The Daily Task of Preventing My Disciple from Turning to the Dark Side Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Gu Yunjue held onto Mu Chen’s hand and said, “Shifu, don’t you think it’s not quite appropriate to hang it here?”

Mu Chen tilted his head and asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?” This item needs to be nurtured with one’s spiritual power regularly, so it definitely can’t be stored in a spatial ring. People say that valuable things are safest when kept close to the heart, and besides, this red bell looks quite nice hanging around the neck.

Helplessly, Gu Yunjue smiled and said, “Shifu, I canmake it recognize me as its owner.”

Late at night, with Mu Chen already in deep meditation, the entire Yanyang Palace was quiet and serene. Only the rustling of the wind through the bamboo forest could be heard. Gu Yunjue took out a communication token and checked the story behind Mu Chen obtaining the soul-protecting bell. His expression grew increasingly grim. Why did his master give him the soul-protecting bell and not something else? Although he was initially puzzled and thought it was just a coincidence, he didn’t expect that Mu Chen had actually requested it from the Sect Master.

Considering the timing of Mu Chen’s appearance, a vague idea formed in Gu Yunjue’s mind, though he found it hard to believe. He was able to be reborn because of his Soul Refining Demon Art. But why was Mu Chen acting this way now? If he knew about the future events, why didn’t he just kill him directly? Why treat him so well instead?

Unable to come to a conclusion, Gu Yunjue furrowed his brows in irritation and asked the person across from him, “What is the Sect Master doing now?”

The person respectfully replied, “He’s reconstructing his physical body.”

“After he succeeds, kill him. Make it clean, and don’t implicate the Yanyang Palace. If he’s been crippled, he will hold a grudge against Mu Chen. Deal with anyone who holds enmity towards my Shifu. My Shifu’s hands should always remain clean.”

“Young Master, won’t this extra action complicate the mission given to us by our Lord?”

Gu Yunjue’s lips curled up in a gentle smile, which sent a shiver down the messenger’s spine. He kept his head bowed even lower, careful not to reveal any emotions. He knew how terrifying this five-year-old child truly was. Within his small body resided a dreadful demon. His divine soul might be even more elevated than the Emperor’s, and his ambitions might surpass even the Emperor’s. On their journey to this continent, this child had forcibly extracted a part of his divine soul. Life and death were completely under the child’s control. All he could do now was obey.

Seeing the other person show signs of submission, Gu Yunjue chuckled lightly, saying, “Remember who your master is and don’t provoke my displeasure.”

The other person breathed a sigh of relief and quickly replied, “I understand. I will make the arrangements.”

Gu Yunjue’s smile lacked any warmth. “You don’t need to worry about my Father there,” he said, pausing for a moment. His smile then brightened considerably. “His time is almost up. Instead of worrying about him, you should find a way to extend your own lifespan.”

In the early morning, Mu Chen, who was meditating on his bed, felt the disturbance of the barrier he had set up. He opened his eyes to see his little disciple rushing toward him with great excitement, calling out, “Shifu!”

Mu Chen quickly reached out and caught him. Seeing his little disciple’s smiling face so early in the morning, Mu Chen’s mood improved greatly.

“Shifu, look!” Mu Chen saw Gu Yunjue placing the bell in his palm. The soul-protecting bell emitted a white light and gradually turned transparent, merging completely into Gu Yunjue’s body.

“How did you do that?” Mu Chen asked in amazement, holding onto his disciple’s small hand. Although he knew that his disciple would eventually make the bell recognize him as its owner, he hadn’t expected Gu Yunjue to achieve it at just five years old.

“It willingly recognized me as its owner.”

“Willingly?” Mu Chen hugged his little disciple, his mood uplifted. He patted the young one’s head and praised him earnestly, “You truly are a genius.”

Gu Yunjue chuckled, his voice clear and full of childlike innocence. Making a divine artifact recognize its owner was actually quite simple. In his previous life, the Qiankun Soul-Protecting Bell had been his spiritual weapon. He knew exactly what it desired most. Beings with consciousness all had weaknesses, and he had mastered the understanding of human nature to a profound extent.

Glancing around Mu Chen’s room, Gu Yunjue couldn’t help but purse his lips. His little Shifu had lived for so many years, yet he remained so dull. Life seemed to have been consistently simple for him, to the point where the room’s furnishings hadn’t changed in a hundred years. Gu Yunjue inexplicably wanted to toss out everything in the room and replace it with a set of luxurious items, perfectly suited to his Shifu’s status!

Amused by Gu Yunjue’s antics, Mu Chen lost his desire to continue cultivating. The present priority was to take care of his disciple’s body.

It must be said that Gu Yunjue’s small physique was indeed frail. He had been born prematurely and hadn’t received proper care after birth. He was covered in hidden injuries and suffered from severe malnutrition. Mu Chen dared not use any of the numerous treasures here on him, fearing that Gu Yunjue’s body might collapse under the pressure of spiritual power.

What to do when medicine can’t be ingested? Dietary supplementation!

With enough effort, even dietary supplementation could make him gain weight!

During breakfast, Mu Chen held his little disciple in his arms and personally lifted a large bowl of spirit rice. With a gentle expression, he fed it to Gu Yunjue, who was momentarily stunned before quickly opening his mouth to eat. Mu Chen then picked up a piece of spiritual beast meat, and Gu Yunjue obediently opened his mouth again, appearing quite docile.

As Mu Chen continued to feed him, he grew happier and happier. The more he looked at his tiny disciple, the more adorable he seemed. With delicate brows, beautiful eyes, a high nose, thin lips, a refined little chin, and that sweet and well-behaved smile, Mu Chen felt a soft spot in his heart get pricked, and he couldn’t help but pinch Gu Yunjue’s face before feeding him another spoonful of soup.

Both master and disciple were contentedly engaged in their feeding routine, utterly at ease with each other. The onlooking servants were astounded by the sight, suspecting that something was wrong with Mu Chen. Who would have thought that this seemingly aloof man actually adored children? They knew he liked things with fur from observing the group of monsters on the mountain behind the palace, but children? They all turned to the easygoing Jing Ming for help, thinking he might be able to stop this behavior, right?

Jing Ming blinked, looking completely bewildered, and asked, “Huh?”

Gu Yunjue had a satisfied smile on his face, though his belly was beginning to feel uncomfortably full. Mu Chen showed no signs of stopping; he continued feeding him, bite after bite. Gu Yunjue hadn’t seen his Master this happy in a long time, so he didn’t want to refuse. He felt like if they kept eating like this, he might burst, but he’d still be content.

It was Jing Ting who couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Glancing at Gu Yunjue’s bulging belly, his expression became complicated. “Palace Master, he’s going to eat himself sick. Could you… let him go?”

Gu Yunjue rubbed his belly and smiled contentedly, saying, “Shifu.”

Only then did Mu Chen put down his chopsticks. He felt like his little disciple was eating “less,” and he was somewhat disappointed. He took a handkerchief from a server’s hand and wiped his little disciple’s mouth. Then, he took out a bottle of pills from his spatial ring, opened it, and poured one out. An exquisite fragrance instantly filled the air as he urged, “Eat it.”

“Shifu, what kind of pill is this?”

“A child’s snack.” Mu Chen said casually.

Gu Yunjue leaned closer, cupping Mu Chen’s hand and placing the pill in his mouth. He felt the warmth of Mu Chen’s palm on his lips, which oddly made him feel quite reassured. The small pill dissolved upon contact with his tongue, releasing a subtle fruity fragrance. Soon after, he felt his body lighten, his stomach no longer felt bloated, and the pain from his hidden injuries subsided.

Indeed, his little Shifu had a unique talent for alchemy. Even his pills were made to taste like children’s snacks. Thinking that Mu Chen was so attentive to him, Gu Yunjue’s heart felt as if it had been stirred in honey, both sweet and warm.

Just as he was about to express his feelings to his Shifu, ready to say something playful, a short figure entered the Yanyang Palace’s barrier without any care, running in with great urgency and exclaiming, “Senior Martial Uncle! Something astonishing, breathtaking, and heartening has happened!”

Gu Yunjue’s expression turned cold. He recognized that voice very well – it belonged to that shameless person who shamelessly clung to his Shifu. The same person who came to cling to his Shifu every day, rather than sticking to his own Shifu!

Hearing the voice, Mu Chen raised his head, his expression filled with a deep sense of resignation. The only person who could call him “Senior Martial Uncle” was Chu Qianshuang, a disciple of Liu Hanzhi, the Palace Master of the Hanyang Palace – and he was an incorrigible foodie.

Chu Qianshuang was Liu Hanzhi’s direct disciple. Mu Chen and Liu Hanzhi had grown up together, and they had come to the Chongyun Sect together. The Hanyang Palace and the Yanyang Palace were neighboring palaces, so Chu Qianshuang often made his way to Mu Chen’s place. He usually came for no particular reason other than seeking food.

Chu Qianshuang appeared to be around the same age as Jing Ting and the others, about thirteen or fourteen years old. He had big eyes, a baby-face, and two dimples when he smiled. He wore the standard attire of a first-generation disciple, a white robe with a blue jade symbol hanging from his waist and a long sword strapped to his back. There was a large gourd hanging from the sword hilt, and as he ran, his sleeves and the gourd fluttered up and down.

Seeing Gu Yunjue in Mu Chen’s arms, Chu Qianshuang exclaimed in surprise, “Is this the legendary Junior Martial Uncle?”

“The legendary?” Gu Yunjue shook the bottle in his hand and asked with a smile, “What’s the story?”

Chu Qianshuang’s gaze followed the swaying bottle as he said, “The entire Chongyun Sect knows that Senior Martial Uncle took in a direct disciple, cherishes him like a treasure, and even negotiated terms with the Sect Master to exchange for a defensive spiritual weapon.” Obviously, Yue Mingze had kept the news about the soul-protecting bell confidential, and the outside world was unaware of the artifact being with Gu Yunjue. “All those disciples are working hard to cultivate, waiting for the sect’s grand competition to teach this fortunate fellow a lesson.”

Seeing his little disciple remain silent, Mu Chen assumed he was intimidated and quickly patted his head to comfort him, “The news you mentioned just now, what is it?”

Hello! Thank you for your updates! But if it's okay, I noticed a little error with one of the honorifics. Gu Yunjue addresses his master as "师尊", which reads as "Shizun", not "Shifu" (师父). I hope you don't mind me pointing this out ahah just for future chapters :D. Thank you!!

No, it's fine. I'm actually not used to pinyin honorifics. As I've said before, I'm more on the modern type haha and just recently ventured into the cultivation and historical world in translating. I usually just translate it in english but I've been trying to incorporate the pinyin honorifics. And when I read it in Chinese, I just usually gloss over it. I read lots of cultivation novels but I just don't put much emphasis on their honorifics as it gets me confused. LOL. Thank you so much for pointing it out and I truly appreciate it!
