Hold On, You’re Something Else

Chapter 46.2

Meanwhile, since he was being suppressed by the bodyguards beside him, Wu Fuyu could only watch in frustration as Rong Jing left. He had just heard the announcement on the loudspeaker mentioning a ‘Mr. Gu’ and ‘Mr. Rong’.

Who does that Mr. Rong represent? This surname was quite a rare one.

It’s obviously Rong Jing, right?!

At this very moment, his bodyguards received a text message from the matchmaking center, stating that the Omega that was supposed to have a meet up with their young master had successfully paired with someone else. They also thanked him for their intention to match. As an apology, they had prepared some credit points as a gift, which could be claimed at the matchmaking center during the specified time.

It felt like a consolation prize after participating in an event, and it was quite lame and insulting.

Wu Fuyu snorted. That Omega had no taste. That arrogant idiot picked someone else before he could even show up. But whatever, he knew there were a lot of Omegas lining up for him, waiting for him to notice them. Who would care about this sht?

Wu Fuyu signaled for his bodyguards to remove their masks and to take out the cloth from his mouth. After getting approval from Ji Jong Jie, the bodyguards finally released him.

Wu Fuyu stared at them sternly, “You just wait. I hold grudges quite deeply.”

The gazes of Rong Jing and Gu Xi met for a moment, and then they separated like something shocked them, each looking out of the window.

Silence fell once more.

This time, even Zhou You didn’t dare to casually ask questions.

Rong Jing and Gu Xi remained very quiet, but the silence now carried a different feeling than the one before.

Rong Jing was a bit unsure of how to handle the current atmosphere, so he sought something to do to distract himself.

He began researching how the pheromones of an Alpha-Omega pair could communicate better to allow the Omega by their side to safely pass through their heat. Besides temporary marking, there had to be other methods, perhaps not as intense.

Soon, he found search results.

For example, touching.

Rong Jing’s gaze involuntarily drifted to their knees that had just brushed against each other, his heart slightly fluttering. He guiltily shifted his own knees in the opposite direction.

Another example was handshakes, and hugs…

Rong Jing’s eyelids trembled. He looked down at the next search results: kissing, preferably passionate kissing, with french kissing being the best.

Related articles: permeating one’s breath through the other, constantly imbued with each other’s scent.

Temporary marking.

If combined with kisses and hugs, the results would be even more effective.

And then there’s one more step…

That particular word was hard to say.

Rong Jing’s face turned beet red, and his phone clattered to the ground with a snap. He now resembled a rusty pendulum and moved like a robot as he stared at Gu Xi’s exquisite face.

That… okay, let’s not think about that. This cursed w*kipedia, damn you!

Gu Xi looked indifferently at the receding scenery and vehicles, one hand slowly touching the location of his gland.

When is my heat coming?

It had just ended, and given the unpredictability of his heat, it could come again in just a few days or for as long as… maybe one or two years?

Gu Xi’s heart continued to sink. The excitement from having a successful match was instantly crushed by reality, like a wilted eggplant. Gu Xi realized he was becoming more and more greedy. At first, he just wanted to observe from afar, so why was his desire spiraling out of control?

What did he want?

Seeing Rong Jing’s phone drop to the car’s carpet, Gu Xi bent down to pick it up, making their fingers touch. They locked eyes again, and Gu Xi calmly said, “You go pick it up.”

Rong Jing nodded.

He could feel that he couldn’t stay as relaxed as he used to be when he’s with Gu Xi.

The two of them arrived at Gu Xi’s house with this kind of atmosphere circling around them.

Since the day when Xu Shengteng barged in, Gu Xi hadn’t returned to this house. His neighbor, Fang Jue Lian happened to open his door when he and Rong Jing arrived. He was still wearing the same outfit he was wearing back at the matching center, looking like he had just returned.

When he saw Gu Xi, he smiled gently, as if he naturally had a filter on.

Fang Jue Lian’s voice carried ecstasy, surprised with his sudden arrival after such a long time of separation, “Finally, you’re back! You haven’t been home for days! I saw what happened on your Weibo account. How are you doing? Are you okay? I’ve been trying to get in touch with you.”

When he realized that there was a tall man standing next to Gu Xi, he faltered, “This is…”

Gu Xi didn’t really want to talk much to Fang Jue Lian, “My friend.”

He grabbed Rong Jing’s wrist as he spoke and slammed the security door shut with a bang. Fang Jue Lian looked at the ‘place’ that Gu Xi had grabbed, his eyes like a snake, lightly sweeping his gaze over the two.

His smile faded quickly.

He could feel that Gu Xi’s attitude towards him had become much colder.

They had been neighbors for years, him and Gu Xi, so he naturally had the lowdown on Gu Xi’s simple life—work, work, and more work.

Gu Xi wasn’t one to bring Alphas home, so what was up this time?

Who even was this Alpha? Gu Xi had a reputation for being as hard to approach as it gets.

On the day that bad incident happened, Gu Xi left his house in a hurry, bringing only the important documents with him. Cops showed up for a chat, but in his rush, things got chucked around, leaving the whole place looking like a tornado had hit it.

Rong Jing looked around, but he played it cool and ignored the current state of the room.

“It’s a bit messy, just find a place to sit for now.”

Rong Jing nodded, walked around the house, scouting for points that could somehow jog his memory.

Gu Xi pulled out a suitcase, unpacking clothes as Rong Jing’s eyes caught a portrait oil painting in the living room—it was Gu Xi in his younger days, all smiles with sunflowers in the background.

“This painting…”

Gu Xi shrugged, “Painted by the guy you just met.” It was from a few years ago, when he had just moved into this house, and that person had given it as a housewarming gift.

Seeing Rong Jing’s curious gaze, Gu Xi added, “Don’t let his looks fool you, he’s not as clean as he seems.”

Rong Jing was just also about to warn him about Fang Jue Lian, but he didn’t expect him to beat him to it, as if he already knew the man’s real character.

Rong Jing was unaware that, in the original story, Gu Xi’s mind-reading ability never came into play.

For a long time, he had been kept in the dark, thinking that Fang Jue Lian was a decent guy. And now, has he been blindsided by him again?

Rong Jing stared at the painting, with its brushstrokes delicate and its lighting soft. It was clearly the work of a skilled oil painter. However, he couldn’t help but feel a subtle headache when he looked at this oil painting.

Wait… a headache?

He glanced at it again, and every time his head throb, it meant the will of this world didn’t want him to remember something important.

The key to those suppressed memories was the oil painting!

Rong Jing: “Can we take it down and have a closer look?”

Gu Xi, though puzzled, didn’t refuse Rong Jing’s request. They took down the painting, and Rong Jing examined both sides of it. His attention was suddenly drawn to Gu Xi’s eyes in the oil painting.

Rong Jing touched it, and indeed found a thin layer of film on it. After tearing it off, both of them were stunned.

It was a camera.

Someone was watching Gu Xi at all times. Without a doubt, the one monitoring him was the person who gave him the painting.

Gu Xi took a sharp breath. Rong Jing had just let the sunlight fall on him, yet here he was again, feeling like there were hands around him, constantly pulling him down the abyss.

“Since we found one, there could be another one,” Rong Jing said.

He called Zhou You, asking him to bring relevant personnel from the company’s IT Department. As the professionals arrived, Gu Xi sat on the sofa, holding the hot tea Rong Jing gave him, lost in thought.

Rong Jing, on the other hand, had the technicians search for hidden cameras in the room. The search revealed 12 in the living room, 15 in the bedroom, and two on the balcony.

It was an invasion to a crazy extent, leaving no space untouched.

“Is there a camera in the bathroom?” Gu Xi abruptly stood up, and because it was too sudden, he spilled hot tea on his hand.

Rong Jing furrowed his brow, took the hot tea and placed it aside. Before Gu Xi could react, he took him into the bathroom and turned on the cold water.

The cold water flowed over the reddened skin. Gu Xi’s skin was too fair, and redness was especially pronounced.

“Does it hurt?” Rong Jing softly inquired, as if afraid that a louder voice would startle him.

Gu Xi asked, in a daze, “Have I been seen… naked?”

He looked at Rong Jing and suddenly felt dirty, so dirty to the point that he thought nothing could ever make him clean again.

Why did Rong Jing have to find out?!

Rong Jing just agreed to match with me, and was even willing to temporarily mark me during my heat. For so long, I’ve been wanting to be with someone like him…

He was someone he had cherished so carefully, kept hidden in the palm of his hand, and secretly held at the tip of his heart. He never wanted Rong Jing to know about the existence of those scums, and yet…

How he wished he could be pure, untouched by anyone, and then encounter someone as good as Rong Jing.

It turns out, the heavens have never favored me. Why did they have to give me hope only to throw me back into the abyss?

What does he think of me now, an Omega that had already been seen and spied on by other Alphas? I’ve put so much effort into getting close to Rong Jing but all of that’s gone now. There’s no way Rong Jing would ever be willing again to mark me!

Gu Xi felt like every inch of his body had been licked by a venomous snake. He almost despairingly pushed Rong Jing away, but Rong Jing didn’t move, holding him tightly in his arms.

Gu Xi suddenly struggled, lowly growling, “Don’t touch me—” I’m so dirty, don’t touch me.

Though his voice sounded angry, it was filled with despair and self-loathing, something Rong Jing couldn’t miss.

He had never seen this side of Gu Xi, but it felt more real than the professionally smiling, emotion-concealing Gu Xi.

This was the true him.

His emotions had been suppressed for too long, accumulated over a considerable period, and finally erupted now.

At this moment, Gu Xi’s consciousness was not even fully clear. A hand expertly knocked the agitated Gu Xi unconscious. Gu Xi’s body went limp, and was caught by a warm embrace.

“Get some sleep. Everything will be fine when you wake up,” Rong Jing said tenderly as he gazed at the person in his arms. He turned his head slowly, and his gaze suddenly changed, turning icy as he looked at the living room wall.

First things first, let’s deal with you.
