Married to the Male Lead’s Hidden Rich Brother

Chapter 61

The bridesmaids and groomsmen were all roaring on the side, making Yan Wei even happier. He walked over to Zhou Qiaoqiao and then without hesitation, half-knelt down and extended a bundle of bright red roses prepared by Zhen Guoan to Zhou Qiaoqiao.

Each rose was like a flame, petals layered upon each other like the finest crimson agate. As passionate and exuberant as the current Zhou Qiaoqiao, she looked at the flowers and shyly reached out to take them.

They exchanged a glance and shared a knowing smile.

From their first meeting to their understanding of each other, to falling in love, every scene, every moment, they naturally came together. It turned out they had already experienced so much, so much together.

Yan Wei stood up and reached out to help Zhou Qiaoqiao up. She playfully smiled and extended her two feet—she was wearing a pair of flat crystal mosaic shoes on one foot, while the other foot was bare, the toes wiggling within transparent stockings.

A shadow crossed Yan Wei’s eyes. Qiaoqiao’s pregnant—three months along!

Bridesmaid Ren Qing grinned mischievously and said, “Comrades, let’s find the bride’s shoe!”

Yan Wei’s smile remained, and Zhen Guoan and his group only glanced around without frantically searching. Yan Wei surveyed the entire room with a single sweep, grasping the general location of the shoe.

Damn, it’s a stack of hundred yuan bills! Not just one yuan bills?

Advertisements

Suddenly, Xiong Yiwen understood what Zhou Qiaoqiao meant. Why did they have to hide the bride’s shoe after she opened the door?

It was to encourage them to exaggerate the amount!

Xiong Yiwen felt embarrassed again. This stack was worth ten thousand yuan, and there were two stacks. That’s twenty thousand yuan, and each cigarette was worth a thousand yuan. She felt like she had completely earned it back!

Finally, it was Liang Jiamin who understood Yan Wei’s position. Still, she didn’t dare to make an outrageous demand. She tentatively suggested, “No, no, let’s each add thirty thousand more, and we’ll pool fifty thousand. It’s much luckier this way!”

“Damn, you’re finally making an outrageous demand. This time it’s approved!” Zhen Guoan had been waiting for them to propose something! When Xiong Yiwen mentioned one thousand, it really put him in a tough spot; he hadn’t prepared a thousand-yuan red envelope!

In any case, one red envelope was ten thousand yuan, and with each person receiving one at the door, it was just right. He had already prepared for the one who guarded the bride’s room. Even if they demanded a hundred thousand, he could still provide it. However, the bride’s friends were quite polite; regardless of how much they asked for, he would give one envelope.

“If you’re not satisfied, I’ll add more. If you’re not satisfied, I’ll add more.” Nevertheless, the people guarding the bride’s room were still quite courteous and accepted just one envelope to open the door.

When Liang Jiamin made her proposal, Zhen Guoan felt, “Wow, finally someone is making an outrageous demand. Hurry up and deliver.” So, Zhen Guoan said, “How can we settle for fifty thousand? Let’s make it sixty thousand.”

Speaking of which, Yan Wei spent several hundred thousand to buy the crystal shoes back.

Alright, the bridesmaids in the room were all dumbfounded. What to do? They held six large red envelopes in their hands, with no intention of accompanying the bride. Their minds were now focused on saving money.

The people at the door were no different. Zhou Yingjie was directly stunned. Damn, is my son-in-law this wealthy?

Grandma Zhou’s hands trembled as she tried to say something, but she didn’t know what to say. In the end, all she managed was, “Why do their red envelopes have more money than ours?”

Advertisements

As Yan Wei and his group entered, they distributed red envelopes to everyone, including the children. At first, Grandma Zhou thought this groom had a good sense of propriety, even though their relationship with Zhou Qiaoqiao was not good. However, this groom followed the customs properly.

However, when one of her great-grandchildren opened a red envelope and found ten thousand yuan inside, Grandma Zhou trembled and thought that the customs in the groom’s hometown were truly extravagant!

Looking at the way he handed money to the bridesmaids now, well… this wasn’t just about being generous; this was a sign of real wealth, wasn’t it?

Regardless of how quiet the room was, Yan Wei paid no mind. His original intention was to give Zhou Qiaoqiao face, and he had done that sufficiently. Although this behavior made him feel like a nouveau riche, it didn’t matter. This straightforward action had the most direct intimidating effect on the people present.

Yan Wei took the shoes that Wu Xinxian handed over. He squatted down and gently grabbed Zhou Qiaoqiao’s foot. It felt so good in his hands. Yan Wei playfully pinched her foot, causing Zhou Qiaoqiao to burst into laughter.

He looked up at her, laughed too, and then helped her put on the shoes.

Yan Wei stood up and held Zhou Qiaoqiao’s hand, leading her out of the room. Lin Meisu awkwardly smiled at the newlyweds, and Yan Wei returned the gesture. He turned to Zhou Yingjie and said, “Dad, Qiaoqiao and I will offer you tea.”

Zhou Yingjie stared blankly at him for a moment, then exclaimed, “Ah!” and quickly sat down on the sofa. Lin Meisu didn’t follow him to sit; the complexities between her and Zhou Qiaoqiao couldn’t be explained in just a few words.

Besides, Lin Meisu felt she hadn’t treated Zhou Qiaoqiao well either.

Hence, she didn’t approach them to avoid any awkwardness. Instead, she turned and grabbed Zhou Xingxing, saying, “Where are you running off to?”

Zhou Xingxing smirked, and Lin Meisu said, “Hand over the money quickly.”

“You’re supposed to give me whatever you receive, right?” Zhou Xingxing clutched her six large red envelopes tightly.

Advertisements

Lin Meisu didn’t want to reason with her daughter. She scolded, “I’m saying, when you only received a thousand, how can you have sixty thousand? At such a young age, do you need a beating?”

Of course, this was a typical conversation between a mother and daughter.

Meanwhile, Zhou Yingjie sat on the sofa, and someone brought two cushions to place on the floor. Yan Wei and Zhou Qiaoqiao approached and knelt down. They received the tea offered by others.

Yan Wei held the tea cup and looked at Zhou Yingjie. He earnestly said, “Dad, Qiaoqiao and I offer you this tea. We wish you good health, happiness, and well-being.”

The camera faithfully recorded Yan Wei at this moment. His serious and responsible demeanor showed that he was a qualified groom.

Zhou Yingjie extended his hand, took a sip of the tea, then took Zhou Qiaoqiao’s cup and took a sip as well. He didn’t wait for Zhou Qiaoqiao to say anything; he knew she wouldn’t.

After drinking the tea, Zhou Yingjie placed the tea cups back on the living room table. He glanced at the two kneeling before him. In truth, among the three children, Zhou Qiaoqiao resembled him the most.

Her makeup, the way she had her hair styled, and her slightly pursed lips. Actually, she still had traces of her childhood. When they got along well, Zhou Qiaoqiao looked just like this.

Zhou Yingjie felt his eyes become a little moist. Marriage for a woman meant entering a new family and embarking on a new life.

He had met, known, and fallen in love with Bai Shulan, and their marriage was harmonious.

Back then, which young girl in the village didn’t envy Bai Shulan’s good fortune? People said that even if Bai Shulan had stayed in the city, she might not have found a man as good as Zhou Yingjie.

Zhou Yingjie had also been quite content. When they found out Bai Shulan was pregnant, both of them were delighted.

Advertisements

At that time, monthly pregnancy check-ups were not common. It wasn’t until Zhou Qiaoqiao had a difficult childbirth that they took her to the hospital.

When Zhou Qiaoqiao was born, she was just a tiny bundle. He had only seen her briefly when the doctor carried her to the nursery.

Look, that’s his and Shulan’s child, so adorable! Just a bit skinny, she should eat more in the future.

When he and Bai Shulan were discharged from the hospital, they couldn’t bring Zhou Qiaoqiao with them. However, their love for her never diminished.

Even though the intensive care unit was expensive, even in those times when many would secretly drown baby girls, he spent a lot of money and time to save his daughter! Despite her young age, he was distressed that she had to endure such pain.

Back then, he never cared about money.

When did things change?

The first time Zhou Qiaoqiao turned over, he and Bai Shulan were so excited they circled around her for half an hour.

When she sat up for the first time, he was nearly brought to tears with joy.

When she had teething and fever, he stayed up all night without sleep.

When she started walking while holding onto things, he faced career failures, but he was more concerned about her bumping into things.

During his poorest times, the three of them lived in a 20-square-meter rented apartment. A student desk in the hallway served as their kitchen. They ate the cheapest noodles but lived the happiest days.

Zhou Yingjie opened his mouth twice and almost couldn’t speak.

“Um.” Zhou Yingjie mumbled, then continued, “I used to look forward to her growing up, hoping that she would become sensible as she grew. But in the blink of an eye, she grew up, and from now on, she’s not just my child anymore.”

Seeing Zhou Qiaoqiao bow her head, he sighed and turned to Yan Wei, saying, “You are a good child. Starting today, you must take on responsibilities for this family. Marriage is a big responsibility, and there can be differences between reality and ideals. What can sustain a relationship to the end is not just the love between you, but the transformation into familial bonds. It’s not just about promises; it’s about tolerance, understanding, responsibility, and… giving.”

As he said this, the chattering in the living room gradually quieted down. Zhou Yingjie wiped his eyes with his chubby hands, and no one knew whether tears fell or not. He said, “Don’t be like me.”

Zhou Qiaoqiao suddenly looked up at him. Zhou Yingjie smiled bitterly and said, “Your work will get busy in the future, I know, but find time to come back often.”

This was the first time Zhou Yingjie admitted he was wrong, and no one knew the inner turmoil Zhou Qiaoqiao was experiencing.

Yan Wei nodded, “I will, I will take care of her and make her, make the child happy. Thank you, Dad, thank you for bringing her into the world, thank you for raising her.”

Zhou Yingjie handed each of them two red envelopes, thick bundles that indicated they were now giving 10,000 yuan each, as indicated by the change in the envelope’s thickness.

Yan Wei and Zhou Qiaoqiao accepted the red envelopes and handed them to Liang Jiamin, who was beside them. Liang Jiamin took them and put them into the shoulder bag she was carrying.

After receiving the red envelopes, Zhou Yingjie took out a solid gold ring and gave it to Yan Wei. Yan Wei took it, and Zhou Qiaoqiao helped him put it on. Then, Zhou Yingjie, struggling due to his obesity, got up and reached out to support both of them.

Other relatives also gathered around. Zhou Grandma prepared a gold necklace, not as bold as the thick one Zhou Yingjie prepared for Zhou Qiaoqiao, but more delicate. Fortunately, the pendant she chose was beautiful, suitable for wearing on various occasions.

Other uncles and aunts prepared gifts that were more typical – either small rings or bracelets. Soon, Zhou Qiaoqiao was adorned with a luxurious air.

The time had come. Yan Wei led Zhou Qiaoqiao away, followed by Zhou Yingjie. A crowd of people accompanied Zhou Qiaoqiao downstairs, and as they stepped outside, Zhou Yingjie opened a red umbrella he had prepared and held it over Zhou Qiaoqiao’s head.

From here to the wedding car, Zhou Yingjie had to escort her all the way. From now on, he would hand her over to another man.

Zhou Yingjie and Zhou Qiaoqiao walked out of the gate with an umbrella held over them, and at that very moment, firecrackers were set off. The deafening crackling of the firecrackers filled the air, and a line of red cars led by the wedding motorcade was waiting ahead.

Zhou Yingjie frowned as he looked at the line of cars. Oh no, they were all sports cars, and there’s more than ten of them. A crowd had gathered to watch in the community, and young people were taking out their phones to take photos and videos.

Zhou Yingjie was about to ask people to make way when he heard Zhou Qiaoqiao’s voice amidst the noisy firecrackers, “Noodles… taste really good.”

Zhou Yingjie turned his head, utterly puzzled, and looked at Zhou Qiaoqiao. However, Zhou Qiaoqiao was just looking ahead, walking forward with a silent expression.

But Zhou Yingjie knew, Zhou Qiaoqiao had just spoken.

Hearing that the bride had arrived, the crowd cleared a path, and the leading sports car was particularly impressive. Its bright red color wasn’t just youthful; it was also striking.

Among the onlookers, someone said, “This one is a Ferrari LaFerrari1It’s really called LeFerrari., a limited edition worldwide.”

Zhou Qiaoqiao looked up when she heard this, glancing at the man who spoke. He was a man in his 40s or 50s, and when he saw Zhou Yingjie, he even shouted at him, “Old Zhou, my son says your son-in-law’s car is worth 60 million!”

The crowd suddenly buzzed with conversation and discussion.

Zhou Yingjie’s expression became wooden, and he sighed, saying, “My son-in-law is indeed quite something.” Although I’m not sure what makes him so special?

The envious man glanced at Yan Wei, thinking to himself, “As expected, different. You see, among humans, some people radiate a distinct aura wherever they stand. The people around Yan Wei, and Yan Wei himself, stand out in that way.”

He was like the crane that stands out among the chickens, unique and eye-catching.

Yan Wei’s groomsman opened the car door, and Yan Wei helped Zhou Qiaoqiao get in first before turning to Liang Jiamin and saying, “You sit in the front passenger seat!”

Mao Liang was the driver, and Liang Jiamin happily agreed, carrying her bag and going to sit in the front passenger seat.

Yan Wei turned to Zhou Yingjie and asked, “Dad, would you like to come with us?”

Zhou Yingjie was momentarily taken aback, and Yan Wei smiled, saying, “Qiaoqiao and I are actually having a belated wedding ceremony, not a very formal one. The wedding is about having fun, as long as she’s happy. Besides, we’re all family, and it doesn’t matter where we host the celebration.”

Zhou Yingjie was taken aback for a moment, then thought about his mother and his wife. He eventually waved his hand, saying, “Forget it, I’ve booked a restaurant across the street. The invitations are also written for that restaurant. I have guests to attend to as well, so I won’t come over.”

Yan Wei smiled, not pushing further, and said, “If Dad wants to come over, you can contact me anytime. I’ve booked two restaurants there, and we have plenty of space. As for the invitation, you can give me the guest list, and I’ll notify them one by one.”

Zhou Yingjie smiled bitterly, shook his head, and said, “Qiaoqiao wouldn’t want to see me.”

Yan Wei gave a knowing smile and only said, “Is that so? Anyway, take a look for yourself. I’ll be on my way.”

Then he got into the car and left. Zhou Yingjie watched the convoy leave amidst the sound of firecrackers and suddenly burst into laughter.

In fact, if Yan Wei sincerely wanted to invite them, even if he asked just a day earlier, there would have been time. His decision today, at this moment, was simply because of a remark Zhou Qiaoqiao made on the way: “The noodles are delicious.”

It wasn’t about forgiveness or being magnanimous.

But that simple sentence was enough for Yan Wei to know that at least on this day, Zhou Qiaoqiao had let go of the past. As for what the future would hold, that was uncertain. Maybe they would leave behind their history, or maybe they wouldn’t meet again.

Watching the convoy depart, Zhou Yingjie turned back and said to Lin Meisu and the others, “Let’s go back up and get things in order. We still need to entertain guests across the street tonight.”

Lin Meisu smirked, thinking he was naive. He had just agreed directly, maybe he had just hitched a ride on Yan Wei’s boat.2She’s wrong, though. By declining Yan Wei’s offer to dine, he inevitably got some respect from the couple, which would warm them up to help the family in the future.

Even someone who knows nothing about cars could tell that Yan Wei’s wedding car, a sports car, was very expensive. Cars are consumables, their value drops after purchase. But if Yan Wei were to buy his wedding car and then resell it, he could make money even while lying down.

The sports cars behind Yan Wei were even more valuable; each one caught people’s attention.

Zhou Qiaoqiao got onto the sports car, touched the body, and asked him, “Yan Wei! How much did you spend on this car?”

Yan Wei said, “I’m getting married; I can’t just borrow a car, can I?”

Since wealthy people and regular people have different spending habits, Zhou Qiaoqiao didn’t strictly demand that Yan Wei follow her wishes. Yan Wei said irritably, “There was an even better model, a bit more expensive than this one, but it wasn’t red.”

Yan Wei clicked his tongue, clearly annoyed at the fact that he was satisfied with what he got, he had money, but you were out of stock.

Liang Jiamin, in the front passenger seat, helped Zhou Qiaoqiao count the red envelopes, then asked, “Qiaoqiao, did your aunt not give you a red envelope?”

Liang Jiamin looked and said, “I hope I didn’t lose it? If I did, I’ll reimburse you. I received 60,000 today. Hahaha…”

Zhou Qiaoqiao burst into laughter too, saying, “Hahaha…”

Yan Wei: “…”

Mao Liang: “…”

The car quickly arrived at the hotel Yan Wei had chosen, just across the street from the one Zhong Guoan had picked, Dao Xin. The two hotels were separated only by a road.

The convoy stopped in front of the hotel, and pedestrians passing by were all astonished, taking out their phones to take pictures.

Yan Wei opened the car door and stood gentlemanly beside the car, waiting for Zhou Qiaoqiao. Because it was cold, Zhou Qiaoqiao’s wedding dress was covered by a white mink coat that Yan Wei had prepared for her. It matched the dress quite well. The bridesmaids at the back quickly helped hold her long train, and the group entered the hotel this way.

The hotel had been reserved entirely for the occasion, and the entrance was adorned with wedding photos of Zhou Qiaoqiao and Yan Wei. Welcoming staff were stationed there all day, ensuring that every guest felt satisfied during the wedding.

The Bai family, including Bai Shuren and others, had already arrived, coming directly to the hotel according to the address. Reception and arrangements were made smoothly; rooms were assigned and keys handed out. Nothing needed to be paid, making everything very convenient.

At this time, Bai Shuren, Bai Shuyi, and Bai Shuya3Qiaoqiao’s mom’s siblings from the Bai family were already in the guest area on the first floor, sipping tea and chatting. They saw the convoy arriving outside.

Bai Shuren’s son, Bai Zhongjie, held his 2-year-old daughter, Bai Zihui, and called out, “Dad, they’re here.”

Then he exclaimed, “Wow, Dad, this convoy is really spectacular!”

Bai Shuren turned to look; he didn’t recognize cars much, so he simply saw a convoy of red wedding cars and nodded, saying, “It’s quite spectacular, red and festive, red is good, red is good.”

Bai Zhongjie said speechlessly, “No, Dad, I’m not saying it’s good because it’s red.”

Without Bai Zhongjie needing to explain, they saw many people coming out of the cars outside, attracting a crowd of onlookers. Bai Shuren and Bai Shuyi stood up to welcome Zhou Qiaoqiao when they saw her in her wedding dress. Coincidentally, they crossed paths with Yan Wei and his companions who were hugging Zhou Qiaoqiao as they entered.

“Congratulations, Qiaoqiao.” Bai Shuren smiled warmly and approached.

Zhou Qiaoqiao blushed and called him, “Uncle,” then she looked at the two people behind him and said, “Young uncle, young aunt.”

The three adults looked at Zhou Qiaoqiao with contentment. After all, they had watched her grow up. Now, as a girl who was getting married, they were even happier to see her with a good husband. After enduring so much hardship, their suffering finally paid off, and it could be considered this child’s good fortune.

Of course, the Bai family had also prepared gifts. In keeping with tradition, they presented gold, which was the most valuable choice. Bai Shuren, Bai Shuyi, and Bai Shuya had all prepared valuable gold jewelry for Zhou Qiaoqiao as her dowry.

After briefly staying in the lobby for a while, they had to hurry due to the auspicious timing, so Yan Wei led Zhou Qiaoqiao to their new room.

The hotel had prepared a room as the bride’s room. They chose the one Yan Wei had been using for a long time, which was the most luxurious presidential suite in the hotel.

Yan Wei supported Zhou Qiaoqiao into the elevator, and they went directly to the top floor. The top floor had a good view and spacious area. Most guests didn’t go up there, so it wouldn’t disturb the rest of the distinguished guests in the top-notch presidential suite.

Therefore, in most cases, the presidential suite was located on the top floor.

When Yan Wei brought Zhou Qiaoqiao over, the new room’s door was already closed, and Yan Wei looked helplessly at Zhen Guoan.

The ones who had closed the door were from Yan’s family. Fortunately, Yan Yifei had probably instructed them well, as they didn’t make exorbitant demands. In about ten minutes, the issue was settled, and the door was opened.

The size of the presidential suite was large enough to accommodate everyone present. Yan Wei’s parents, Yan Yifei and Mao Jinghua, had initially followed Yan Wei. They entered the room and saw it adorned festively by hotel staff. The bed was covered with a layer of rose petals, creating a very romantic atmosphere.

Yan Yifei looked at everything in the room with complex emotions, then followed Mao Jinghua to the chairs in the living room. Yan Wei brought Zhou Qiaoqiao over to offer them tea. It wasn’t clear if it was because the force Yan Wei displayed earlier was too overwhelming, but Yan Yifei hardly said a word throughout the process and simply handed them a red envelope with money. Mao Jinghua wanted to say more, but she didn’t know what to say. She could only offer a few instructions and then let them stand up.

Sansukini: I think Qiaoqiao and her dad fixed their relationship this chapter. All’s well that ends well. But Yan Wei’s family… nvm. Hahaha!
It baffles me though, are a lot of Chinese people familiar with luxury cars? Whenever I read a cnovel, it’s so often that you see the ostentatiousness followed by “Wow! A luxury car XXX, it’s limited edition”. As for me, I just know the brand but not the exact name of the car. Yea, poor people’s eyes do not reach the sky. Me, I’m just happy travelling with my made-in-China electric bike everyday.

Must be a mainland Chinese thing? I’m Chinese American, and don’t know my luxury cars or sports cars well 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe… Chinese people do like brands. But I’m not Chinese, I’m french so.
    Congratulations to our couple.
The fact that the dad realized how much he changed…. And admitted that he was wrong. I was surprise but happy for her.

  3. chronos5884

Honestly, I only recognize, oh, that one says bmw, that one says porche, or something, but I quite literally have to look at the logos and see what it says to recognize them. Hahaha. I don’t pay that much attention to cars other than a general brand, so I have no idea of their prices. I just know some brands are expensive brands and some aren’t. I’m glad ZQQ’s dad seems to have softened some and does genuinely care about her. The relationship doesn’t have to be fixed, but it’s okay if they can at least tolerate each other and have some quite peaceable moments I guess.
