He Confessed in the Backlight

Chapter 42

Inside the cave was pitch black, with only faint moonlight seeping through from outside, creating a serene silence.

Ruan Nianchu hadn’t expected that the first time she would actively embrace Li Teng would be in such a situation.

Although it was only to keep him warm, with his eyes closed and his consciousness blurred, the intimacy still made her uncontrollably blush.

Her fingers trembled as they passed through his narrow waist on both sides, wrapping around it, her cheek pressing against his chest. She was careful not to press on his wound.

At this moment, Li Teng suddenly woke up.

Opening his eyes in the darkness, his consciousness returned within a few short seconds. The body in his arms felt weightless, almost without substance, but he sensed something, causing his muscles to tense suddenly, his brows furrowing, and all his blood rushing to one place.

Ruan Nianchu, knowing that he had woken up, blushed even more. After a while, she cleared her throat and explained, “You said you were cold, but the grass is wet, and we can’t light a fire. I didn’t mean to take advantage of you.”

Li Teng’s forehead was covered in sweat. He wanted to hug her but held back, gritting his teeth, “Who told you to take off your clothes?”

Ruan Nianchu lowered her eyes in silence for a moment. However, her fingers tightened even more behind his waist, not letting go. He would develop a fever after catching a cold. Last time there was Aunt Xin’s fever-reducing medicine, but this time there was none. She couldn’t just let him be.

Her delicate arms tightened, pressing even closer.

“ā€¦” Li Teng was about to explode. Calming himself, he suppressed the restlessness in his heart and patiently said, “Ruan Nianchu, listen to me, put on your clothes.”

She still didn’t move, blushing, and scolded, “You should be the one to listen. I’m a girl, I don’t mind, what’s your problem as a grown man?”

He was almost furious. “It’s not about minding.”

“Then why are you complaining here?”

As soon as the words fell, Li Teng squinted his eyes, and in a flash, he pressed Ruan Nianchu down under him. Startled by this sudden movement, she widened her eyes, seeing him clamp her wrists tightly with one hand and bury his head, staring into her eyes with a wolf-like gaze.

Li Teng gritted his teeth, scaring her, “Ruan Nianchu, you know damn well that I want to sleep with you, yet you took off your clothes like this in front of me and act stupid? Do you believe I’ll do you right here?”

Ruan Nianchu was stunned for a moment, and in a few seconds, her face turned as red as a tomato. She stuttered, struggling to speak, “I’m afraid you’ll catch a cold and develop a fever. I just wanted to take care of you kindly, youā€¦!ā€

Before she could finish her sentence, Li Teng suddenly grunted in pain. He winced, furrowing his brows and closing his eyes.

“What’s wrong?” Ruan Nianchu was shocked, hastily picking up her skirt and pulling it over herself. Bending down to help him, she saw that the wound had darkened again in a large area. It seemed that the movement just now had torn the wound.

Her heart sank, frowning, she helped him lie back on the grass pile, handling him with extreme care. “The wound has reopened, rest well and don’t move around. I won’t bother you anymore.”

Gritting his teeth, Li Teng sat up, leaning against the rough stone wall, his lips turning pale. Glancing sideways, he saw the girl sitting beside him, holding her knees, her head hanging low, looking a little aggrieved.

He pinched his brow and said softly, “I don’t find you annoying.”

Ruan Nianchu pouted, “Oh.”

Li Teng calmly added, “I’m afraid I can’t control myself.”

“ā€¦ā€ Ruan Nianchu raised her eyes and glared at him, puffing out her cheeks, scolding softly, “Just lie down honestly if you’re injured. You’re as white as paper and still thinking all over the place. What can you do now?”

At her words, he tugged at his lips, staring at her with a smile that was not a smile, “What can’t I do?”

Ruan Nianchu knew he was deliberately twisting her words to tease her and was speechless. Standing up with a wave of her hand, she pretended to be relaxed, “Fine, do whatever you want. I’ll go inside and see if there’s any dry grass left to make a fire.”

Just as she turned around, the person behind her casually remarked, “You’re so bold, aren’t you afraid of encountering wild beasts?”

“ā€¦” Ruan Nianchu’s footsteps abruptly halted, turning her head, her heart pounding, she asked him seriously, “Are there really wild beasts here?”

Li Teng’s expression was very indifferent, “What do you think?”

In the wilderness, especially in the mountains, the probability of encountering poisonous snakes and fierce beasts was indeed quite high. Well then. She looked around and swallowed nervously, clearing her throat, “With the rain pouring so heavily, there’s probably no blade of grass that’s safe. Let’s not go look for it.” After saying that, she folded back and sat down obediently.

Li Teng leaned one leg against the stone wall, closed his eyes, and suddenly chuckled.

Ruan Nianchu looked at him, “Are you laughing at me?”

Li Teng didn’t even open his eyes, “Wouldn’t dare.”

She snorted, her gaze unconsciously shifting downward, landing on him. Those taut muscles and tendons were clearly defined, with scars scattered all over, large and small, old and new, possessing a breathtaking beauty.

Ruan Nianchu examined the gunshot wound on his right shoulder, frowned, and said, “You should sleep first. When dawn breaks tomorrow, I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Li Teng opened his eyes to look at her, “It didn’t hit any internal organs or major blood vessels, it’s fine.”

Ruan Nianchu said, “I only know that your wound hasn’t been disinfected or treated with medication. It needs to be handled again at the hospital.”

He smirked, wanting to pass it off casually, “I’m tough, I have strong self-healing abilities.”

She blurted out, “This is not a trivial matter. Can’t you speak with a more serious tone?” Pointing here and there with her fingers, “Look at these wounds of yours, they’re quite frightening. Never mind others, if your mother sees them, she’ll be heartbroken, won’t she?”

Li Teng stared straight at her, raised his eyebrows slightly after a moment, “Only my mother would be heartbroken?”

Ruan Nianchu said, “Of course, your mother would naturally feel heartbroken for her son.”

Li Teng spoke again in a calm tone, “Don’t you feel sorry for your man?”

“ā€¦” Ruan Nianchu was stunned, her face flushing, she bit her lip, picked up a piece of dry grass and threw it at his face, “I’m talking about serious matters with you, very seriously. Can’t you be serious?”

His expression was indifferent, “I’m asking about serious matters too. How am I not serious?”

Ruan Nianchu: “ā€¦”

Li Teng: “I’m asking you a question. Do you feel sorry or not?”

She lowered her head, biting her lip even harder, her face reddening further, murmuring softly, “Of course I feel sorry. If I don’t feel sorry for you, who else would care about your injuries if they’re not family or loved ones?”

Li Teng stared at Ruan Nianchu for a moment, then nodded at her, “Come here.”

She was skeptical, but still got up and walked towards him.

After standing still, she looked down at him and asked, “What are you doing?” Before she could finish speaking, he grabbed her and pulled her forcefully into his arms.

She immediately struggled, saying, “Be careful! Your wound might reopen in a momentā€¦” Before she could finish her sentence, her lips were sealed tightly by his.

Li Teng restrained her, his large palm gripping the back of her head, his eyes slightly closed, kissing her deeply and forcefully, almost as if he was releasing pent-up emotions. Her eyes widened slightly, wanting to say something, but his tongue took advantage and invaded, swallowing her low moans and breaths.

After a while, he released her lips, kissing her forehead and furrowing his brows to calm himself down.

Ruan Nianchu’s eyes were veiled with a thin mist, her eyelashes trembling. The masculine scent emanating from him mixed with a faint smell of blood, it was familiar yet primitive.

Neither of them spoke.

After a moment, she softly called his name, her voice gentle, “Li Teng.”

Li Teng responded, “Hmm.”

She was nervous but serious, “Actually, if you really can’t resist, then go ahead. I promise you, this time I won’t be angry.”

“ā€¦” Li Teng chuckled, rubbing her fuzzy head, his tone soft and low, “As long as you don’t strip naked and crawl into my arms again, I can resist.”

Ruan Nianchu raised her head to look at him, very skeptical, “You don’t want to?”

He fell silent for a moment, “I do.”

“Then why not?”

Li Teng’s face hardened, “There’s no bed in this wilderness. It’s not possible.”

Upon hearing his response, Ruan Nianchu couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Li Teng pinched her chin and lifted it up, furrowing his brows, “What are you laughing at?”

Ruan Nianchu said, “I never realized you were so particular about yourself and this matter.”

“It’s not about being particular.”

“Then what is it about?”

“It’s for you.” Li Teng lowered his gaze, flicking her chin lightly, and said in a deep voice, “I don’t care, but I can’t let my woman suffer. Understand?”

Ruan Nianchu was stunned, her eyes flickering, not knowing what to say for a while.

At this moment, Li Teng lay down on his side, holding her, and hooked his index finger on her cheek, smiling, “We still need to find the way down the mountain tomorrow. You should go to sleep.”

“Okay.” Ruan Nianchu nodded, but just as she closed her eyes, she remembered something and opened them again, staring at him, “Aren’t you going to sleep?”

Li Teng said, “It’s not safe. I have to keep watch.”

She frowned, “ā€¦This place is so secluded, they shouldn’t come after us. You need rest.”

“Washa and Duan Kun are just secondary.” Li Teng remained calm. “There are many wild beasts in the mountains. Someone needs to keep watch.”

Ruan Nianchu quickly said, “Then I’ll keep watch, and you can sleep.”

He propped his head up to look at her for a moment, then suddenly said, “There’s a yellow cat in your neighborhood, about ten kilograms. I’ve seen it several times. When you go back this time, pick a fight with it.”

“ā€¦Okay.” Ruan Nianchu was puzzled. “But why do I need to pick a fight with a cat?”

Li Teng’s expression was blank, “After you fight, you’ll understand a fact.”

“What?”

“You can’t even beat a cat.” Li Teng’s eyes flickered with a fleeting smile as he rubbed her head. “Go to sleep.”

“ā€¦” She was speechless, glancing down only to realize that the neckline of her dress was still open. Her face flushed slightly as she hurriedly buttoned it up.

Li Teng chuckled at the sight. “Weren’t you bold just now? Now you’re feeling shy?”

Ruan Nianchu mumbled, “It was a special circumstance just now.” She paused, then squinted at him, “Hey, you didn’t peek just now, did you?”

Li Teng replied indifferently, “What could I see in the dark?”

“Good.” Ruan Nianchu patted her chest in relief, glad that she wasn’t seen.

He added, “But it’s not like I haven’t seen it before.”

She was suddenly stunned. “You’ve seen it before? When did you see it?”

Li Teng stared at her face, a mix of embarrassment and indignation, raising an eyebrow. There was a hint of interest in his eyes as he whispered in her ear, “Seven years ago, in Cambodia, I saw you bathing. In that wooden tub.”

“ā€¦Seven years ago? In Cambodia?” Ruan Nianchu was stunned, finding it hard to believe. “Li Teng, you actually peeped while I was bathing?”

He neither confirmed nor denied it.

She was furious, her eyes wide with disbelief, wanting to curse at him, but he placed his index finger on her lips, chuckling softly, “Since I’ve seen it anyway, it doesn’t matter if I saw it earlier or later. Go to sleep, or I won’t kiss you.”

Ruan Nianchu was indignant. “Hey, how can you be so bad?”

Li Teng said earnestly, “Being bad just for you.”
