The Daily Task of Preventing My Disciple from Turning to the Dark Side Chapter 14

Chapter 14

On Mu Chen’s chest, there was a black nine-petal lotus, imprinted on his fair skin like a tattoo. Gu Yunjue immediately recognized it: the Soul-Refining Demon Art, divided into nine levels. With each level completed, a lotus leaf would emerge until the formation of the ninth petal, achieving perfection!

Gu Yunjue placed his hand on the lotus flower, feeling the surging demonic energy within. A satisfied smile graced his face. He had initially thought he had failed, even though he had transferred his power into his master’s body. His master’s soul had still disappeared. Unexpectedly, this power had protected his master’s soul and traveled back a hundred years with him.

The demonic energy within the black lotus sensed Gu Yunjue’s presence and began to seep out gradually. Gu Yunjue’s eyes darkened, and he absorbed the leaked demonic energy, leaving only a trace to circulate within his own meridians. The demonic energy inside Mu Chen’s body sensed Gu Yunjue’s return and eagerly rushed towards him, as if welcoming its long-lost home.

Mu Chen opened his eyes, looking at the canopy in confusion. What had happened last night? He had fallen asleep? He could actually sleep? Feeling something warm snuggling up to him, Mu Chen instinctively raised his leg and kicked it away without hesitation. With a thud, Gu Yunjue, who was still sleeping, was kicked to the door, and his forehead hit the door, instantly waking him up.

Mu Chen had also fully awakened.

Without any time for remorse, Mu Chen appeared next to Gu Yunjue in an instant, lifting his frail disciple. He examined the large bruise on his disciple’s forehead.

Mu Chen opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say. He felt a bit guilty. Fortunately, he hadn’t used his spiritual power, or else his disciple might not have survived that kick.

Hearing the commotion, Jing Ting and Jing Ming rushed in first, followed closely by eight maids and eight Dao disciples. They all wore expressions of shock as they looked at the master and disciple squatting at the door, unsure of what had just happened.

“Master, you…” Gu Yunjue covered his head, not knowing what to say to Mu Chen anymore. If it weren’t for his demonic cultivation protecting him, even without using spiritual power, Mu Chen’s kick could have made him cough up blood.

Mu Chen’s face was cold. He placed Gu Yunjue on his bed, took out a healing ointment from the drawer, and gently applied it to Gu Yunjue’s forehead. As he watched the large bruise gradually fade, he couldn’t help but feel relieved. He had nearly kicked his well-behaved disciple to death, which would have been a great tragedy.

“Hmm?” Mu Chen’s gaze had been fixed on Gu Yunjue all this time, but now he noticed something unusual. “What did you do last night?”

Gu Yunjue blinked in confusion.

Mu Chen grabbed Gu Yunjue’s wrist, astonished. “Second level of Qi refinement? Peak!”

“So fast!” Jing Ming bounced in, inserted the Long Xiao into his waist, and circled around Gu Yunjue, praising, “Indeed, you are the disciple of the Palace Master. It’s only been a few days, and you’ve already reached the second level of Qi refinement. The Thunder Spirit Root genius from the same batch as you has only just started refining Qi into the body, and even the Sect Master praised him and rewarded him with many things.”

Mu Chen raised an eyebrow, rewards? He was familiar with that Thunder Spirit Root individual among his peers. Indeed, he had good innate talent, but his attitude and behavior left much to be desired. Mu Chen wondered if it was related to his spirit root, which had made him somewhat arrogant. Compared to his disciple, their difference was like a big spiritual mine.

“Jing Ting, fetch my Seven Treasures Gilded Pagoda.”

The Seven Treasures Gilded Pagoda, also known as the Seven Treasures Gilded King Pagoda, had seven levels and eight sides. It was made from seven treasures: gold, silver, crystal, glass, coral, agate, and chalcedony. Crafted into a “miniature pagoda,” it had been used to enshrine the relics of powerful cultivators. This rare middle-grade spiritual tool was said to help its owner avoid encountering inner demons during cultivation. If this treasure were displayed, it would undoubtedly attract the attention of beings from the immortal realm.

Mu Chen couldn’t recall who had exchanged it with him for elixirs or if it was obtained through an exchange between his master, Dan Yangzi, and someone else. In any case, it made for a nice decoration, and it had many small compartments inside, making it suitable for a child of Gu Yunjue’s age to play with.

“Palace Master,” Jing Ting wanted to offer some advice. Giving such a valuable item to a child might not be in the child’s best interest and could potentially invite envy and danger. Regardless of where you were, there were countless instances of people killing for treasures. Many geniuses had met unfortunate ends as a result. If Mu Chen wanted Gu Yunjue to grow up safely, it might be better to be more conservative in his upbringing. However, when he saw the way Mu Chen looked at Gu Yunjue, he felt that anything he said would be in vain. Mu Chen was not ignorant of these matters, and perhaps he was just carried away at the moment. He would reconsider later.

Mu Chen waved his hand, dismissing the attendants. Jing Ting reluctantly went to retrieve the pagoda, feeling an inexplicable sense of weariness. He had a feeling that trouble would follow.

Mu Chen, satisfied, patted Gu Yunjue’s head. He couldn’t help but marvel at the genius of his disciple, who had now chosen the path of righteousness.

Jing Ming looked around and realized he had no part in this. He wanted to leave and show off to his friends. His Palace Master had a discerning eye, and his disciple was undoubtedly a genius.

Mu Chen sensed this and raised his hand to press on the empty space, directly pinning Jing Ming to the ground. Although he had given them elixirs to hide their demonic aura, Chongyun Sect knew they were his people, but Mu Chen couldn’t guarantee that no one else would discover their true identities.

A Nascent Soul stage spiritual beast was a coveted treasure, and anyone would want to claim it as their own. Mu Chen had never bound them with a contract, as he had sensed that their backgrounds were not simple. He didn’t want to restrict them. In his previous life, if it weren’t for Jing Ming’s recklessness and exposure of his identity, they wouldn’t have attracted so much trouble.

Jing Ming looked back at Mu Chen with a resentful expression. How could he be so harsh?

Mu Chen, feeling helpless, pushed Gu Yunjue toward Jing Ming. “Take him with you later, but only to the Hanyang Palace. Don’t linger in other places.”

Gu Yunjue looked at Mu Chen with a confused expression once again.

Mu Chen gently patted Gu Yunjue’s head. Children needed to make friends, and he couldn’t be selfish and keep him by his side. Jing Ming was lively and outgoing, while Chu Qianshuang was straightforward. They were slightly older than Gu Yunjue and could take care of him. Gu Yunjue held the Seven Treasures Gilded Pagoda, and Jing Ming pulled him away. Mu Chen still had some concerns and told Jing Ting to check on them later and make sure they didn’t get into trouble.

As it turned out, Mu Chen’s concerns were justified.

Author’s Note: Irresponsible Mini theater:

Black Meow: “As an attacker who was nearly kicked to death by the little uke, do you have any thoughts?”

Gu Yunjue didn’t come up in one breath; he retreated!

Thank you so much. I'm not really that good with cultivation novels especially with pinyin honorifics. I get confused a lot of times because I'm into modern a lot. I'm trying hard though, and will definitely incorporate it from time to time. I thought I rather change it to english than mistranslate. LOL.

Ahhhh that's completely okay!! You're very right though, do what makes you most comfortable! It is much better to translate to English rather than mistranslating it ahah, that will be so much more confusing if the honorifics keep switching between English and Pinyin eheh. I don't mind at all, it still flows and reads amazingly so please keep it the honorifics in English if that's what you'd prefer! Can't wait for more updates! 😀

P.S. But I find it hard to believe that you're not good at cultivation novels, you seem to nail those difficult cultivation terms exceptionally well ahah. And the way you piece words together is just really well done. I would love you to monopolise cultivation novels since your translations are super amazing keke~ :')
