?”

Yan He propped his temple with his hand, staring at her for a moment. “Are you bothered by this?”

“No!” Jiang Miao turned her head away, facing the other side of the car window.

The car fell silent for a while, quite a long while.

“Alright!” It was Jiang Miao who couldn’t bear the silence first. She turned back and spoke truthfully, “I just find people like you annoying!”

“Only taking two minutes to seduce a woman into bed, you probably don’t intend to stay with her for long, do you? If I guess correctly, you’re done once it’s over, pull up your pants and leave, am I right?” she pressed.

For once, Yan He looked away first, even rubbing his temple with his fingers.

She got it right! Hmph!

They didn’t speak again until the car stopped at the parking platform of the balcony.

As Jiang Miao stepped out of the car, her legs felt weak, almost causing her to stumble. She had definitely had a bit too much to drink after all.

Yan He helped her steady herself, and Jiang Miao shook off his hand and walked towards the house.

“Isn’t everyone like that?” Yan He suddenly spoke.

Indeed, most people in this era were like that. It’s just that what Yan He could accomplish in two minutes, most people might take two hours, two days, or two weeks to achieve.

“So, I hate ‘everyone’,” Jiang Miao turned around and said, pointing her thumb behind her, “That’s why I have that thing in the storage room!”

“It’s just fulfilling physiological needs, isn’t it? Don’t mock my k70. It can fulfill all my physiological needs! It saves me from a lot of unnecessary waste of life!”

Jiang Miao felt more and more relieved as she spoke. Although she usually lived happily, why did she have this pent-up frustration? Being able to speak it out was truly refreshing.

“I really want to thank this era. Being born in this kind of era, I can have children without having to date or marry!” Jiang Miao said, laughing, “My guardian isn’t my real mom for sure, it’s the goddess of fate!”

Yan He knew Jiang Miao was truly drunk.

She was staggering as she walked, loudly giving orders, “Xiaona! Bring the k70 back to my room!”

Xiaona obeyed, directing the robot to retrieve the k70 along with its cabinet-style charging dock from the storage room and return it to Jiang Miao’s room, placing it in the corner.

Yan He leaned against the door frame, watching.

Jiang Miao’s bedroom was dark, and she hadn’t changed her clothes, just lying on the bed with her back to the door, her waistline curving beautifully yet coldly.

A girl like her shouldn’t be sleeping alone; she should have a man holding her tightly, giving her warmth, Yan He thought.

Suddenly, Jiang Miao propped herself up, glanced back, then lay back down heavily.

“Go away,” she said, “Stop standing there, blocking the door.”

But Yan He didn’t leave, continuing to cross his arms and lean against the door frame, preventing her bedroom door from closing.

Jiang Miao ignored him, closed her eyes, and drifted off to sleep.

After a while, it seemed like Yan He’s voice could be heard.

“I’m not like you,” he said, “I never expect tomorrow.”

“I don’t want to talk about my past with you, but every day in the past, I treated it as my best day on this earth, and also as my last day.”

“I only strive to live well for today, for the present, for what’s in front of me. When encountering a beautiful woman, if it’s something that can be resolved in two minutes, why wait for two days? Maybe I won’t meet her again tomorrow, maybe there won’t be me in this world tomorrow.”

“I can’t delay, the good in front of me, the happiness in front of me, the passion in front of me, I want to seize it immediately.”

“I… have always lived like this.”

Jiang Miao turned over, struggling to open her tired eyes.

The young man leaned against the door frame, arms crossed, his face obscured by the light from the corridor. His slender figure was a dark silhouette.

Blurry as it was, the silhouette drew closer and closer.

“You have expectations for tomorrow, for the people you meet, so you restrain yourself.”

“You dislike impurity, lack of focus, and disloyalty in relationships. I understand. If there’s another woman, I will respect your wishes and never touch you again.”

“But, since there isn’t…”

He bent down, leaning in to gently kiss her cheek.

“Goodnight, Jiang Miao.”

Sansukini: I’d say, these 2 people have more things in common than other people in the interstellar era, in the Gita Republic, at least.

I’m glad they got to have that conversation even though one of them was drunk. It was something that needed to be talked about, so I’m glad they did.
Also she’s gonna be so embarrassed after waking and realizing she moved the k70 back into her room in front of him lol
