I Eat My Own Jealousy chapter 26

Chapter 26

Due to worrying about Tuan Tuan, Jian Ning didn’t sleep very soundly. When light was starting to peek out from the clouds, he woke up in a daze and reached out to touch whether Tuan Tuan’s body was still warm. However, he found that there was someone lying behind him. The person was intimately embracing his waist, the warm breath spraying onto the top of his head.

Jian Ning was startled and instantly became awake. How could there be someone else on his bed? He slowly turned his head and discreetly adjusted the room’s lighting.

Seeing the person’s face clearly, Jian Ning was stunned. It was unexpectedly Zong Ye?

Not him? What nonsense was this? Jian Ning couldn’t believe it. The sky outside the window was faintly turning white. The man could sense that his alter ego was awakening within him and couldn’t continue like this any longer. He made up his mind, saying, “I’ll come find you tonight. Wait for me. I’ll explain everything.”

He kissed Jian Ning’s face and then gently touched Tuan Tuan, who was still sleeping. The man lifted the covers and got out of bed, hastily opened the door, and left.

… What was going on? Jian Ning wiped the drool off his face, feeling somewhat bewildered.

After sleeping through the night, Tuan Tuan’s high fever had subsided. After freshening up, Jian Ning carried Tuan Tuan downstairs.

“Young Master Jian, you’re up so early,” Abel, the butler, said as he was about to go upstairs with Dr. Wilson to check on Tuan Tuan. Dr. Wilson examined Tuan Tuan briefly and confirmed that he was fine.

“Young Master Jian, please have a seat for a moment. Breakfast is being prepared in the kitchen,” Butle Abel invited him to sit on the couch and went upstairs to fetch Zong Ye and Zong Ming.

Zong Ye was fastening his cufflinks as he descended the stairs. When he looked up, he saw Jian Ning sitting on the couch, his gaze fixed on him.

“Why aren’t you at the dining table?” Zong Ye asked, and with that, he went to the dining table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.

Zong Ming and Butler Abel followed them downstairs. Zong Ming greeted Jian Ning and took a seat at the dining table. Butler Abel took Tuan Tuan from Jian Ning’s arms and said, “Young Master Jian, after finishing breakfast, Young Master Zong Ye will drop you off at the academy.”

The three of them finished breakfast quietly. Zong Ye put on his military coat and said to Jian Ning, “Let’s go.”

Jian Ning bid farewell to Tuan Tuan and Butler Abel, then followed Zong Ye out.

Inside the hovercar, only the two of them were present. Jian Ning had been holding in his curiosity all morning, finally he asked, “What are you going to explain to me tonight?”

“What tonight?” Zong Ye set the route for the hover car to drive automatically and turned to look at Jian Ning.

How could this guy seem to have forgotten again? Jian Ning felt anger welling up within him.

“You’re forgetting what you said again?!” Angrily, he turned his head to look out of the window, refusing to speak to Zong Ye any further.

Zong Ye furrowed his brows in confusion.

The hover car came to a stop outside the academy’s gates. Jian Ning opened the door to get out, but Zong Ye grabbed his wrist, his expression serious as he asked, “Did I go to find you last night?”

“… Are you asking me?” Jian Ning was speechless, he pulled his wrist out of Zong Ye’s grasp and walked into the academy without looking back.

Thinking of that possibility, Zong Ye’s gaze darkened. He activated the hover car and turned back in the direction they came from.

Inside the Zong residence, Zong Ming was about to leave when he saw his brother returning in haste.

“Why are you back?” Zong Ming asked curiously.

Ignoring him, Zong Ye instructed Butler Abel, “Retrieve the surveillance footage from the second-floor corridor last night.”

Though Butler Abel was puzzled, he followed the orders and retrieved the surveillance footage from the second-floor corridor.

Zong Ye fast-forwarded through the footage and finally, at around half past three in the morning, he saw his bedroom door opening and him walking out, entering the room across the hall. It wasn’t until nearly five in the morning that he returned to his own room.

Zong Ming and Butler Abel exchanged surprised glances. Zong Ye then pulled up surveillance footage from the garden. Looking at the time, Zong Ming remembered that it was the night of the Gaia Military Academy’s ball.

In the surveillance footage, around half past three in the morning again, Zong Ye’s room window opened, and his beast form jumped out from inside. Silently, it left the mansion and returned around five in the morning.

“Where’s Dr. Wilson? Bring him back here,” Zong Ye rubbed his temples and instructed.

Dr. Wilson had just arrived home when he received a communication from Butler Abel, summoning him back to the mansion. When he returned, Zong Ye showed him the two surveillance clips and said, “Doctor, he took advantage of my deep sleep last night and sneaked out again.”

“How is that possible?” Dr. Wilson was extremely surprised. After the previous treatment, Zong Ye had been able to effectively suppress his alter ego. Such a situation shouldn’t have occurred.

Zong Ye lowered his gaze thoughtfully. “I think it’s related to someone. Each time this has happened, it’s because I saw that person’s face.”

Zong Ming chimed in, “Jian Ning?”

Zong Ye nodded. He had been avoiding looking at Jian Ning’s face precisely because he was concerned about this kind of situation.

Dr. Wilson’s family and the Zong family had a strong relationship, and Dr. Wilson had been Zong Ye’s primary physician since he was young, so he knew about Zong Ye’s time spent on Blue Star for nearly half a year. He had heard about the young man from yesterday and his background from Butler Abel, along with his connection to Zong Ye during their time on Blue Star. He couldn’t help but sigh, “Love is truly miraculous.”

Zong Ye glanced at him expressionlessly and asked, “What about the method you suggested last time?”

Dr. Wilson hesitated for a moment and then said, “Marshal, I believe making your alter ego disappear is not a good idea.”

“Why not?” Zong Ye furrowed his brows.

Dr. Wilson earnestly explained, “Because you two are originally the same person, he is a part of you.”

Zong Ye had been the family physician of the Zong family since Zong Ye’s birth. Zong Ye’s personality during his childhood wasn’t as indifferent as it was now. It was only after the incident happened that Zong Ye was pushed to the brink of collapse, splitting his emotions and creating two personas. From then on, each persona held a portion of his emotions.

Zong Ye’s current primary persona had gained dominance due to its grasp on rational and composed emotions. The other persona, however, had a stronger hold on emotional aspects. If the alter ego were to disappear, Zong Ye would forever remain emotionally detached, which wasn’t what he wanted. He didn’t want Zong Ye to become an emotionless war machine.

“No, we are two different individuals, with completely different personalities,” Zong Ye’s expression turned serious. He and his alter ego had never been the same person. For example, during that period of over half a year on Blue Star, he had abandoned numerous military matters to linger around a young man. It was unforgivable. He admitted that the young man was good-looking, but he wasn’t worth his time. The person his alter ego liked was someone he would never like.

Dr. Wilson smiled knowingly but didn’t say anything. He had observed Zong Ye’s behavior with different personas—favorite foods, habits he wasn’t consciously aware of—were generally consistent. Even though the emotional split had led to differing personalities, their fundamental preferences wouldn’t change. So, if the alter ego could fall in love with the young man, the primary persona could too. The power of love was extraordinary; perhaps that young man could be the remedy he needed.
