Rivals of Rebirth Chapter 66

Chapter 66: Mistake

Zheng Jue held Han Jin gently, allowing him to roughly kiss and caress. Over the past few days, he had come to realize something: now that he and Han Jin had reached this point, his attitude toward Han Jin must change.

The current Han Jin was no longer the same as before. He acted fiercely due to his lack of security, needing Zheng Jue’s understanding.

Perhaps sensing the shift in Zheng Jue’s attitude, Han Jin lightly chuckled. “You’re not doing anything. Do you want me to take the initiative?”

They indulged in their recklessness for an afternoon, finally ending their pleasure as the sun set. Han Jin rested against Zheng Jue’s shoulder, his expression somewhat dazed. Meanwhile, Zheng Jue lightly stroked Han Jin’s hair, his face filled with contentment.

The two of them sat in silence for quite a while. The atmosphere was warm and harmonious. Finally, Han Jin spoke up, “Do you have plans this afternoon?”

After a brief pause, Zheng Jue answered, “No, I’m free all day.”

Han Jin chuckled softly. “Good, then I can stay a bit longer.”

Bending down, Zheng Jue gently kissed his lips, a relaxed smile on his face.

“How’s everything at the Han Group?” Zheng Jue looked at Han Jin with curiosity. He truly had no clear understanding of the situation at the Han Group. He knew there had been a significant transformation, but the details were elusive. Han Jin was adept at keeping the company’s secrets secure.

Upon hearing the question, a chill flashed in Han Jin’s eyes, but he quickly masked it with a casual smile. “Don’t worry. At the end of this month, my father will exit the stage. No one will interfere between us anymore.”

Zheng Jue gave Han Jin a slightly surprised look. “Mr. Han failed?” That seemed unlikely. Despite the recent upheaval at the Han Group, there hadn’t been any noticeable chaos.

Han Jin lazily nestled into Zheng Jue’s embrace, his voice low. “Impossible. Of course, my father won’t fail. But he’s had to make a choice, and he chose me. Naturally, he has to step back.”

Observing Han Jin’s demeanor, Zheng Jue inexplicably felt a chill run down his spine. The casual way Han Jin described it was unsettling. It appeared that this Han Jin was truly different from the one before.

In the end, Han Jin left. The Han Group hadn’t reached a point where he could act without constraints. Han Zizhang was still the one in charge. Regardless of Han Jin’s backup plans, he couldn’t afford to let his guard down at this crucial juncture.

After seeing off Han Jin, Zheng Jue continued to address business matters. Given the current situation, there wasn’t much urgency. Both he and Zhou Cheng’an were experienced in their field, and the shopping center had found its direction. It was now a matter of sailing smoothly and negotiating with brands for their entry.

Zhou Cheng’an had a clear advantage in this aspect, with a wider network and more acquaintances. Zheng Jue had learned a lot by following him and had met many people. However, in this relatively harmonious time, an unsettling incident suddenly occurred.

On a day when Zheng Jue was supposed to finish work, he received a last-minute call from Zhou Cheng’an. He was asked to visit a suburban villa. There were developments on his father’s side, and this news startled Zheng Jue. He had become wary of Zhou Chen’s unpredictability; people who didn’t play by the rules were the hardest to deal with.

As Zheng Jue was en route to Zhou Cheng’an’s suburban villa, his car was pursued.

In fact, as Zheng Jue began ascending the mountain road, he sensed that something was amiss. Cars in the outer lane kept approaching his side. Since the incident where Han Jin had kidnapped him, the driver was hyper-alert to such situations. He accelerated, fearing another attempt to intercept them.

However, others were determined, and they wouldn’t let Zheng Jue escape easily. Just as they were about to break free, a car suddenly appeared ahead, blocking their path.

Zheng Jue frowned, his fists clenched. He glanced at the nervous-looking driver and whispered, “Don’t panic. If they want to capture someone, it’ll be me. You’ll be fine.”

As expected, several individuals emerged from the opposing car. They swiftly incapacitated the driver and dragged Zheng Jue out of the car.

With thoughts racing through his mind, Zheng Jue guessed who was behind this. Aside from Zhou Cheng’an’s side, who could be foolish enough to orchestrate this? Zhou Cheng’an was a step too late. If Zhou Chen could enact these actions, it was likely that Zhou Cheng’an’s surroundings weren’t safe either.

The leader of the group guided Zheng Jue into their car and apologized in a low voice, “Mr. Zheng, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”

After speaking, they tied Zheng Jue up with a rope and blindfolded him with a black cloth. Zheng Jue didn’t resist; he understood that while Zhou Chen might be impulsive, he wouldn’t go so far as to kill him. In this unfavorable situation, Zheng Jue decided to bide his time. Even if Zhou Chen intended to do something, finding him was just a matter of time with Han Jin and Zhou Cheng’an around.

With his eyes covered, Zheng Jue had no sense of time. He quietly felt his own pulse, trying to estimate the passage of time. After about an hour, the car finally came to a stop.

Zheng Jue was lifted from his seat, stumbling a few steps. Someone steadied him, and he was pulled and guided into a building. Before he could regain his balance, he was pushed to the ground.

Almost half his body ended up on the floor. Zheng Jue struggled to get up but failed. Someone approached him and removed his blindfold.

In an instant, his vision adjusted, and he squinted before finally regaining his sight. He saw the person before him clearly.

It was Zhou Chen.

Zhou Chen sat arrogantly on a chair, looking down at the partly fallen Zheng Jue with a superior gaze. A hint of disdain and cruelty flickered in his eyes and at the corners of his mouth.

“Tsk tsk, isn’t this the famous Zheng Sheng? How did you end up in this situation?” Zhou Chen’s words carried a hint of sarcasm as he gazed at Zheng Jue.

Zheng Jue maintained a composed expression and struggled to get up from the floor. Ignoring the dirt, he naturally settled himself on the ground. A cold smile played at the corners of his mouth. “Mr. Zhou went through so much trouble to capture me. I doubt it’s just to show off your eloquence.”

Zhou Chen’s face turned pale from being silenced. He shouted, “Zheng Jue! At this point, you dare to speak to me like this!”

“How I speak to someone depends on their character. With someone like you, I feel like it’s a waste of time. Mr. Zhou, let’s not beat around the bush. If you have something to say, say it directly!” Zheng Jue didn’t give an inch in his speech; he maintained his ground.

Zhou Chen was infuriated but didn’t dare to actually harm Zheng Jue. He wanted to intimidate Zheng Jue, make him understand not to oppose him.

“Zheng Jue,” Zhou Chen’s tone became insinuating, “if my memory serves me right, your Zheng Group isn’t doing too well. Zheng Sheng, you invest everywhere, but have you considered what would happen if your capital chain were to break?”

Zheng Jue stared coldly at Zhou Chen. Despite being in a disadvantageous position, he remained resolute, “Mr. Zhou, even if the Zheng Group were to close down, I would never collaborate with a despicable person like you. Abandon any hope of that!”

Zhou Chen’s eyes turned bloodshot with anger. He lashed out with a kick, knocking Zheng Jue over. However, Zheng Jue’s face still held a smirk. “Mr. Zhou, you’ll eventually pay for today’s foolish actions.”

Zheng Jue’s words were like a blade, pushing Zhou Chen’s buttons. He pounced like a cheetah, grabbing Zheng Jue by his collar and aiming to strike him. But at that moment, the tightly bound rope unexpectedly came undone. Zheng Jue stopped Zhou Chen’s fist with one hand and held a thin blade to Zhou Chen’s neck with the other. The entire situation shifted in an instant.

The bodyguards stood in shock, their eyes wide as they witnessed this scene. Zhou Chen stared at Zheng Jue in disbelief, as if he were caught in a trance.

Zheng Jue’s cold gaze swept the surroundings, and he said in a deep voice, “Have them all leave! Mr. Zhou, the matters between us should be resolved between just the two of us.”

Zhou Chen’s lips trembled, “You… everyone, leave. Zheng Jue, don’t be impulsive. I’ll have them arrange a car to take you away.”

Zheng Jue let out a cold chuckle. “Why would I be impulsive, Mr. Zhou? Since you invited me here today, we should have a proper conversation. I’m not in a hurry to leave.”

Zhou Chen was terrified by Zheng Jue’s words, fearing that Zheng Jue might go mad and kill him on the spot. He had no choice but to force a smile and say, “Zheng Sheng, I was wrong today. I shouldn’t have treated you like this. Please let me go, for the sake of Cheng’an’s face.”

Zheng Jue reached out and patted Zhou Chen’s obsequious face, mockingly saying, “Mr. Zhou, weren’t you pretty fierce just now? Why are you acting cowardly now?”

Zhou Chen’s smile became somewhat strained. After struggling for a while, he said, “I was wrong. I was wrong. For Cheng’an’s sake, please spare me.”

Before Zheng Jue could respond, a familiar voice suddenly sounded from outside the door.

“I didn’t realize my reputation had become so great that I could use it to shield myself from a blade.”

Zheng Jue smiled faintly upon hearing the voice. He glanced at his watch—exactly two hours. These people were quite efficient.

Author’s Note: There’s a feeling that my new story will be extremely angsty. Hahaha, I just checked the historical romance channel, and my theme is basically the trembling-in-cold kind. I’m really courting trouble, huh _(:з」∠)_

P.S. This chapter probably won’t be torturous anymore. After resolving the previous subplot, it should be almost finished. For sweetness, you’ll have to wait for the extras. Honestly, I’m not great at writing romantic scenes. I’ll improve little by little. Hopefully, the next chapter will be better. I wrote three chapters for the Duke story, and it felt good. After finishing this chapter, it’s probably time to start that one…
