After Rebirth, I was Entangled by a Second Generation Rich Guy Again

Chapter 70

Wen Yu sat in a strange room, looking around in confusion, not knowing what he was doing in this unfamiliar place.

Suddenly, the door opened, and a middle-aged police officer helped an elderly lady inside, saying, “Here she is, here she is. Comrade, take a look, is this auntie?”

Could it be… Ji Anning’s grandmother?

As his gaze rose, Wen Yu felt “himself” stand up and remain quiet for a moment. He heard his own voice say, “Yes.”

Suddenly, the scene changed. He was driving, and Ji Anning’s grandmother was sitting in the back seat.

Strange people and strange cars made her uneasy. She kept repeating, “Where’s Ningning? Why hasn’t Ningning come back yet? Who are you? Where are you taking me? I need to cook for Ningning, or else she’ll be hungry when she comes back from school.”

Each mention of “Ningning” drilled into his ears and pierced his heart. Wen Yu felt the pain of “himself” as his heart contracted.1He’s dreaming and he felt the heartbreak dream Wen Yu is feeling.

He abruptly turned the steering wheel, bringing the car to a stop on the side of the road.

Who did it?

Who?

He wanted to kill him!

Wen Yu suddenly woke up.

The alarm clock was ringing. Wen Yu slapped it off, pushed aside the covers, and sat up, rubbing his temples.

His habit of daydreaming and having dreams at night was getting worse.

Yesterday, he had a discussion with Ji Anning about the nursing home, which ended on a sour note, leading to this dream. He had actually dreamed of his grandmother and even Director Liu from the Great Love Nursing Home. He had visited there a few days ago and had dinner with Director Liu.

Wen Yu wondered, what was he dreaming about? Was he dreaming of sending his grandmother to a nursing home?

That was a bit twisted, wasn’t it?

In the past few days, Ji Anning and Wen Yu were not exactly in a cold war, but whenever Wen Yu tried to bring up the topic of the nursing home, Ji Anning would instantly fall into a silent and stubborn mode.

Even Chen Hao and Bai Lu noticed that something was off between them.

Chen Hao even advised Wen Yu, “If you’ve done something wrong, have a little self-awareness. Apologizing sooner will make her happy sooner. The longer you drag it out, the more upset she’ll become.”

Wen Yu was instantly angered. “Why am I the one who’s wrong? You don’t know anything. How can you just assume it’s my fault?”

“Of course, it’s you!” Chen Hao decisively asserted, “If there’s a mistake between Anning and you, it can’t possibly be her fault.”

Chen Hao, who had been training in the boxing club for so long, reacted swiftly, evading Wen Yu’s sudden kick and making a run for it.

“Come back if you dare!” Wen Yu yelled in frustration.

“I’m not stupid!” Chen Hao disappeared in a flash.

Returning home over the weekend, Wen Guoan noticed something was amiss.

“What’s wrong? You seem down,” Wen Guoan asked.

Considering that Wen Yu didn’t seem to have any issues with his studies or work at the company, there was only one possibility.

“Did you have a fight with your girlfriend?” he guessed correctly.

Wen Yu touched his face, somewhat surprised. “Is it that obvious?”

Wen Guoan had always advised him not to show too much emotion and keep his inner thoughts hidden. Wen Yu had always thought he was doing well in that regard. He never expected to be exposed within a minute in front of his father.

Wen Guoan looked at him with a sly smile. “So, is this girlfriend really special to you?”

Advertisements

His son was just like him when he was young, experienced and not tied down by any one person. None of his past girlfriends had left any lasting impression on his life. He had always known when his son had a girlfriend but didn’t know their names, appearances, or whether today’s girlfriend was the same as yesterday’s.

Wen Guoan had a carefree attitude about it.

However, this time, things were different. His son was shamelessly showing off his love on social media.

“You upset her, did you?” Wen Guoan, half-wearing his reading glasses, offered some advice to his son. “Buy her something, and she’ll be happy.”

“…Tacky,” Wen Yu scoffed. “Can love be bought with money?”

“Ah, I see. Let me guess, she’s the proud and aloof type who’s not moved by money?” Wen Guoan, a seasoned player, hit the nail on the head.

Wen Yu sighed, “Not only is she unmoved, she’s also stubborn.”

This son of his had been spoiled to the point of being very arrogant, but Wen Guoan never expected him to be so disheartened. Now, Wen Guoan was curious, “What’s going on? Tell me.”

Wen Yu put down the chess piece he was holding, leaned back, and propped his feet up on Wen Guoan’s large desk. “It’s like this, I’m doing all this for her own good…”

He quickly explained Ji Anning’s situation to his father.

Wen Guoan removed his reading glasses and said, “This won’t work, for sure. You’re talking about separating a grandmother and her granddaughter.”

“Why won’t it work?” Wen Yu was getting agitated. “It’s not like they won’t see each other forever. They can visit on weekends. Those students whose families aren’t in the same city have to wait for holidays and festivals to see their parents. Isn’t that a longer separation?”

Advertisements

“It’s not the same. They depend on each other. After going through the toughest days together, you want to separate them now?” Wen Guoan understood.

But Wen Yu didn’t get it. “Is it that big of a deal?”

Wen Guoan pointed at him with his hand, shaking his head. “You…”

Wen Yu had always been the center of attention since he was a child, and no one made him feel indispensable. In this matter, he did seem a bit self-centered.

“The girl sounds pretty good, and she’s clear-headed,” Wen Guoan commented.

“Of course. Why would I choose a fool?” Wen Yu rolled his eyes.

“Hurry up and marry her and give me a grandson,” Wen Guoan teased with a mischievous smile. “If you have one, I’ll reward you with this much.” He gestured to a number.

Wen Yu was resolute like a party member. “Don’t think you can corrupt me with money.”

One at twenty and one at eighteen, what kind of talk was this? The old man was going crazy wanting a grandchild!

Wen Guoan sighed with frustration and said, “I regret having you so late in life. I don’t even know if I’ll live long enough to hold a grandson. Our family doesn’t have much prosperity in terms of offspring. I’m an old man, all alone…”

Wen Yu wasn’t buying into his act. “Who told you not to have a few more kids with my mom?”

When Cheng Lian was mentioned, a slightly different expression flashed in Wen Guoan’s eyes, but he quickly returned to his usual self, saying, “One child, and you’ll inherit half of my wealth. Two children, and you’ll only have a third left…”

Wen Yu imagined it and retracted his previous statement. “No, forget it. Just having me is fine.”

The only child of an only child, carrying on the family line, the sole heir.

After the weekend, it would be New Year’s Day, and the school would be on holiday.

To mend his relationship with Ji Anning, Wen Yu proposed a plan to take his grandmother on a trip.

“We’ll go to South Shine Temple, light incense, pray for blessings for Grandma,” he said, “stay for one night, there’s a hot spring there, and we can take Grandma to soak in it. Let me tell you, soaking in a hot spring is great for the bones and health of the elderly.”

Ji Anning was persuaded.

Wen Yu didn’t use his large off-road vehicle this time; he had the driver take an extended van. The rear compartment was closed, with double rows of seats facing each other, and the suspension was excellent, so Grandma didn’t feel motion sickness on the long drive.

However, she was looking outside and asked, “Where are you taking me?”

Ji Anning replied, “Taking you for a trip. To burn incense and pay respects to the Buddha.”

Wen Yu was stunned.

His grandmother’s words, tone, and even choice of words were exactly the same as in his dream.

What was going on? Why was he having these dreams lately where he couldn’t distinguish between dreams and reality? Was he going crazy?

South Shine Temple was up in the mountains, and to show sincere respect, one had to climb up to burn incense.

However, Grandma had difficulty walking, and Wen Yu’s car drove directly to the back gate of the temple.

When they entered the hall, Ji Anning’s steps hesitated for a moment, then she walked in without looking back. Fortunately, the Buddha did not remove this “bug.”

She had a secret that couldn’t be spoken, and she feared the future. She was anxious and fearful, and she prayed particularly devoutly in front of the Buddha.

Wen Yu also prayed sincerely.

People like them didn’t come to temples empty-handed. He had made a donation for the temple before coming. They had made a reservation in advance, and when it was time to pay respects, the presiding monk accompanied them. Despite his solemn expression, he couldn’t hide the joy in his eyes.

“The donation has been offered, and your disciples and grandchildren have already received it. Whether they keep it or not, how much benefit they obtain, that’s no longer within my control. Anyway, Buddha!” Wen Yu clasped his hands together, silently praying, “If my wishes come true tonight, I’ll come back to have you cast a golden statue.”

Wen Yu had arranged this outing with a purpose.

After a fine vegetarian meal, they left South Shine Temple and drove to a nearby hot spring hotel. Wen Yu had arranged a large suite for the three of them.

However, Ji Anning saw through his intentions at a glance. After soaking in the hot spring, she accompanied her grandmother back to the room to sleep! Wen Yu went to knock on the door, and she told him through the door that they could talk about it tomorrow.

Wen Yu’s carefully arranged plans were foiled, not even a chance for a flirtatious glance. Thinking about Ji Anning in a swimsuit, he lay down in frustration and felt that the temple had definitely pocketed all the donation money. They probably hadn’t even brought it before the Buddha!

The hot spring did nourish people. Ji Anning and her grandmother not only slept well but also had rosy complexions. Only Young Master Wen had dark circles under his eyes, looking like he hadn’t slept well.

Ji Anning was well aware of the situation but pretended not to notice.

On the way back, Grandma fell asleep, occupying an entire seat all by herself. Wen Yu extended his “wolf claws.”

Ji Anning was afraid of waking Grandma and didn’t dare to say anything, allowing him to hold and nibble on her neck the whole way.

This guy had a preference for nibbling on her neck. When Ji Anning got home, she found strawberry marks all over her neck, which wouldn’t do at all. She searched through her closet and fortunately found a high-necked sweater to wear the next day.

When Young Master Wen saw her in the high-necked sweater, he wore a knowing smile. His smile made Ji Anning blush.

The topic of the nursing home was gently brushed aside, thanks to Wen Guoan’s reminder to Wen Yu. Ji Anning couldn’t bear to be separated from her grandmother, so they decided to figure out a solution in the future.

And with that, this matter was put to rest.

Sansukini: They both have a point with regards to the grandma. As a utilitarian, I side more with Wen Yu because when you are studying and working, your grandma is alone at home with dementia. That’s not really very ideal. But Dad really has a good explanation too. I realy like Wen Yu’s relationship with his Dad. It’s usually the daughter having a close relationship with Dad in the cnovels that I have read.

Please support my new novel, coming soon. It will replace Married to the Male Lead’s Hidden Rich Brother every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It’s an ancient era genre called “Casting Nets to Catch a Husband.” It was about a beautiful girl who was sold by her family and became a prostitute.(More like a geisha because she just performs dances and sings for the men.) She died before they can sell her body to the highest bidder and woke up (rebirth) to the time before her family sold her. Here you go…

Casting Nets to Catch a Husband

Liu Yu, with her exquisite beauty, was sold into a brothel by her heartless parents in her previous life and died on the night she left the pavilion in the most luxurious brothel in Yangzhou City.

When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the year she was fifteen, just one month before being sold to the matchmaker by her parents.

With her rebirth, there was one urgent matter at hand.
Within a month, she had to find a good husband for herself, escape from the Liu family, and avoid the fate of being sold in her previous life.

She took all the money she could spare, knocked on the door of the matchmaker’s house in Changfeng Town. And as soon as she left the matchmaker’s house, she met a young man. The matchmaker whispered to her, “Lu Chengxiao, the third son of the Lu family, the owner of the Lu Feng Cloth Shop.”

Liu Yu understood; he was her third target.

Recently, Lu Chengxiao had encountered a beautiful woman several times and admired her. He was thinking it was a match destined for marriage.

It wasn’t until one day when they met in the mountains, the beautiful woman twisted her foot and couldn’t move so he carried her all the way.

When he returned to deliver the medicine, he saw the beautiful woman walking lightly, with no sign of a twisted foot. The heat behind his ears receded, and his eyes grew colder. He turned and went back to Changfeng Town.

Several days later, the beautiful woman shyly handed him a purse, thanking him for his help.

Lu Chengxiao sneered, “Thanking me for helping? That day, I turned back and saw the lady walking normally. Why would I need to help?”

“I can’t accept this purse. If we privately exchange gifts, it might be hard to explain later. It’s better for the lady to keep her dignity.”

Alright, this one couldn’t work. Liu Yu took back the purse, curtsied, and walked away…

Lu Chengxiao thought it was a decisive rejection, until several days later, he saw Liu Yu drop an embroidered handkerchief in front of the bookshop where the young man, Chen Sheng, worked. The gentleman picked up the scented handkerchief, and the beautiful woman blushed and thanked him. What a beautiful encounter.

Lu Chengxiao: “…”

A wave of frustration welled up in his chest, and he clenched his teeth as he tossed and turned in his dreams.

Until later, when he saw Liu Yu about to stage a falling-into-the-water scene, Lu Chengxiao panicked. He jumped into the river before Chen Sheng, pulled her ashore, held her slender waist, and couldn’t help but feel both angry and pained. He didn’t even want to ask more questions. He just held her in his arms and almost begged, “Don’t you want a good marriage? I’ll marry you!”

【This is a story that begins with scheming, falls into love, with a heart full of sincerity, and ends up in a marriage. It is also a story of two major businesses rising, with elements of urban and farming life.]

I like Wen Yu relationship with her dad…it’s sorta cute how they can freely talk to each other like that.

Personally I think Ji Anning should take Wen Yu help on the matter of her grandmother. Currently she’s able to take care of her but what happened in the future? If she’s going to continue on the track if modeling then she’s only going to be busier. So what is she going to quit to accommodate her grandmother well being? Her grandmother is going to need professional help in the long run. Doing all this by herself isn’t good.

She can take baby steps. When she had enough money, she can hire a day caretaker first while saving to move to a two bedroom unit. After they move to a two bedroom unit, she can hire a stay-in caretaker. After all, grandma is already old and ridden with many ailments. How much longer can she stay around? There’s only so much precious years remaining before she’d go for good and I’m sure Anning wouldn’t want to lose it.

I feel like Anning is anxious that grandma doesn’t have much time since she thinks her reincarnation is due to grandma giving up her life force

That’s also one of the reasons I’ve considered as Anning’s reason to be unwilling to separate with her grandma.

  3. NeonKing

I like that both sides have their reasons. The reactions are very in tune with their characters and backgrounds. I can see both sides of this argument. She can’t know if he is the same kind of Wen Yu as in her previous life, since the circumstances are different. Equalling both versions would be a bad idea. They are the same person, yes, but different experiences and different ages makes for different outcomes. His arguments are also valid, although a bit cold and more calculated. She depends heavily on her grandmother’s presence, but both she and her grandmother would benefit from separation from a practical viewpoint. I’m very impressed by the depth of this story and salute the author and translator.
