I Eat My Own Jealousy

IEMOJ 43

Chapter 43

Last night, after talking to them, both Tuan Tuan and Fei Yu behaved much better. When Jian Ning brought them back, they stayed obediently in the room and didn’t run out.

Tuan Tuan was in the process of teething, so he would bite things randomly when he caught them. Jian Ning was checking the duvet, which had several holes from his bites. Fei Yu was flying around the window, and he flew over to Jian Ning and said, “Ning Ning, there are people outside watching our room.”

Jian Ning put down the duvet and asked in confusion, “Watching our room? What do you mean?”

Fei Yu explained, “It means someone is monitoring us. I detected three people outside the window downstairs every ten seconds. They would look up at our window. It’s reasonable to suspect that they are watching us.”

Why would they be monitoring him? Jian Ning frowned, walked to the window, and pretended to close it, scanning the area below. Sure enough, he found three people not far from the tree, glancing up at the building from time to time. One of them met his gaze and quickly averted their eyes nervously.

Pretending not to have noticed, Jian Ning closed the window. He was puzzled. He didn’t know those three people, so why would they be monitoring him? Did Fang Tian recognize him, and his stepmother sent them to watch him?

That thought was quickly dismissed. If Fang Tian had recognized him, his stepmother and father would have already approached him, and there would be no point in monitoring him. Besides, considering their current financial situation, they probably couldn’t afford to hire people for surveillance.

Fei Yu transformed, and Jian Ning placed Tuan Tuan on top of him. Tuan Tuan skillfully used his small paws to hold onto Fei Yu. With a swoosh of wings, they both disappeared from view.

Just as they finished hiding, Jian Ning heard a knock at the door of the living room.

Terry opened the door, thinking it might be Jenny coming to visit them so late. To his surprise, it was Allen and several teachers.

The lead teacher, Ruth, who was in charge of the disciplinary department, specialized in managing the academy’s rules and regulations and handling students’ violations. She pushed her glasses and, with a stern expression, said to Terry, “We received a report from a student, claiming that there are violations of school rules in your dormitory, specifically the unauthorized keeping of young animals.”

Terry was taken aback. Could Tuan Tuan have been discovered? Thinking that Tuan Tuan was currently in the room with Jian Ning, he quickly said, “Teacher, there must be some mistake. How could we possibly keep young animals in our dormitory?”

“Don’t say these things; it won’t help. Let the teacher inspect, and if nothing is found, you’ll be cleared of suspicion,” Allen sneered. He had already stationed someone below the window and had brought teachers for a surprise inspection, making sure to block all possible escape routes.

Teacher Ruth said, “Student, please allow us to enter.”

Terry had no choice but to reluctantly step aside, praying in his heart that Jian Ning had heard his earlier words and hidden Tuan Tuan.

“Where’s Jian Ning? What’s going on?” As soon as they entered, Allen looked at another closed door and asked.

As he spoke, the door opened, and Jian Ning came out, asking, “What happened?”

The other teachers had begun searching in the living room while Ruth, the lead teacher, stated, “We received a report that your dormitory is keeping young animals against school regulations. We’ve come to inspect.”

“Teacher, I think we should start with the bedrooms. I’ll help you search.” Allen, upon spotting Jian Ning’s room, couldn’t wait to enter and investigate.

They searched the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and both bedrooms, but found no trace of the young animals. They did find some pet toys in Jian Ning’s room, though.

“Darn it, they must have hidden them. Otherwise, why would there be pet toys here?” Allen confidently asserted.

Jian Ning explained, “These toys were meant to be given as gifts. Are we not even allowed to buy toys and keep them inside the dormitories if we can’t raise young animals?”

Fortunately, he had recently cleared out all the old toys, leaving only the new ones. They hadn’t been played with much lately because he had been spending so much time at Zong Ye’s house. This helped him appear nonchalant.

By the time Terry had opened the door to let them in, he had cleaned up all traces of Tuan Tuan in the room and bathroom, leaving only these toys behind.

Seeing Jian Ning unusually calm, Allen searched everywhere with frustration. Allen knew that Fang Tian couldn’t deceive him. Where on earth had Jian Ning hidden the young cub?

“Teachers, you’ve searched once already. Do we need to search again?” Now that he couldn’t find Tuan Tuan, Terry regained some confidence and began shouting loudly, “Who reported that we were keeping pets in our dormitory? Does he have any evidence? Without evidence, this must be someone trying to cause trouble for us.”

Teacher Ruth, displeased, gave Allen a critical look. It was Allen who had insisted that there were cubs being secretly kept in this dormitory based on what he claimed to have seen with his own eyes, leading him to bring the teachers for the search. However, no young animals had been found.

“It seems like the report was mistaken. I’ll impose some punishment on the student who reported this. Sorry for the disturbance; we’re leaving.” Having completed one search, there was no need for a second. Ruth signaled to the other teachers, and they left.

“Allen.” At the door, noticing that Allen hadn’t followed them, Ruth frowned.

Allen, seething with anger, glared at Jian Ning one last time before reluctantly joining the other teachers as they left.

Once they were gone, Terry quickly closed the door and let out a sigh of relief. “Finally, they’re gone. How did Allen find out about Tuan Tuan in our dormitory?”

“He must have seen it. Tuan Tuan sneaked out to play a few nights ago,” Jian Ning replied.

“How did he manage to see it? Thankfully, you hid Tuan Tuan in time,” Terry inquired with concern. “By the way, where did you hide Tuan Tuan? You didn’t hide him outside the window, did you? Now that it’s safe, bring him back quickly.”

Before Jian Ning could respond, Tuan Tuan darted out of Jian Ning’s room. Jian Ning calmed Terry down, urging him to go back to sleep, and then carried Tuan Tuan back to his room. Meanwhile, Fei Yu danced joyfully around him, seeking praise. “Jian Ning, Tuan Tuan wasn’t discovered, right? I did well, right?”

Jian Ning nodded and affectionately patted Fei Yu’s round body. “You did great. Thanks to you, Tuan Tuan wasn’t found.”

“Then, kiss me again!” Fei Yu used his wings to nudge Jian Ning’s fingers. Whenever he performed well, Jian Ning would kiss him, and he wanted that too.

Jian Ning cradled the round ball and didn’t hesitate to lean down and plant another kiss on it.

Fei Yu, blushing, wrapped his wings around his body and rolled around on the bed. Oh my, he had to go and show off in front of his master. Jian Ning surely had never kissed him voluntarily.
