The Best Actress is the Darling of My Heart

Chapter 25 part 2

This chapter is for W.T. Thank you so much for supporting me in Kofi.

And why would Xia Hongye suddenly reveal this to her? Was it true? Or was she deliberately trying to strain their relationship?

She hid her hand on her back, concealing the trembling she couldn’t control.

She licked her lips, stared directly into Xia Hongye’s eyes, and sneered, “Do you think I’ll believe whatever you say? That would make me quite foolish.”

“Tch, believe it or not.” Xia Hongye’s attention returned to the TV screen, almost muttering to herself, “I don’t have any evidence, but Xia Yuansi did discuss this with me before. Anyway, I’ve told you. You can investigate the evidence yourself.”

Xia Shutong sat in place, tilting her head back to finish her drink, tossing the bottle into the trash can, and then slowly walking back upstairs.

After freshening up in her room, Xia Shutong lay down on her bed, rubbing her temples irritably.

“Actors, get ready, action!”

As Director Dai Su’s voice echoed, everyone on set immediately got into character, commencing another day of filming.

In the upcoming scene, portrayed by Bian Xin, Zhou Ling Xue confronts her roommates to seek justice for the bullied protagonist. However, Du Yuan accidentally overhears their argument from a corner, feeling guilty and unsure of how to intervene.

As the argument escalated dangerously close to violence, Du Yuan finally summoned the courage to rush out from her hiding spot, standing between Zhou Ling Xue and her antagonistic roommates.

Yet, her presence didn’t instill fear in them. Instead, it seemed to fuel their excitement, and one of them accidentally pushed her into a nearby construction pit.

Unsurprisingly, Du Yuan’s shin ended up fracturing, and her ordeal of school bullying became known to the school authorities.

However, the school, true to its predictable form, sided with her roommates, who outwardly appeared cheerful and positive, offering the justification that they were considering Du Yuan’s future.

Currently, they were filming a scene between Bian Xin and her roommates, while Yun Feiwu’s scene was scheduled next.

Seated by the monitor, Yun Feiwu stared down at the script, her eyes betraying an unusual hint of emotion beyond indifference, feeling a pang of sympathy for Du Yuan.

In Du Yuan, she saw traces of her childhood self and Xia Ruan.

Young Xia Ruan had been good, though she lacked education, she possessed a wealth of knowledge and wisdom, teaching Yun Feiwu many things.

But, except for Yun Feiwu, nobody saw the good in Xia Ruan.

To them, Xia Ruan was timid and weak, making her an easy target for bullying. Each time, Yun Feiwu stood in front of Xia Ruan, driving away those tormentors.

Yet, while Yun Feiwu could fend off Xia Ruan’s bullies, she was powerless against the adults. They not only ridiculed Xia Ruan for losing her mother but also gossiped about Yun Feiwu’s family, alleging her father’s infidelity and claiming she was raised by a stepmother. Even her schoolmates formed cliques to mock her.

At home, Yun Feiwu’s younger brother also bullied her. She could handle him, but she couldn’t stand up against her biased father and stepmother.

Though she and Xia Ruan had done nothing wrong, they seemed to be targeted by the world.

Back on set, Bian Xin was snapped back to reality by Director Dai Su’s irate voice, who yelled at her for daydreaming.

Yun Feiwu glanced towards the set, noticing Bian Xin’s heavy dark circles from a lack of sleep, probably due to staying up late the previous night.

Yun Feiwu vaguely recalled that Bian Xin used to act this way as a child too – zoning out when tired, a trait she displayed even on set. Yun Feiwu wondered what Bian Xin had been up to last night.

Seeing Director Dai Su storming towards the center of the set, Bian Xin hurriedly lowered her head, but her fingers were tightly clenched.

After a few more reprimands, Director Dai Su gave them some time to regroup before continuing the shoot.

Three attempts later, they finally succeeded without mishap.

The next scene depicted Du Yuan’s attempt to intervene, only to be pushed into a pit.

Checking the time, Director Dai Su realized it was nearly noon. He decided to let the actors rest and have lunch while the prop team made preparations for the afternoon session.

Director Dai Su was excitedly discussing something with Yun Feiwu, who remained her usual placid self. In Bian Xin’s eyes, this translated into Yun Feiwu being a sycophant.

Bian Xin scowled, then waited until Yun Feiwu had moved away before approaching Director Dai Su with a feigned smile, “Director Dai, are you going to have lunch?”

“Of course, why wouldn’t we have lunch at noon? We’ll continue filming this afternoon,” Director Dai Su’s tone turned noticeably chilly as he spoke to Bian Xin. His face also became more serious, “Xiao Bian, you have another scene with Yun Feiwu this afternoon. Finish your lunch and come back early. Focus on the set, and don’t let us down again.”

“Rest assured, Director Dai, it won’t happen again.” Bian Xin pressed her lips together, struggling to hide her simmering resentment.

Sure, she hadn’t been in the best shape this morning, but wasn’t it because Director Dai Su had kept her up all night discussing the script? She’d worn only a thin windbreaker over her pajamas while sitting in the corridor all night. Considering she didn’t catch a cold, she couldn’t believe he was blaming her for being distracted.

Anyone could see how Director Dai Su treated her differently from Yun Feiwu – fawning over the latter while being dismissive to her. Wasn’t he plainly favoring Yun Feiwu?
