Married to the Male Lead’s Hidden Rich Brother

Chapter 70: Extra 4: Yan Miao’s Growth 3

Qingtian knew that Yan Miao couldn’t see her, but she still felt that Yan Miao’s words were meant for her.

“Huh? You’re just doing it because you want to keep your promise?” The girl seemed stunned, as if she had just been doused with cold water.

“Fool, I wouldn’t even make this promise to someone I didn’t like,” Yan Miao’s voice was so pleasant.

Qingtian realized that from the time they started high school together until now, three years had passed, and Yan Miao had never spoken a word to her.

Later, Qingtian worked hard to study, and her college entrance exam scores were excellent. She enrolled in the same university as Yan Miao, while Yan Miao’s well-known girlfriend failed to get in.

Qingtian felt triumphant; how could someone with poor grades like her keep up with Yan Miao?

From then on, Qingtian was certain that her life would be different from Yan Miao’s when she stepped into the university campus.

During the summer vacation, Yan Miao, who had suffered a major setback in life, soon understood what his father meant.

Their harmless prank was just that because it didn’t cause any harm. Or you could say that this prank initially had no significant malice; it was just curiosity and ignorance between naive kids.

“A harmless joke.”

Firstly, it was harmless.

You could choose to retaliate, to strike back. Or you could choose not to care, to focus on what needs to be done when school starts, and you could make that choice yourself.

Yan Wei told Yan Miao this when he dropped him off at the school gate, and Yan Miao nodded before getting out of the car.

“Can I still go to the company in the future?” Yan Miao turned back and asked Yan Wei before leaving.

Yan Wei smiled and said, “Of course, you can. In fact, you can start doing something within your capabilities right now, like managing your allowance or making investments. I had already started pooling funds with others when I was in high school, and you can do the same.”

Yan Miao nodded, “I understand. I know what to do now.”

Yan Miao’s choice wasn’t forgiveness, but it wasn’t revenge either.

It was just a harmless joke, but it was still deception. Yan Miao no longer had any interaction with Qingtian. Once, apart from studying, he only practiced martial arts. Now, in addition to studying, he worked and invested.

So, sometimes he needed to take leave, but his life was becoming more exciting, even though he had never really integrated into high school life.

The change came in the second-year of high school. On his way home from school, a girl suddenly jumped out from around the corner and shouted at him, “I like you.”

From then on, he had a little tail following him.

Advertisements

This little tail was quite sticky; she followed him around school every day.

But Yan Miao didn’t want to pay much attention to her. He had experienced heartbreak.

Hmph!

And so, this little tail followed him for a year.

As this year’s college entrance exams approached, Yan Miao wanted her to give up, so he told her, “If you participate in a 5000-meter race and can make it to the finish line, I’ll be your boyfriend.”

The little tail was very excited and said, “Okay.”

Actually, Yan Miao knew that her physical fitness wasn’t good. He had heard that she had a bit of asthma, and she couldn’t even run 800 meters, let alone 5000 meters.

During the sports day, when he saw the little tail, Yan Miao was completely stunned. How could an asthmatic run any distance?

Seeing the little tail panting after running just 400 meters, Yan Miao was about to approach her when a male classmate from her class ran out. For some reason, Yan Miao felt a bit uncomfortable in his heart and went up to pick up the little tail.

The little tail was breathing heavily on his back, and her breath tickled his ear, making him feel itchy.

Neither of them spoke. As they crossed the noisy sports field, they seemed to enter their own world. The loud cheers and shouts from the spectators felt distant, and there was a halo around them.

The little tail was very light, and carrying her on his back felt weightless. It was like carrying a magical feather that kept itching at his heart.

There was no doctor in the infirmary; they were probably slacking off again.

Yan Miao placed the little tail on the bed, and he saw her blushing shyly, lying on the bed with teary eyes, looking at him.

Yan Miao felt his heart soften and sat down across from her, asking, “What’s the point of registering if you can’t run 5000 meters?”

The little tail blinked and said, “You said if I could run 5000 meters, you would be my boyfriend.”

Yan Miao sighed and explained, “What’s the use of agreeing now? We’re about to take the college entrance exams, and once we go to college, our lives will probably be different.”

Of course, the little tail had shown impressive perseverance by following him for a whole year. Otherwise, why call her a little tail?

She wasn’t persuaded by Yan Miao’s words. She just said with a hint of grievance, “But, but… I’ll try harder next time. I’m sure I can catch up to you!”

So, in the end, Yan Miao was the one who changed his mind.

What did it matter? After all, they were in their final year of high school, and they were about to take the college entrance exams. Going out with a girlfriend wasn’t strange, right?

Yan Miao thought things through this way and came to terms with it. He smiled, shook his head, and sighed, “You don’t have to chase me.”

“Huh?” The little tail wore a bitter expression, and her face, which was naturally small, looked even smaller when she frowned. She said, “Do you hate me? Yan Miao, I like you. Since I like you, let me chase you! I’ll tell you, I…”

Listening to the little tail’s explanation, Yan Miao knew she had misunderstood, but he didn’t rush to explain. He only rose from his seat when the little tail remained silent, sat beside her, and gently placed his hand on her forehead. He then looked at her with a slight tilt of his head and said, “What I meant was that you are my girlfriend. You don’t need to chase after me. Just be by my side.”

“Huh?” The little tail seemed not to have understood at first, and she hesitated for a moment before sitting up and exclaiming, “You agreed, Yan Miao! You agreed to be my boyfriend?”

“Of course, I will keep the promise I made,” Yan Miao said with a smile.

Hearing Yan Miao laugh and make this declaration, the little tail was dumbfounded. She questioned Yan Miao with heartache, “Wait, you agreed just because you wanted to keep your promise?”

Yan Miao laughed again, reached out, and ruffled her head with his hand. Then, using his voice that the little tail liked very much, he said, “Silly, I wouldn’t even make this promise to someone I don’t like.”

The promise was made because, in truth, I already liked you.

From that point on, the two of them were together. Yan Miao tutored Little Tail, and Little Tail made him happy.

The little tail’s last name was Meng, and her full name was Meng Xueli.

Xueli came from an average family. She had a rare opportunity to shine in the middle school entrance exam and got into the prestigious high school.

Unfortunately, she didn’t manage to make a comeback once she got to the prestigious high school, but she did manage to catch herself a golden turtle husband-to-be.

With Yan Miao’s help, Xueli still didn’t get into Yan Miao’s university. Xueli, however, persevered and applied to the university closest to him.

Then, with a triumphant look, she said to Yan Miao, “See, I told you I could catch up!”

Yan Miao looked at her acceptance letter, feeling both amused and exasperated, and said, “Couldn’t you have chosen a major you like?”

Xueli looked puzzled. “I don’t know what major I like.”

Yan Miao shook his head but didn’t say anything more.

Yan Miao became even busier in college, and Xueli didn’t know what he was so busy with, but she never made a fuss about it.

Although they attended different universities, the distance between them wasn’t great – only a three-stop bus ride away.

In his freshman year, Yan Miao applied for a special pass and bought a house in between their universities.

When Xueli went to see their new home with him, her face was filled with astonishment.

“We’ll live here from now on.”

“This place is really beautiful. Is the rent expensive?” Xueli looked around, taking in the luxurious decoration and stylish interior design.

“It’s alright. I bought it, so there’s no need to worry about rent.”

Xueli made a surprised sound and turned to him, asking, “You bought it?”

Yan Miao nodded, and Xueli turned to look at the whole house again. She then asked, “Did your dad buy it for you?”

Yan Miao shook his head, squinted as he looked around the house, and said, “I earned the money myself.”

He understood his father’s words – having money of his own gave him the right to have a say. It also allowed him to provide the best life possible for the person he liked.

So, as soon as college started, they began living together.

Yan Miao continued to wear his usual cold expression, coming and going from the campus every day. But he would also go to the neighboring school to deliver medicine, food, and flowers to his girlfriend.

Meng Xueli was a celebrity in her own school because she had a wealthy and caring boyfriend.

After graduating from college, Yan Miao and Xueli got married without much fanfare. Yan Miao simply arranged a wedding that was exclusively for Xueli.

At 25 years old, Yan Miao, as a young and successful entrepreneur, appeared on television, in magazines, and on social media, quickly becoming a nationally recognized “ideal husband.”

He had long forgotten his first love, Qingtian, and was unaware that this first love had been observing him since high school.

Even now, as she watched interviews with him on television, read about him in magazines, and saw him online, Qingtian regretted it so much that she felt like she was going to bleed to death.

Did she regret it?

Of course, she did. Her life now involved taking care of her child day and night at home, turning her into a yellow-faced woman..

Meanwhile, photos of Yan Miao’s wife, a youthful, charming, and adorable woman, were taken by paparazzi. Their child was lively and innocent, and the whole family held hands while strolling.

As for Qingtian, her energy had long been depleted, and she didn’t even know which brands they were shopping for.

Feeding her child, she couldn’t help but feel the vast gap in her life. She thought that surely she had a nanny to help take care of her child, surely she didn’t have to feed her child herself, surely she didn’t suffer from insomnia. She probably just went shopping every day, took care of her beauty, and went to sleep like a salted fish.

All of this, which should have been hers, she had pushed away with her own hands.

Qingtian’s regrets were unknown to Yan Miao, and he had no interest in knowing them.

He parked his car on the side of the road, waved to his wife and child as they came out of the store, and then drove them home, a happy family.

Sansukini: Somebody actually rated this novel really low because of the ending of this fanwai. It’s really tiring to take care of children, and it will make you look haggard, especially if you don’t have a good mindset and some outside help. You can usually take a breather and be more carefree when they turn 5 or so because they will start school and you will have more time for yourself. Also ladies, don’t lose yourself just because you have to take care of your children. Have some you time, take care of yourself.

This novel is ending soon and I will be translating a new one but I can’t make up my mind what to translate next. Please help me choose.

Casting Nets to Catch a Husband

Liu Yu, with her exquisite beauty, was sold into a brothel by her heartless parents in her previous life and died on the night she left the pavilion in the most luxurious brothel in Yangzhou City.

When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the year she was fifteen, just one month before being sold to the matchmaker by her parents.

With her rebirth, there was one urgent matter at hand.
Within a month, she had to find a good husband for herself, escape from the Liu family, and avoid the fate of being sold in her previous life.

She took all the money she could spare, knocked on the door of the matchmaker’s house in Changfeng Town. And as soon as she left the matchmaker’s house, she met a young man. The matchmaker whispered to her, “Lu Chengxiao, the third son of the Lu family, the owner of the Lu Feng Cloth Shop.”

Liu Yu understood; he was her third target.

Recently, Lu Chengxiao had encountered a beautiful woman several times and admired her. He was thinking it was a match destined for marriage.

It wasn’t until one day when they met in the mountains, the beautiful woman twisted her foot and couldn’t move so he carried her all the way.

When he returned to deliver the medicine, he saw the beautiful woman walking lightly, with no sign of a twisted foot. The heat behind his ears receded, and his eyes grew colder. He turned and went back to Changfeng Town.

Several days later, the beautiful woman shyly handed him a purse, thanking him for his help.

Lu Chengxiao sneered, “Thanking me for helping? That day, I turned back and saw the lady walking normally. Why would I need to help?”

“I can’t accept this purse. If we privately exchange gifts, it might be hard to explain later. It’s better for the lady to keep her dignity.”

Alright, this one couldn’t work. Liu Yu took back the purse, curtsied, and walked away…

Lu Chengxiao thought it was a decisive rejection, until several days later, he saw Liu Yu drop an embroidered handkerchief in front of the bookshop where the young man, Chen Sheng, worked. The gentleman picked up the scented handkerchief, and the beautiful woman blushed and thanked him. What a beautiful encounter.

Lu Chengxiao: “…”

A wave of frustration welled up in his chest, and he clenched his teeth as he tossed and turned in his dreams.

Until later, when he saw Liu Yu about to stage a falling-into-the-water scene, Lu Chengxiao panicked. He jumped into the river before Chen Sheng, pulled her ashore, held her slender waist, and couldn’t help but feel both angry and pained. He didn’t even want to ask more questions. He just held her in his arms and almost begged, “Don’t you want a good marriage? I’ll marry you!”

【This is a story that begins with scheming, falls into love, with a heart full of sincerity, and ends up in a marriage. It is also a story of two major businesses rising, with elements of urban and farming life.]

I’ll be translating both of them, but Casting Nets will be translated first.

Awww, I liked this little side story of Yan Miao – but a little shocked at living together during college… QiaoQiao and Yan Wei were ok with that?? And yes… caring for kids can suck the life out of you 😂

  3. bambykkot

Yes, and children duties doesn’t magically disappear after they’re 18 either, it’s a lifelong commitment that can suck out the life of anyone

  4. chronos5884

I agree with Chisato. Sometimes the best revenge is to live well. I appreciate how things went and how Yan Miao went about things. I’m glad he didn’t string this girl along just to make her quit, though it’s a little hard to say whether he’d known his intentions before this event or not, but fortunately he at least figured it out and didn’t let her down. I also now understand what Yan Wei meant. I interpreted it differently, but now I see. It’s because the vantage point has changed, so what looked like an insurmountable mountain turned out to simply be a small boulder in the vast world he can now see. As for child-rearing… yeah, it’s not easy. Imagine raising kittens or puppies who need feedings every 2 hours day and night for weeks, and then realize humans develop even slower. It’s exhausting and stressful, and then there’s finances, health and medical care, education and all these anxieties that can build up for a parent. It can be extremely rough on people, and that’s without adding on the possibility of having a rough pregnancy, or post-partum depression or mental illness, or a sickly child, etc. Parenting and being a parent really isn’t easy.
