Transmigrated into a Heartthrob Novel and Went OOC Chapter 39

 Chapter 39

The man, who was suddenly hit by a snowball, visibly froze in place. He lowered his head and brushed off the snowflakes from his collar after Fang Chaozhou had run far away.

Fang Chaozhou thought that the boy would immediately retaliate, but to his surprise, the boy calmly stood there after brushing off the snow. It made Fang Chaozhou feel somewhat guilty. He walked back and saw snowflakes resting on the boy’s shoulder, so he gently patted them away as a way to make up for it.

The boy glanced at the hand that had landed on his shoulder but didn’t say anything. It was only when the hand was removed that he averted his gaze.

He spread out a mat he had found on the ground, asking the boy to sit, then went to another spot and laid out another mat.

Observing his actions, the boy asked softly, “Senior Brother, why are you laying out two mats?”

Without turning his head, Fang Chaozhou replied, “Because I plan to lie down later. If I only laid out one, it wouldn’t be comfortable.”

The boy didn’t say anything further, and Fang Chaozhou searched through his storage ring but couldn’t find anything interesting. He could only wear his clothes and lie down, his eyes fixed on the outside of the cave, waiting for the snow to stop.

“Young Master, is it still necessary to continue observing this illusion?” the young girl looked at Song Lianyi’s increasingly pale complexion and couldn’t help but ask. She thought there was no need to keep that cultivator trapped anymore, and it would be better to capture him and teach him a lesson.

Song Lianyi gritted her teeth and replied, “No rush. If he can see Xue Danrong in the illusion, he must have ulterior motives towards Xue Danrong. Given enough time, he will reveal his true intentions.”

This illusion had a fascinating aspect to it. As the illusion persisted, the people appearing inside would gradually resemble their real selves more and more. So as time went on, it became increasingly difficult for people to discern the illusion.

Furthermore, the people created by the illusion could even simulate the emotions of the real individuals, which was why in the original story, Zhongli Yueshui almost crossed the line with Xue Danrong due to the illusion.

Song Lianyi wasn’t in a rush to capture Fang Chaozhou. Firstly, she wanted to see if Fang Chaozhou had any strange intentions towards Xue Danrong. Secondly, she was curious about Xue Danrong’s feelings towards Fang Chaozhou.

Inside the illusion, the snow outside the cave showed no signs of stopping, and the sky gradually darkened, causing the light inside the cave to dim as well.

Fang Chaozhou found a night pearl lamp in his storage ring and placed it between him and the boy. After setting it up, he looked at the boy not far away and said, “Junior Martial Brother, don’t you want to rest and lie down?”

Since they entered the cave, the boy had remained seated on the mat.

Upon hearing the voice, the boy turned his head, and the light from the lamp flowed into his phoenix-like eyes. “I’m not tired,” he replied.

“Alright then, I’m feeling a bit sleepy. Junior Martial Brother, I’ll take a nap. If the snow stops, wake me up,” Fang Chaozhou said as he turned his back to the boy, closed his eyes, and drifted off.

He didn’t know how long he had slept before he woke up, feeling something pressing against him.

Fang Chaozhou struggled to shake off the weight on him but couldn’t. He reached out to push it away, but before his hand could touch the object, it was held in place.

It seemed like a hand was gripping his.

Realizing this, Fang Chaozhou opened his eyes, but his mind wasn’t completely clear. So even when he saw that the object pressing on him was Xue Danrong, he didn’t realize that something was wrong. He simply asked, “Junior Martial Brother, has the snow stopped?”

“Not yet,” came the cold voice of the boy. “Second Senior Brother, I’m feeling cold.”

Cold?

Upon hearing these words, Fang Chaozhou wanted to rummage through his storage ring to see if there were any warm items. However, the boy held his hand, preventing him from doing so. Therefore, he had no choice but to try pulling his hand back.

He pulled several times but couldn’t free his hand.

Fang Chaozhou couldn’t help but speak, “Junior Martial Brother, please let go of my hand, I’ll go…”

Before he could finish his sentence, his hand was pressed beside his head. The boy, gripping his hand, looked down at him. Due to the dim lighting in the cave, his phoenix-like eyes appeared even brighter.

Fang Chaozhou glanced at his captured hand, turned his head to ask the boy to stop playing around, but his words couldn’t come out.

Caught off guard, emotions surged passionately like fire.

It felt like even his breath was being taken away by the other person.

Fang Chaozhou’s drowsy brain finally awakened. When the boys’s tongue slithered in, he clenched his teeth and indeed heard the other person inhale. Seizing this opportunity, Fang Chaozhou forcefully pushed the person away.

The pushed-back young boy sat up, his hand gently covering his lips. Blood seeped through his fingers, staining them the color of autumn camellias. His phoenix-like eyes stared intently at Fang Chaozhou, harboring a gaze akin to a hidden beast, penetrating and invasive.

Despite that, his words were soft, almost drowned out by the falling snow outside.

“Does the Second Senior Brother hate me this much?”

Fang Chaozhou sighed as he looked at the bloodied figure. He pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to the boy. “You shouldn’t call me Second Senior Brother. You’re not him.”

The young boy’s eyes flickered upon hearing these words. “Why can’t I understand the words of the Second Senior Brother?”

“While I couldn’t be sure before, I’m certain now that you’re not Xue Danrong. He’s different from you,” Fang Chaozhou said.

The boy heard this and let go of his hand. As soon as he let go, the bloodstains on his hand disappeared, and even his lips were clean, as if nothing had happened.

“What’s different? I think I’ve learned to mimic him quite well. Wasn’t it like this when he kissed you before?” the boy asked.

This remark made Fang Chaozhou’s face blush involuntarily.

Meanwhile, Song Lianyi’s face turned pale outside the incense burner.

What did he hear?

Xue Danrong kissed Fang Chaozhou?

Fang Chaozhou hesitated for a moment before speaking, “It’s not exactly the same, and he has a very pleasant scent.” That scent was addictive to him, combined with Xue Danrong’s face, it was simply irresistible. That’s why he couldn’t muster any resistance when Xue Danrong kissed him in the carriage the last time.

But this time, he could clearly feel his own consciousness, so he pushed the person away without hesitation. Moreover, recalling how he had put snow into the person’s collar earlier and received no retaliation, he became even more certain that the person in front of him wasn’t Xue Danrong.

Once he was certain, the influence of the illusion naturally broke.

Fang Chaozhou remembered being trapped inside Song Lianyi’s incense burner.

The boy, upon hearing this, couldn’t help but raise his sleeve and sniff himself. He looked slightly puzzled and said, “The scent should be the same, shouldn’t it?”

Fang Chaozhou didn’t dwell on this topic any further and simply said, “Now that I’ve seen through it, can you let me go?”

The boy stared at Fang Chaozhou for a while before saying, “I hope you won’t be able to see through it next time.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a gust of wind blew towards Fang Chaozhou, making it impossible for him to open his eyes. When he finally managed to open them, he found himself back at the shop.

As soon as he appeared, Song Lianyi bound him with a silk ribbon.

“Fang Chaozhou, did Xue Danrong kiss you?” Song Lianyi’s gaze was cold.

“No,” Fang Chaozhou answered quickly, but Song Lianyi could see everything that happened in the illusion clearly. How could he tolerate Fang Chaozhou’s sophistry? After sizing him up, Song Lianyi forcefully pulled the ribbon, dragging Fang Chaozhou closer.

“There’s still plenty of time left today, Fang Chaozhou,” he said through gritted teeth.

Second floor of the shop.

Fang Chaozhou tried to move the chair he was sitting on, but failed. He pursed his lips and then looked up at the enchanting woman in front of him. Seeing the hostility in her eyes, he hesitated for a moment before speaking.

“We actually didn’t have much conflict before, did we? Can’t we have a proper conversation? Is that not possible?”

“A proper conversation?” Song Lianyi leaned forward, patting Fang Chaozhou’s cheek with his hand. The gesture was neither light nor heavy, but filled with disdain. “I’ll have a proper conversation with you once I’m in a good mood.”

With that, he got up and opened a nearby box on the table.

He didn’t bring anything valuable on this trip, so he could only make do with these ordinary items.

Song Lianyi rummaged through the box, finally finding something to his satisfaction. Just as he was about to turn around and use it on Fang Chaozhou, he noticed that the chair was empty.

His eyes turned cold, and he quickly cast a spell behind him, but it was too late. The silk ribbon that had been tied to Fang Chaozhou swiftly bound his own body.

After binding Song Lianyi, Fang Chaozhou also placed a silence spell on him. Seeing the fury in Song Lianyi’s eyes, he thought for a moment and helped him onto the chair.

“Standing is tiring, so you might as well sit,” Fang Chaozhou said with a sigh. “Honestly, I didn’t want to bind you, but you always act like this, and I don’t think it’s a good idea, so…”

Fang Chaozhou picked up the item that Song Lianyi had just dropped on the ground.

Song Lianyi’s expression changed when he saw Fang Chaozhou pick up the item.

Although Song Lianyi was twisted, Fang Chaozhou thought she had one good quality: even if she was beaten up outside, she wouldn’t complain to her parents when she got home, unlike that little demon Li Zhu who would run home to tattle.

In the original story, Song Lianyi would relentlessly pursue Xue Danrong and end up beaten half to death, forced to recuperate before quieting down for a while. She would only reappear once she had recovered from his injuries.

Fang Chaozhou realized that he would be staying in the capital for a while, and if Song Lianyi continued to bother him, it would be troublesome. He didn’t mind the trouble for himself, but he was afraid that Song Lianyi’s twisted nature might harm others.

Everyone here was a mortal and couldn’t withstand Song Lianyi’s torment.

As for offending Song Lianyi, he didn’t want to, but he had already offended her unintentionally.

So Fang Chaozhou planned to temporarily appease Song Lianyi and prevent him from causing trouble. However, he didn’t like the idea of beating someone half to death; it was too violent and gruesome. Instead, he set his sights on Song Lianyi’s precious items. He remembered that in the original story, Song Lianyi had some items that could harm without being bloody.

“What is this?” Fang Chaozhou curiously looked at the copper ball in his hand. It was small, about the size of a walnut.

Song Lianyi’s expression visibly tensed when he heard Fang Chaozhou’s words. He even unconsciously swallowed a mouthful of saliva. His gaze remained fixed on the copper ball in Fang Chaozhou’s hand, and as Fang Chaozhou looked at him, his body became tense.

Translator’s note: Please forgive the wrong use of the She pronoun. Song Lianyi is a HE but since he’s identifying as a woman this time, isn’t it better to use a she? I don’t know. I’ll probably just interchange them when I edit, so don’t be surprised. I’m having an identity crisis. LOL.

Don't worry about it. I get it because in the eyes of the servants, he was "she" but for Chaozhou he is indeed a "he". 🤣

Woaah~ he's so at disguising that even we are confused of his gender (^ν^)

I accidentally deleted the previous comment. LOL. Indeed, in the eyes of the servants, he's a she. I had an identity crisis, but he's a he. Really. He has "that." LOL. Yep, very good in it that they keep saying she's very beautiful. Haha.

I think you should just stick with the pronouns the author used. A man can cross-dress or dress as the opposite gender while still identifying as a man. If the author doesn't explicitly use female pronouns for a scene, then I doubt he is being perceived as a "she", and there is no need to translate it as such.

Okay. Thanks for the feedback, will do going forward.
