I Eat My Own Jealousy chapter 37

Chapter 37

“Cough, Master Jian has arrived,” the steward, Abel, cleared his throat and walked over to Jian Ning, taking the bag from his hand. “Why did you bring something with you?”

Jian Ning bent down to pick up Tuan Tuan and took the bottle from Abel’s hand, asking softly, “Steward Grandfather, your leg was injured yesterday. Is it better today?”

“It’s not completely better yet. I spent half an hour in the medical cabin this morning, and I can barely stand now, but I can’t stand for long. I just couldn’t rest easy with the servants at home, so I wanted to personally check on Young Master,” Butler Abel bent down and patted his leg, then turned to Jian Ning for help. “Could Young Master Jian help me bring the wheelchair over?”

Jian Ning brought the wheelchair into the living room and then went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Abel, the steward, quickly had the servants assist him.

Smelling the aroma of bone soup coming from the kitchen, Abel, the steward, was deeply moved. What kind of virtue had their Young Master accumulated to have such a considerate partner as Young Master Jian?

Thinking this, he pushed the wheelchair slowly towards his room, intending to urge the Young Master to return quickly while Young Master Jian was still here.

The wheelchair moved slowly, and Abel, the steward, glanced at Jian Ning in the kitchen. Seeing that he wasn’t paying attention to the living room, Abel, with a swift motion, pushed the wheelchair back to his room.

Jian Ning stayed for dinner before taking Tuan Tuan back to the academy.

Zong Ye returned to the villa, and it was almost eleven o’clock. The villa’s servants had all gone to sleep. He was about to go upstairs when he noticed the light in the living room. Abel, the steward, sat silently at the dining table.

“Why aren’t you sleeping?” Zong Ye paused and walked over to the dining table where a meal was prepared for him.

After working all night at the military department and only eating a few bites, he was indeed hungry when he smelled the warm food on the table. Zong Ye sat down and began to eat.

“Is it delicious?” Abel, the steward, looked at him and asked softly.

Zong Ye took a sip of the bone soup and nodded, “It’s pretty good. Auntie didn’t come back, so who cooked dinner?” The taste seemed somewhat familiar.

Abel, the steward, replied, “Master Jian cooked it.”

Zong Ye paused with his chopsticks, “He came today?”

“Yes, he came to pick up Young Master and, in passing, cooked a meal for this injured old man,” Abel, the steward, glared at him. “I sent you so many messages to come back earlier. Why didn’t you respond?”

Zong Ye lowered his head and continued eating, “I was busy at the military department. I didn’t see them.”

After a moment, he added, “Don’t lie to him.”

“Why would I lie to Young Master Jian? Don’t you have any confidence in your heart?” Abel, the steward, huffed and stared at him, irritation evident. “Young Master, you can’t avoid Young Master Jian. You need to spend more time with him to cure your long-standing issues.”

Although Zong Ye didn’t believe that Jian Ning could be of any help to him, he was getting a headache from Abel’s nagging. He knew that if he didn’t give in, Abel would keep at it. So he surrendered, “I’ll come back earlier tomorrow.”

“Too late,” Abel, the steward, huffed and stood up. “Starting tomorrow, Young Master Jian will be busy, and he won’t come to pick up Young Master.”

“Well, if you’re not coming back tomorrow, no one will be here to look after you,” he added angrily before turning and heading to his own room.

Zong Ye thought to himself, “Is he being rejected? In this household, who is really in charge?”

As it turned out, Jian Ning did indeed become busier. He could only pick up Tuan Tuan at the academy gate at around six or seven each day. Abel, the steward, had suggested dropping Tuan Tuan off at the dormitory entrance to save him the trouble, but Jian Ning declined. He didn’t want his classmates to see him, and the shuttle bus from the academy gate to the dormitory was convenient enough.

One day, after finishing his experiments at the laboratory, Jian Ning rushed to the academy gate. The familiar hover car was parked not far from the entrance. He opened the car door and was surprised to find that, in addition to Abel, the steward, Zong Yue was also present.

Zong Yue was gently petting Tuan Tuan, who was resting on her lap. When she noticed Jian Ning, she smiled and said, “You’re here. Come on in.”

“Why is the Queen here?” Jian Ning asked in astonishment as he got into the car.

Zong Yue explained, “I happened to be coming home today, and I coincided with Abel, who was bringing Tuan Tuan. I thought I’d come to see you and bring you an invitation.”

As she spoke, Abel, the steward, handed Jian Ning an exquisite birthday party invitation.

Jian Ning took the invitation and said, “The Queen doesn’t need to bring the invitation in person. Professor Moor will take me there.”

“Is that so?” Zong Yue smiled upon hearing this. “In that case, you can give this invitation to one of your classmates. I’m afraid you might feel lonely at the party, so you can bring a friend along.”

“Really?” Jian Ning’s eyes widened in surprise. After some hesitation, he asked, “Can I have one more invitation? I’d like to bring another classmate.”

“No problem,” Zong Yue agreed readily. “I’ll have Abel, the steward, bring another invitation over tomorrow.”

“Master Jian, this is today’s dinner. It’s getting late, so please take Young Master back to the dormitory soon,” Abel, the steward, handed him a thermos box.

Knowing that Jian Ning was busy, Abel had been bringing dinner for him every day when he picked up Tuan Tuan from the academy. Jian Ning felt embarrassed at first but eventually accepted it when Abel insisted.

Jian Ning brought Tuan Tuan back to the dormitory and found Jenny there, complaining about something to Terry.

“Ning, you’ve brought Tuan Tuan back,” Jenny reached out to take Tuan Tuan from Jian Ning’s arms. She had quickly learned about Tuan Tuan’s existence after becoming acquainted with the two of them. Upon their first meeting, she exclaimed at how cute Tuan Tuan was and often cuddled the little furball.

“What are you guys talking about?” Jian Ning sat down at the dining table in the living room with the thermos box.

“What else can we talk about? We’re talking about Alan,” Terry sat down next to Jian Ning, leaning over to peek into the thermos box. “What’s for dinner today?”

Jian Ning opened the thermos box and pushed it to the center of the table. “Let’s eat together.”

Abel had prepared a lot of food for him, and he couldn’t finish it all by himself. He had been sharing it with Terry and Jenny for the past few days.

Jenny also sat down beside Jian Ning and complained, “That Alan, he somehow got an invitation to the Queen’s birthday party from somewhere and keeps flaunting it in class. It’s so annoying.”

Terry scoffed, “Oh, it’s just the Queen’s birthday party. What’s so special about it? I’m not even interested in going.”

Hearing this, Jian Ning took out the invitation and waved it in front of Terry, blinking teasingly. “You really don’t want to go?”

Terry took a look and his eyes widened, “Is this an invitation to the Queen’s birthday party?!”

Jian Ning smiled and nodded, saying, “It’s for you, come with me.”

“For me?” Terry couldn’t believe it. “Is this from Professor Moor? What about you?”

“It’s for you, just take it. I can get in,” Jian Ning replied. Then he turned to Jenny and said, “I have another invitation for you. You’ll get it tomorrow.”

“I can go too?” Jenny’s eyes widened in surprise.

The next day, both Terry and Jenny received their invitations. They still couldn’t believe it, feeling like they were in a dream. They were also puzzled about how Jian Ning had so many invitations.

Soon, it was the day of the Queen’s birthday party.
