Debugging in Book Series

Chapter 27.3

Once more, Jing Xi pulled off some shenanigans before being persuaded by “Instead of informing Duan Chi that you are gone, why not show him that you are enduring a fate far more excruciating than death itself?”
[Alright, I’ll head to the exiled star. After all, I’ve already made up my mind to take my life, so I might as well do it there!]

Knowing far too well how unpredictable this drama queen could be, the duo dreaded the thought of a last-minute change of heart. As such, desperation drove them to convince him to purchase a ticket for tonight’s flight.

With a swift click, Jing Xi closed the messenger and made his way to the port. On the other hand, Duan Chi remained to make two public appearances before darting toward a waiting private spacecraft and hurtling toward the destination.

Traveling from Howe to the exiled star was no short journey, spanning a good half-month by flight. Along the way, the restless mind of Jing Xi danced with doubts as he toyed with the notion of bailing out mid-flight, convinced that some elaborate ruse was at play.

Yet, the fugitives were not about to let him escape that easily. They resorted to utilizing various means to distract his probing mind. As days turned into weeks, Jing Xi found himself utterly drained by the relentless turmoil that gnawed at him.

Gritting their teeth, the duo silently vowed to give him a good beating the instant he set foot in their vicinity.

On the other hand, both Jing Xi’s and Duan Chi’s timing were nothing short of impeccable.

The duo chuckled, “Seeing how gullible he is, we’ve hatched a brilliant plan, and we think your skills would be the perfect addition. What do you say? Fancy coming on board? This is your golden ticket to get up close and personal for some juicy intel.”

The hacker gave a shrug and refused, “Nah, count me out. I’ve heard tales of Duan Chi’s wrath, and I’d rather not find out if they’re true.”

The duo explained, “That makes the three of us, and we’re not looking to harm anyone either. We’re just here to make a quick buck, but our tech skills leave much to be desired. How about this? Since Duan Chi has yet to show up, let’s have a great time with him and work our magic for the moolah before we send him on his merry way?”

Intrigued by their plan, the hacker could not resist the allure of joining in. What truly captivated him, though, was his insatiable curiosity for juicy gossip.

As a show of good faith, he generously waived the charges. Without delay, he verified that Duan Chi was still on Howe and a certain individual had indeed arrived with just a single driver, whose identity check passed without a hitch.

In a split second, they heaved a sigh of relief before whisking him out of the city, their destination set for the open expanse of the outskirts.

One of them sat next to the hacker and gestured toward the dwindling crowd outside the window. “Let’s hold off just a bit longer until our driver’s out of sight. What’s more, no one will ever suspect he followed us since there’s nothing but a sea of blossoms there. Plus, it’s going to make your task a whole lot smoother.”

As the hacker gazed out the window, an unexpected force struck his neck before he could even utter his response. In an instant, the darkness consumed him completely.

With a twisted grin dancing across their faces, the fugitives nonchalantly tossed the lifeless body onto the seat. It was quite possible that he knew their entire plan that involved the drama queen, so their patience was wearing thinner by the moment.

While the driver navigated the road, his ears perked up to the commotion behind him, and a hearty chuckle escaped his lips.

In the hidden depths of this unforgiving region, they had stealthily built a formidable force. Once their target was in their grasp, their scheme would then be set in motion. They would reunite with the rest of their team, retreat to the shadows, and prepare themselves for an epic showdown with Duan Chi.

At this moment, they were on a quest to devise the ultimate plan to eliminate Duan Chi once and for all. With him out of the picture, they could finally stand tall and free from the shadow of fear that had held them captive for so long.

Their thrilling new life was about to begin at that very moment!

However, a voice from the back seat reminded, “Quick, don’t let that driver slip away!”
The driver reassured, “Don’t worry, they’ll all take this secret to their graves.”

As they pulled up, they witnessed the drama queen alighting from the car with arms flung wide, reveling in pure joy amidst a vibrant sea of flowers.

Meanwhile, the driver leaned out of the window and called out to him. When his calls fell on deaf ears, he begrudgingly stepped out and retrieved his luggage from the trunk.

On seeing that, the duo pounced on the chance, revving their engines and zooming over in an instant.

Jing Xi’s ears perked at the unmistakable noise, and with a hint of apprehension, he cast an uncertain gaze in their direction.

‘Bloody hell, you’re here at last!’

With thoughts of the psychological ordeal they had endured, the two fugitives fought the urge to lash out. Instead, they flourished with a brilliant smile as they stepped out of the car — one approached the driver while the other headed for him.

“You must be Yi Zhou, right? We’re friends of Hearts…”

Before they could finish their sentence, the car door swung open, and out emerged Duan Chi.

On seeing this, the duo fell into a stunned silence.

At this juncture, neither of them could even afford to spare a second thought. Instantly, their countenance contorted as they underwent an awe-inspiring transformation. With each passing moment, their bodies expanded exponentially as they shifted into ferocious beast forms, ready to lunge at the drama queen.

Without warning, a large majestic beast stood in their way as they began to advance forward.

The adult Lupinus Mutant in his beast form stretched over twenty meters as he guarded Jing Xi beneath his massive frame. Hence, all Jing Xi could see was an endless sea of pristine snow.

Raising his eyebrows, he instantly exclaimed, “Oh, wow!”
Immediately right after, System chimed in eagerly, “Woah! Impressive, innit? Doesn’t a Lupinus Mutant’s beast form exude a domineering aura and make you feel secure at the same time?”
Jing Xi simply shrugged, “I’m not sure.”
System prodded, “In that case, why did you say wow at his form? Were you not surprised?”
Jing Xi chuckled, “Nah, I’m just curious about what they’d be wearing when they turn back into a human.”

Upon hearing that, System was left utterly speechless.

It could not resist from exclaiming inwardly, ‘What in the world goes on in that brain of yours!? Perhaps, you should just remain single for the rest of your life!’
