Debugging in Book Series

Chapter 25.2

As Jing Xi said so, Duan Chi’s image flashed across his eyes. At that very moment, it dawned on him that passing up the opportunity to run his fingers through Duan Chi’s velvety fur would be a travesty.

However, he was determined not to reveal this and maintained a nonchalant facade to give them a hard time. Craftily, he waited for the opportune moment and pushed them to the brink of a mental breakdown. Only after each of them had signed a contract to take personal charge of this mission did he suggest the idea of modifying the terms.

The trio narrowed their eyes suspiciously as they questioned Jing Xi’s motives. “What’s your game?”

Jing Xi casually shrugged and replied, “Oh, nothing at all. I mean, if you’re not up for it, no biggie. We can always keep it as it is.”

Once again, the trio was left bereft of speech.

After a series of negotiations, the trio eventually reached a consensus to ease the system restrictions. With a somber expression, they went to make the necessary changes.

Meanwhile, Lue watched the whole commotion on the sidelines with a mischievous smile. Sensing that it had come to an end, he brought over some food and inquired about his well-being.

Lue explained, “Yeah, it’s a name he personally chose. So there’s probably a story behind it, I guess?”

When the incident occurred, he happened to be away from the Administration Bureau. Upon his hurried return, he discovered that Jing Xi had already left.

Nevertheless, he would not let this setback deter him from helping his friend. Hence, he swiftly pulled out a small energy detector and noted, “I’ve been meaning to send this to you for quite some time, but now that you’re here, take this. Since he’s the Divine Lord of the Transmigration Department, there’s a possibility that he might just appear in any of those worlds. So, keep it close during your mission, and who knows? You might just cross paths with him.”

Without further conveyance, the detector was turned into a data stream before fusing seamlessly into Jing Xi’s body. And just as the excitement settled, he wasted no time changing the topic. “Have I ever been in a romantic relationship?”

Just as Lue was about to take a sip of water, the question came so unexpectedly that he almost spat it out, causing a comical moment of coughing and sputtering. “How could you have been in a romantic relationship? And if you were, would you really keep it a secret from me?”

Jing Xi smirked, realizing Lue was right. After all, he was not the type to keep things under wraps, especially not romance.

But then, a sly glint sparkled in Lue’s eyes as he probed, “Wait a minute, something’s not right! Why are you asking me this? Do you have something you’d like to share?”

“The mission happened.” Jing Xi explained with nary a change in his expression, “System had me play matchmaker every single day. Even after complying with its demands, it has the audacity to complain that I’ve no clue about dating. So, I thought I’d seek some advice.”

  Lue doubted, “Really?”

Jing Xi refuted with a hint of exasperation, “What else could it be?”

Caught in a moment of uncertainty, Lue scrutinized him, searching for another reason behind this bizarre conversation. However, time was not on his side. The trio swiftly made the necessary adjustments, ready to send this troublemaker on his way.

Yet, Jing Xi confessed regrettably, “As a matter of fact, I actually feel quite reluctant to leave you all.”

Upon hearing that, the trio exclaimed, “Just leave!”

With that, Jing Xi laid back on the medical pod and closed his eyes.

Surprisingly, the negotiations between the two sides concluded swiftly, with back-and-forth discussions taking no more than half an hour.

Amid the clamor of screams, a faint rustle caught Duan Xiuwen’s attention. He spun around, and to his astonishment, he found his aunt succumbed to unconsciousness in the midst of it all.

From a distance, the bodyguard’s face contorted with concern. Swiftly, he darted towards the person and whisked them away from the haunted house.

Inside these public places, they had cutting-edge medical AI at their disposal. As such, the staff quickly summoned the AI to assess the situation, but to their surprise, the results showed he was absolutely fine.

Duan Xiuwen doubted, “How could this be?”

The staff peered at the screen and declared, “No issues detected.”

In this day and age, where medical AI is known for its unparalleled accuracy, the absence of any detection raised serious concerns among the group. With furrowed brows, they collectively decided to rush him to the hospital for a thorough examination. Yet, even after their meticulous assessment, no health issues were detected.

Duan Xiuwen probed, “Why did he faint if he’s supposedly fine?”

The doctor examined the report but was still unable to provide an answer.

Casting him another glance, Duan Xiuwen pressed on, “When will he wake up?”

The doctor answered, “It’s fair to say that he may wake up at any moment.”

Helplessly, Duan Xiuwen expressed his gratitude to the doctor. As a wave of uncertainty washed over him, he wrestled with the decision of whether to share the news with his uncle. Slowly retracing his steps, he stepped into the room and settled onto a chair, only to be taken aback by what he saw – the person lying there had awakened!

When Jing Xi slowly opened his eyes, he was met with the sight of the male lead sitting by his bed. Feeling touched by his presence, he managed a weak smile and wondered, “Little Bro, it’s been really tough on me this time. Can you let your ears out and let me rub them for a moment?”

Duan Xiuwen stated, “… The doctor said you’re going to be just fine.”

System interrupted, “They belong to the female lead, so why don’t you play with Duan Chi’s ears instead?”

Disregarding its remark, Jing Xi turned to the bodyguard standing nearby.

However, the bodyguard seemed to be well aware of his intentions, as he quickly took a discreet step back. It was adamant that he had been tasked with preventing Jing Xi from caressing their ears and reporting the matter to Duan Xiuwen straight after.

“Did you accidentally spill the beans, or did he deliberately instruct you to let me know?” Jing Xi questioned with a hint of intensity in his voice.

The bodyguard replied, “It was deliberate.”

As the words settled in, Jing Xi fell silent and shook off the weak facade he had put up before getting off the bed.

Concerned, Duan Xiuwen came closer to lend a hand. “How do you feel now?”

  Jing Xi responded, “I’m fine.”

Duan Xiuwen continued, “Then why did you faint?”

Jing Xi guessed, “Low blood sugar, I suppose?”

‘Someone with Class-S genes has low blood sugar?’ Duan Xiuwen stared at him in contemplative silence, unsure of how to evaluate the situation.

Glancing at the door, Jing Xi inquired, “What about the others?”

Duan Xiuwen notified, “They’re still at the haunted house.”

  “Huh?” Jing Xi was perplexed.

With that, Duan Xiuwen began to explain what had occurred.

In the midst of spine-chilling screams, a flicker of movement caught his eye. Coincidentally, he whipped his head around just in time to catch a glimpse of the leader and the rest of the group vanishing around a dark corner. Since they were near the entrance, he and the bodyguard decided to retrace their steps, inadvertently leaving the others inside the haunted house.

For a fleeting moment, Jing Xi could not help but scoff inwardly, ‘How fortunate.’

Amid the cacophony of screams, he cautiously treaded to avoid collisions, yet still managed to bump into something unexpectedly.

Even so, he declared, “Let’s head back, then.”

Duan Xiuwen puzzled, “Head back? After all this?”

Jing Xi stated, “Of course, I’m perfectly fine anyway.”

Translator’s Note:

Heya guys! As you may be aware, I’ve been using the term “Creator” (主神). However, the author has also begun using 主神 for each department. Since there wasn’t much context provided, I treated it as a separate role and translated it as “Divine Lord” (主神).

Now, the author has decided to reveal more details about the “Creator,” who is actually a 主神 of the Transmigration Department. Therefore, I will be changing the term “Creator” to “Divine Lord” from now on.
