Daydreaming About Me

Chapter 35.2: The Passionate Collision of School Bullies From the North and the South

Lin Yujing lowered her eyes and met Shen Juan’s gaze. For some reason, she had a subtly guilty conscience. She didn’t understand why, it just happened; her mind hadn’t figured out what she’d done yet and she’d already started to feel guilty.

She was silent. She carefully held onto the back of the chair with both hands, leaned over slightly, and asked him, “Do you want to eat together?”

Shen Juan raised his eyebrows, and his voice was calm. “With your little boyfriend?”

“…”

Lin Yujing wondered why Cheng Yi was so desperately bored.

She explained in a low voice: “No, I don’t have a boyfriend.”

Shen Juan nodded and played on his phone. “A suitor.”

“…”

Cheng Yi paused. “Friend?”

Lin Yujing: “Mhm.”

Cheng Yi was in a complicated mood. He knew what kind of person Lin Yujing was, and he was even ready to come meet her new class to help her socialize. It took a long time for her to make friends with someone. She was close to Lu Jiaheng because the two had been fighting with each other since they were little. She was friends with Cheng Yi, who had little else going for him, because he was so brazen.

Shen Juan didn’t seem to fit either scenario, but it took him two months to get to the point of familiarity where Lin Yujing was willing to take him out to eat. Her world had silently opened up to him.

Cheng Yi sincerely felt  that Shen Juan was kind of awesome.

Lu Jiaheng was a picky eater. There weren’t many restaurants near No. 8 High School; the largest was a hot pot restaurant at the end of the street, but only relatively so compared to those around it. Lin Yujing wasn’t surprised when Cheng Yi directed the taxi to the Zhengda Square Mall nearby.

Since the day’s special program left a little more free time than usual, there were many students wandering the mall wearing No. 8 High School uniforms. The trio stepped into the elevator. Cheng Yi pressed the button for the 5th floor, and then enthusiastically introduced himself to Shen Juan, “Brother, I’m Cheng Yi, Lin Yujing’s childhood friend. Fate brings us together, so we will be friends from now on!”

Shen Juan didn’t seem interested in friendship. He simply and stolidly replied “Shen Juan.”

Cheng Yi slightly raised his eyebrows. This guy is so cool.

It looked like Shen Juan had some kind of inexplicable hostility towards him. Fortunately he was Cheng Yi, peacemaker. If he were Lu Jiaheng, the one currently sitting in the restaurant, things may have already come to blows.

The first section of the 5th floor was the food court. There were many restaurants, and Lu Jiaheng had chosen Sichuan cuisine. The restaurants in the food court generally didn’t have separate seating, and the Sichuan restaurant was the same. There were tall wooden screens by each table so there could be some separation between parties. The three people walked along the tables to the left, and through the last screen saw Lu Jiaheng from behind.

The young man slouched in the chair as if he had no bones, flipping through the menu. He noticed them coming from the corner of his eye, and when he raised his head his eyes quickly fell upon the person he didn’t know.

Shen Juan stood at the edge of the screen and looked at Lu Jiaheng with his chin slightly raised and his eyes lowered.

Lin Yujing and Cheng Yi unconsciously took two steps back. She finally understood the concept of auras colliding.

The two stared at each other for several seconds until Lin Yujing decided that some kind of love had sparked, and Lu Jiaheng finally looked back down at the menu.

Cheng Yi lowered his head. “What’s going on? Is this the passionate collision of school bullies from the north and south?” He whispered, “Ah, it’s you! You are the one I was destined for.”

Lin Yujing was somewhat speechless. She raised her finger and pointed at Shen Juan, “This person, having mastered the skill of Beijing Paralysis [1]… I suspect that his blood is not that of a pure Southerner at all! He has overturned my more than ten years’ worth of perception of Southerners.”

Cheng Yi nodded. “He overturned my perception as well.”

At the square wooden table, Cheng Yi and Lu Jiaheng sat on one side and Lin Yujing and Shen Juan sat on the other. The waiter came over with three more menus, but Shen Juan didn’t look through his. Instead he put his fingertips on the side of the table, and with raised eyes asked the waiter, “Do you guys have any dishes that aren’t spicy?”

The waiter flipped the menu to the back. Shen Juan nodded, thanked the waiter, and browsed through the list.

Cheng Yi showed his friendly intentions by nicknaming Shen Juan, “Brother Shen, you can’t eat spicy food?”

Lin Yujing’s hands shook, overwhelmed by the nickname.

Shen Juan didn’t respond. He pinched the menu with his slender fingers and turned a page: “My deskmate doesn’t eat spicy food.”

Cheng Yi had known Lin Yujing for so long that he knew a little bit about her eating habits. He was taken aback by Shen Juan’s assertion and said, “She does eat spicy food. She would often eat it when we all went out together.”

Shen Juan raised his eyes. “She doesn’t eat spicy food anymore.”

“…”

Lin Yujing got the feeling that he was trying to compete for something.

Cheng Yi looked over with a confused face. “Uh huh…” Lu Jiaheng also raised his eyes and looked over.

Lin Yujing spread out her hands, revealing the thick gauze on her palms. “Today I accidentally fell on the steps.”

Lu Jiaheng frowned at the thick gauze wrapped around Lin Yujing’s palms, and looked at her with deep concern. “You can even fall on the steps, are you stupid?”

Lin Yujing was used to his attitude and responded quickly: “You’re stupid.”

Shen Juan, who’d been flipping through the menu, paused for a moment. He raised his head to look at Lu Jiaheng, pushed the menu forward slightly with his fingertips, and leaned squinting back into the chair, “Who’s stupid?”

Lu Jiaheng raised his eyebrows, looked at Shen Juan, and stayed silent.

There was a two-second stalemate before Cheng Yi suddenly raised his hands and shouted, “Me!”

Lin Yujing was stunned. The  three turned their heads and looked at Cheng Yi.

“…I’m stupid.” Cheng Yi sighed and said weakly.

The author has something to say:

Applause to celebrate the first meeting of the north and south schools’ bullies!

Cheng Yi: I am so f*cking tired, did I bring three children with me?
