Chapter 14 Broken Heart

Cheng Yu furrowed his brow. He looked like a boy and had a boyish personality. And he actually swam with so many boys.

Well, they were still in third or fourth grade, still just kids. He reluctantly convinced himself, but he still felt a bit unhappy for some reason. “You’re not allowed to swim with those boys anymore.”

As he said that, he came up with an idea and quietly reached out his hand, seizing the opportunity to reach into Cheng Yu’s clothes and tickle his waist. Cheng Yu didn’t expect this move and immediately dodged to the side. Seeing him dodge, Xue Youka didn’t retreat but instead pounced on him. Cheng Yu was tickled and tried to avoid him, saying, “Hey!”

“Alright, that’s enough!”

Xue Youka was still laughing and asked if Cheng Yu was ticklish.

Then, without paying attention—*thud!*

Cheng Yu fell into the water.

Xue Youka was stunned but quickly reacted. “Gege!”

He was about to jump in to save him, but Cheng Yu resurfaced.

With black hair sticking to his face and water droplets sliding down his face toward his chin, Cheng Yu shook his face to get rid of the water and calmly emerged from the pool.

He drank someone else’s foot-washing water.

Xue Youka saw his expression and was a bit afraid to move. He stammered an apology, “Gege, I didn’t mean to…”

Cheng Yu didn’t respond. He wiped the water droplets off his face with his palm, took off his shirt by the collar, turned around, and wrung it dry.

He was dripping wet all over. Water droplets from his hair trickled down his young and strong back, sliding into his jeans, which now appeared darker due to getting wet.

His pants and shoes were completely soaked, making him very uncomfortable, but Cheng Yu didn’t take them off in front of Xue Youka.

After wringing the shirt almost dry, Cheng Yu put it back on.

The wrinkled T-shirt hung on Cheng Yu’s body. He half-turned, and his wet face, with that tear mole, looked eerie. A tiny water droplet slid down his straight nose, falling from the tip.

Xue Youka dared not speak anymore.

“Let’s go down the mountain,” Cheng Yu uttered two words.

Xue Youka remained silent and quietly followed behind him. After a while, he finally gathered the courage to speak, “Are you mad at me?”

“No,” Cheng Yu replied.

Cheng Yu’s mind was full of the repeating thoughts—He drank someone else’s foot-washing water.

“You’re definitely mad. You’re not even talking to me… I’m sorry, Gege, I just… wanted to make you smile, make you happier.”

“I’m not.”

The two of them descended the slope, one in front of the other.

Xue Youka was genuinely afraid that he had angered Cheng Yu. He kept talking along the way, offering him eggs and ducks, suggesting they catch eels together, and even asking if there were any mice at his home, offering to help him get rid of them. He said all sorts of nice things, but in the end, Cheng Yu grew impatient and retorted, “Why do you touch people so casually?”

“…You’re not just anyone. What’s wrong with touching you?”

“Xue Mimi,” Cheng Yu’s earlobes seemed to turn slightly red, “I haven’t agreed to it yet.”

“What?” Xue Youka didn’t understand Cheng Yu’s statement.

“Never mind.”

“Oh… Are you still mad, then?” He observed Cheng Yu’s expression, unable to discern anything.

“No.”

During the descent, one kept asking the other while the other kept saying no, “Are you still mad?” “You’re not mad anymore, right?” “Really, you’re not angry?” They spent the journey in this back-and-forth dialogue. After reaching the bottom of the mountain, they passed by a vast field of golden rapeseed flowers. Cheng Yu turned his head to look, and Xue Youka immediately started introducing, “Beautiful, isn’t it? I told you it was beautiful, but you didn’t believe me.”

Cheng Yu nodded, and Xue Youka quietly reached out and touched his clothes.

Cheng Yu lowered his head. “Are you touching me again?”

“I just wanted to see if your clothes were dry,” Xue Youka said, “but your pants are still wet.”

Cheng Yu’s shoes and socks were completely soaked. He just wanted to get home as soon as possible.

However, as they continued walking, they came across a yellow stray dog at an intersection.

“Oh, damn it,” Xue Youka couldn’t help but curse.

He grabbed Cheng Yu’s arm and stopped him from walking further. “Don’t move. This dog is called Da Huang, and it’s aggressive.”

Cheng Yu looked over. The stray dog was blocking the middle of the road, showing its teeth as if ready to charge.

Cheng Yu wasn’t sure what he was afraid of. He bent down, picked up a stone, weighed it in his hand, and then threw it. Xue Youka couldn’t stop him in time and saw Da Huang go crazy, rushing towards them.

Xue Youka quickly reacted and started running.

Cheng Yu hesitated for a second, seeing the fierce expression on the dog’s face. He turned around and followed suit.

Xue Youka ran as fast as lightning. When he looked back, he saw Cheng Yu trailing behind, and the dog charging towards them. Xue Youka stopped in his tracks, turned around, and grabbed his hand. “Why are you running so slowly?”

Cheng Yu was wearing heavy and wet shoes, making it difficult for him to run. He couldn’t think much; he could only feel the wind rushing past his ears as he was being led by the hand, sprinting along the country road. The wind, carrying the scent of rapeseed flowers, brushed against his face, causing his partially dry black hair to flutter. He glanced sideways at the person running beside him.

Time seemed to slow down, and the pounding in his chest became heavy and wild.

Xue Youka bent over, hands on his knees, gasping for breath. “That stupid dog, crazy b*stard. Damn it, it chased us for at least a kilometre. I’ve never seen such a grudge-holding mutt. We almost died, almost died.” He lifted the hem of his shirt to let in some air, revealing a glimpse of his fair and slender waist.

Cheng Yu averted his gaze, also panting heavily. His face turned red from the exertion of running, and he said, “Stop swearing.”

Xue Youka chuckled and wiped the sweat off his neck. “Your watch has been beeping all this time.”

“It’s broken,” Cheng Yu replied, looking at this wild child who didn’t seem at all like a girl, yet seemed to be glowing.

“When we were being chased, you turned back to hold my hand,” Cheng Yu asked him, “Why?”

“Of course, I was afraid you would be bitten by the dog. You’re delicate and pampered, probably never encountered a stray dog like that before.” If Cheng Yu got bitten, he might come looking for compensation.

“I have never encountered one…” Cheng Yu’s gaze was deeper than usual, and he smiled slowly. “So wild.”

Xue Youka said that the stray dog was gone and was about to pull Cheng Yu away when Cheng Yu grabbed his wrist. “Hey.”

“The thing you mentioned the other day, I’ve thought about it,” Cheng Yu paused for a moment. “We can give it a try.”

“What?” Xue Youka looked up at him.

The crimson flush on Cheng Yu’s face travelled from his tear mole to behind his ears. “You know what I’m talking about.”

Xue Youka opened his mouth.

Cheng Yu lowered his voice. “Xue Mimi, don’t ask questions you already know the answers to.”

Damn it, Cheng Yu cursed inwardly. He had never done anything so embarrassing in his life.

Fortunately, they were in the wilderness with no one else around.

Xue Youka looked at Cheng Yu’s turned-away face and became even more puzzled. What was going on…?

Forget it, this young master had such a frustrating personality; he wouldn’t be able to get a clear answer.

“Oh, well, that’s fine,” he casually responded.

Cheng Yu heard his response and a slight curve appeared at the corner of his mouth. Not knowing how else to express it, he simply raised his hand and ruffled Xue Youka’s hair messily. “Tomorrow, gege will take you out to play.”
