I Eat My Own Jealousy chapter 22

Chapter 22

After finishing breakfast, Zong Ye had the surveillance footage from the garden brought in by the butler. He wanted to find out where the little furball had come from. Seeing the little furball slip out of Zong Ye’s spacecraft, Zong Ming said, “I told you it wasn’t me who brought it back.”

Zong Ye furrowed his brows in confusion. How did this little furball end up in his spacecraft?

Just as he was pondering, his wrist communicator rang. It was Jian Ning calling. He walked to the side to answer.

“Wait a moment.” Zong Ye brought the communicator close to the little furball, which was currently tearing at Zong Ming’s sleeve.

“Tuan Tuan?” Jian Ning softly called through the communicator. The little furball stopped and turned its head toward the communicator. “Ao, ao,” it let out a cry.

Jian Ning was relieved. It was Tuan Tuan’s voice. He reassured him, “Don’t worry, I’ll come to pick you up right away.”

Zong Ye put away the communicator and asked Jian Ning, “Did you leave this little pup in my spacecraft?”

Jian Ning replied, “Yes. Can you send me the address? I’ll come to pick him up. If it’s not convenient, you can also send him to the academy.”

Zong Ye had something to discuss with him, but now that there was an obvious pup resembling the Zong family’s breed suddenly appearing, he said, “I’ll send someone to pick you up.”

After the call ended, Jian Ning informed Terry he was going to pick up Tuan Tuan. He then headed to the bathroom to freshen up and change his clothes, preparing to go out and pick up Tuan Tuan. However, just after changing his clothes, the communicator rang again. It was Professor Moor calling.

“Jian Ning, come to the lab quickly.” Professor Moor’s voice sounded urgent. It seemed that something had happened in the lab.

Jian Ning hurriedly rushed to the lab, worried that the person Zong Ye sent might not be able to find him. He sent a message to Zong Ye, asking him to send the address, as he would pick up Tuan Tuan himself after dealing with the matters in the lab.

Inside the Zong family villa, Zong Ye was reading military-related documents on the sofa while Tuan Tuan jumped around him. Sometimes, it chased after the cleaning robot, and other times, it rolled around on the carpet, occasionally rubbing against Zong Ye’s feet and playfully gnawing at his pants. Zong Ye shifted his gaze from the holographic screen to the little furball by his feet, furrowing his brows. He called the butler and said, “Take him outside.”

Abel, the butler, carried Tuan Tuan affectionately and took him to play in the garden outside.

Zong Ye finished reading the data and closed the holographic screen. He went out to the garden and watched the little furball play in the distance on the grass.

Zong Ming came out of the house and stood beside Zong Ye, also looking at the little furball in the distance. He asked, “When will his family come to pick him up?”

Zong Ye replied, “I don’t know. They said they had some matters to handle before coming.”

“Just who was it on the communicator just now, and what’s your relationship with them?” Zong Ming playfully bumped his arm, curious for gossip.

Zong Ye glanced at him and asked, “Aren’t you supposed to be at the Science Academy today?”

Zong Ming grinned, “I took the day off. If we don’t find out where this little pup came from, I can’t focus on work. Family matters are important.”

“Identify him then. This little guy clearly looks like our Zong family breed. If it’s not mine, it can only be yours.” Zong Ye crossed his arms, saying it seriously.

Zong Ye’s gaze darkened, and he pursed his lips without saying a word. He turned and walked back to the living room.

Noon came, but Jian Ning still hadn’t arrived. He took the time to send a message to Zong Ye, saying that he would come to pick up Tuan Tuan later, as he was dealing with something in the lab.

During lunch, Abel, the butler, specially prepared meat for Tuan Tuan. After filling his belly, Tuan Tuan continued to play around in the living room, chasing after the electronic puppy given to him by the butler. Zong Ye watched with speechlessness; this little furball was so energetic. Wasn’t he tired at all?

“I’ll go back to my room.” After sitting in the living room for a while, Zong Ye couldn’t bear Tuan Tuan constantly climbing onto the sofa and onto his legs. He stood up and went upstairs.

After reading for a while, he set the room’s temperature and lighting, then lay down on the bed to take a nap. As he fell asleep, the door to his room was quietly pushed open. A small, snow-white furball wagging its tail quietly came in, lightly climbed onto the small chair beside the bed, and then jumped onto the bed.

Abel, the butler, brought the little furball upstairs to the guest room for a nap. However, without noticing, the little furball disappeared. He searched the corridor and saw that Zong Ye’s room door was slightly ajar. He walked over, pushed the door open, and saw Zong Ye lying flat on the bed with his eyes closed, sound asleep. Tuan Tuan was curled up on Zong Ye’s stomach, also fast asleep.

Abel, the butler, did not make a sound, gently closing the door.

Zong Ye woke up and felt a warm, heavy mass on his stomach. He lowered his head and saw Tuan Tuan, couldn’t help but feel speechless. When did this little furball come in? He really didn’t treat himself as an outsider, daring enough to sleep on his stomach.

He reached out and lifted the little furball by its scruff and placed it on the bed. Tuan Tuan sleepily opened his eyes, stood up with his short legs, and wobbled over to Zong Ye’s side, then snuggled up to him and fell back asleep.

Zong Ye stared at the sleeping Tuan Tuan for a moment, then opened a drawer and took out a pair of scissors to cut a strand of Tuan Tuan’s fur. He then got off the bed and entered the adjacent room.

The adjacent room was his medical room, which, apart from the medical pod, also housed a medical robot. Since everyone in the family came from a military background and had always been in good health, the medical robot usually remained in sleep mode.

Zong Ye awakened the medical robot and transformed into his wolf form, pulling out one of his own hairs. He then turned back into his human form, dressed himself, and placed Tuan Tuan and his hair inside the medical robot, giving the command for a genetic relationship analysis.

It would take fifteen minutes to get the results. Zong Ye looked at the time, and suddenly, the door was pushed open from the outside. Abel, the butler, stood at the doorway and said, “Young Master, there’s a young guest who has come to pick up Tuan Tuan.”

Zong Ye nodded and said, “Let him wait in the living room for a while.”

Abel, the butler, glanced at the robot still working and understood. He closed the door without a word.

In Professor Moor’s laboratory, there had been a thief. Several pots of rare cultivated plants were stolen, and even the newly sprouted Mist Fruits were not spared. The laboratory was in a mess, and the Academy’s security team spent a long time investigating and collecting clues before finally cleaning up the lab. Only then did Jian Ning have the time to come and pick up Tuan Tuan.

Following the housemaid into the living room, he was welcomed by an elegant, white-haired old man with a gentle demeanor. The old man smiled and said, “Young Master just woke up. Please have a seat in the living room for a while.”

With that, he motioned for Jian Ning to sit on the sofa and had the maid bring him some coffee.

“Thank you.” Jian Ning sat down on the central sofa in the living room and took a sip of coffee, hearing footsteps coming from upstairs. He looked up and saw that it wasn’t Zong Ye coming down but the man who had replaced Zong Ye to deliver the speech at the Gaiya Military Academy’s opening day.

“This is my second young master,” Abel, the butler, introduced him from the side.

Zong Ming sat across from Jian Ning and asked with a smile, “You’re here to pick up that little furball?”

He was probably referring to Tuan Tuan. Jian Ning nodded and said, “Yes, I accidentally left him on Marshal’s spacecraft yesterday.”

Zong Ming sized him up and curiously asked, “What’s your relationship with that little furball, and what’s your relationship with my brother?”

Why was he asking like this? Could he have figured out Tuan Tuan’s relationship with Zong Ye? Jian Ning wondered, pursing his lips.

Noticing his hesitation, Abel, the butler, kindly interjected, “Young Master, let’s not be impolite. This guest is Young Master’s friend.”

As he spoke, footsteps came from upstairs again, and Zong Ye walked down.

“Second Young Master, let’s not disturb the Young Master and this young guest. Let’s go outside,” Abel, the butler, suggested to let them talk alone. He then had the servants bring coffee and led Zong Ming and the servants out of the room.

“Where’s Tuan Tuan?” Jian Ning asked anxiously when he didn’t see Tuan Tuan.

“He’s sleeping upstairs,” Zong Ye replied as he sat opposite Jian Ning, asking the same question Zong Ming did, “What’s your relationship with him?”

When Zong Ye left Blue Star, neither of them knew about Tuan Tuan’s existence. Since Zong Ye acted like he didn’t know him the last time they met at the hotel, Jian Ning had decided not to tell him about Tuan Tuan. Therefore, he pursed his lips, unhappy, and said, “Why should I tell you? It has nothing to do with you. I’ll have someone wake him up, and I’ll take him back.”

“Nothing to do with me?” Zong Ye’s expression darkened. He untied the communication device on his wrist and brought it to Jian Ning, showing him the authentication result that the medical robot had just sent him.

Jian Ning picked it up and looked at it, realizing that he couldn’t hide it any longer. Annoyed, he said, “Yes, he’s your son and my son.”

Zong Ye had already anticipated this, but he still found it hard to believe that while his main personality was asleep due to an injury, his second personality had managed to create a family outside.

Ever since Zong Ye acted like he didn’t know him, Jian Ning knew that Zong Ye probably wouldn’t be happy to find out that they had a son together. But seeing Zong Ye’s distressed expression now, he felt extremely uncomfortable. He clenched his fingers and lowered his gaze, saying, “Although Tuan Tuan’s birth is related to you, I won’t force you to be his father. You don’t need to worry. Let someone bring him down, and we’ll leave now and won’t bother you again.”

Perhaps hearing his father’s voice upstairs, Tuan Tuan ran down. Jian Ning went over to pick him up and turned to leave without looking back.

“Wait, about what happened on Blue Star…” Zong Ye got up and stopped Jian Ning, his brow furrowed in frustration. He knew nothing about what happened on Blue Star, and if he had to explain, he would have to reveal the truth.

Seeing him stop midway, Jian Ning bit his lip and said, “Don’t worry, I know you don’t want others to know about what happened on Blue Star. I won’t tell anyone.”

After saying that, he left with Tuan Tuan without looking back.

Zong Ming was standing outside, holding Abel’s hand as if wanting to say hello. But when he saw Jian Ning carrying Tuan Tuan without looking at him, he awkwardly put his hand down.

“It’s not easy to get a taxi here. I’ll have someone drive you back,” Abel, the butler, followed Jian Ning, politely offering assistance.
