I’ll Share The Bed With You.

Chapter 65: You’re So Obedient

The atmosphere at the Shen family mansion was particularly tense tonight.

To prevent Shen Nian Nian from taking any extreme actions, Fan Yazhen finally made up her mind to let her bring the man home for a look. If he turned out to have good character, she would agree to their relationship. However, marriage was another matter—things had to be taken slowly. A daughter of the Shen family could not be married off so recklessly.

Father Shen Suoshan remained firm in his stance against this young man. He had looked into him and found out that during his university days, he had dated many girlfriends, and none had given him a good review. Worse yet, Shen Suoshan had even discovered that the man had once gotten a girl pregnant. She later went to a small clinic for an abortion, suffered severe bleeding, and became infertile for life.

How could Shen Suoshan ever allow his daughter to be with such a man?

However, his wife persuaded him that meeting the man was just a delaying tactic. At the very least, they could keep their daughter under control and prevent her from doing anything drastic. It would also serve as a warning to the man, making it clear that he was not allowed to mistreat Shen Nian Nian.

So, Shen Suoshan reluctantly agreed to meet him.

Wen Yang rented an expensive suit, tied his tie meticulously, and even wore a second-hand luxury watch. Carrying gifts, he arrived at the Shen family mansion, putting on a proper and well-mannered appearance.

“Xiao Wen, you’re here. Come in,” Fan Yazhen greeted him politely.

For the rest of dinner, conversation dwindled. Everyone ate in silence.

After the meal, Shen Suoshan returned to his study, while Shen Chuyan accompanied their mother on a walk.

Shen Nian Nian walked Wen Yang out. Once they were some distance from the Shen mansion, she finally spoke. “You saw it yourself. My parents don’t approve of you. They don’t think you’re good enough for me.”

Having suffered humiliation at the Shen household, Wen Yang was already fuming. Hearing Shen Nian Nian’s mocking tone, his temper flared, and he slapped her across the face.

“If they don’t approve, then you need to make them approve! Otherwise, if I go down, you’re coming down with me too!”

Shen Nian Nian clutched her face, her eyes brimming with tears. “You dare hit me…”

Wen Yang grabbed her hair and pulled her close, whispering menacingly into her ear, “We still have a long road ahead. As long as you behave, I’ll let you keep being the precious daughter of the Shen family. But if you don’t listen to me… well, what if I accidentally let slip to your parents about what really happened all those years ago? If they found out that the daughter they raised for over a decade had been lying to them all along… how do you think they’d react?”

Shen Nian Nian was on the verge of an emotional breakdown. Sobbing uncontrollably, she pleaded, “Please… please don’t say anything. I’ll do whatever you want!”

Wen Yang shoved her aside and stormed off.

Not far away, by the tree-lined path, Shen Chuyan stood watching his sister from a distance, his brows tightly furrowed.

Just now, he had seen Wen Yang mistreat her and was about to step in, but their conversation made him freeze in place.

So, Shen Nian Nian really was hiding something!

The Shang family had strict household rules—discipline was everything. Talking was not allowed during meals or bedtime, and loud noises were forbidden at home.

As the head of the family, Shang Jie prided himself on self-discipline and would never allow disorder in his household.

But ever since Jiang Xingxing moved in, his rules had basically become useless. Although Shang Jie still tried to enforce them from time to time, scolding her when necessary, his control was slipping.

During dinner, Jiang Xingxing was busy chatting in a group chat with her drama crew, discussing the scenes for tomorrow. The storyline was reaching the climax of the power struggle, and the large-scale battle scene would not be shot using CGI—it would be filmed with real weapons and sets. Everyone in the crew was excited.

She ate while looking at her phone, occasionally sending messages back and forth with a bright smile on her lips. Her expression was sweet and captivating.

Shang Jie glanced at her screen—her chat was filled with stickers and emojis.

Hmph. Childish.

Jiang Xingxing shifted slightly, and Shang Jie immediately looked away, pretending to focus on his meal as if nothing had happened.

He placed a piece of beef in her bowl, but Jiang Xingxing didn’t eat it. She continued playing on her phone, only taking a few bites from her full bowl of rice.

Shang Jie knocked on her bowl, signaling that she was overdoing it.

Jiang Xingxing ignored him.

Shang Jie glanced at the servants standing nearby. Feeling that his authority as the head of the household was slipping, he said in a deep voice, “Eat properly first. You can look at your phone after you’re done.”

“Oh.”

Advertisements

Jiang Xingxing still couldn’t pull her gaze away from the screen.

Shang Jie was starting to get annoyed. He reached for her phone, but she turned her back to him and mumbled, “Don’t mess around. I’m talking about something important.”

Shang Jie glanced at the servants again. He felt that if he let this slide today, he’d lose control over his household in the future.

He placed his chopsticks on the table, his face darkening as he said coldly, “Put down your phone right now and eat properly.”

She ignored him.

“Jiang Xingxing!”

Still, no response.

Shang Jie slammed his chopsticks on the table, raising his voice. “Did you hear me?!”

Jiang Xingxing suddenly turned around, cupped his face, and planted a soft kiss on his cheek. “I really am talking about something important. Be good, don’t make a fuss.”

She even patted his head gently as if to soothe him.

Shang Jie: …

The servants stole glances at them. They had expected the master of the house to explode in fury and enforce discipline, but instead, after a half-minute of silence, Shang Jie, utterly defeated, placed another piece of meat in his wife’s bowl and grumbled, “Eat while it’s still hot. The food’s getting cold.”

The servants covered their mouths, suppressing their laughter. Their gazes confirmed—yes, this was absolutely a first love scenario.

Shang Jie shot them a glare, and they immediately fell silent, returning to their tasks.

Jiang Xingxing finally put down her phone, picked up her chopsticks, and began eating heartily. Shang Jie continued placing food into her bowl, muttering, “I’ve spoiled you too much.”

Jiang Xingxing just kept smiling at him, sweet as honey, making his heart feel like it had been steeped in sugar.

“This won’t happen again,” he warned.

But in Jiang Xingxing’s world, Shang Jie’s “this won’t happen again” never really took effect.

That night, Shang Jie walked into the room with a report in hand. Jiang Xingxing was sitting on the bed, studying her script. Without warning, he picked her up and placed her on his desk as if she were a child.

Jiang Xingxing blinked at him in confusion. “What are you doing?”

Shang Jie sat down and resumed reading his report. “Just sit there.”

Jiang Xingxing: …

Was he treating her like a little kitten or a decorative vase?

Shang Jie took out a pen and made notes on the report. His deep brown eyes remained calm and focused, his expression serious.

Jiang Xingxing liked watching him work. He exuded a quiet, steady strength that made her feel at ease. Sitting beside him, she found herself settling down, concentrating on her script.

Half an hour later, a sudden sharp pain pricked her mind. Strange, fragmented images flashed through her head, and she frowned.

Shang Jie noticed something was off. “What’s wrong?”

Jiang Xingxing shook her head. “Nothing. I just suddenly remembered… something.”

“Hm?”

She furrowed her brows. “I think I saw…”

Mom and Dad.

In her mind’s eye, a woman smiled at her, and a man lifted her onto his shoulders. They looked so kind, so warm.

But when she tried to focus, the images slipped away, like sand falling through her fingers before she could grasp it.

“What did you see?” Shang Jie asked gently.

She didn’t know anymore. She couldn’t even clearly see their faces. But from their smiles, she could feel how much they loved her.

“They wouldn’t abandon me.” Jiang Xingxing grasped Shang Jie’s hand. “I can feel it. They loved me very much.”

Shang Jie set his report aside and turned his hand over to clasp hers tightly. “You’re so sweet. No one would bear to let you go.”

Jiang Xingxing nodded obediently.

Shang Jie picked her up and carried her toward the bed. She instinctively wrapped her legs around his lean waist.

He placed her down and rubbed her face with his large hands, making her yelp, “You—ugh, you rascal…”

Shang Jie’s brows relaxed, and he let out a small smile. “If you’re tired, go to sleep.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll read a bit longer. I can’t leave today’s work for tomorrow.”

Jiang Xingxing nodded and pulled the blanket up, covering her mouth, leaving only her bright black eyes visible. She blinked at him, filled with affection.

Shang Jie glanced at his desk, then back at her. After a brief hesitation, he reached out, turned off the light, and climbed into bed.

“…Fine, you win.”

A few days later, Jiang Xingxing followed the address she had found and arrived at the home of Qin Zaolin, a man claiming to be her uncle.

He lived in a remote county on the outskirts of Jiangcheng. Even with no traffic, it had taken an hour to drive there.

Finally, the car stopped in front of a three-story apartment building.

The building was old, its walls covered in layers of faded graffiti from children scribbling over the years. The overlapping marks made it look chaotic and dirty.

The air was thick with the musty scent of damp, aged walls.

Shen Chuyan had accompanied Jiang Xingxing as a friend.

“Why didn’t you tell Shang Jie?”

“If I told him, he’d definitely send people to investigate. I don’t think it’s necessary. No matter the outcome, it doesn’t matter. The only family I have in this world is my grandma, my brother, and Shang Jie. No one else.”

For some reason, Shen Chuyan felt a pang of sadness at her words. “You still have me, your best friend.”

“Of course.” Jiang Xingxing smiled and patted his shoulder. “You’ve taken better care of me than my brother these past six months. Thank you.”

“Come on, let’s go up.”

“Mm.”

They followed the address to the third floor. From a distance, they could already hear the sound of a child crying and a couple arguing.

As they got closer, they realized the crying was coming from inside Qin Zaolin’s home.

“You little brat! I told you not to touch things! They invited you for a meal out of kindness, and you went and broke their vase! Made me lose hundreds! I’ll beat you to death! You useless thing!”

“Oh dear, what’s the point of hitting the child! You’re useless yourself, can’t earn much money, and have terrible luck in gambling. You lost all the compensation money, and now you’re taking your anger out on the child. If you have the guts, go find your niece! She’s a big star now—go ask her for money. Thousands, tens of thousands, just name it! I heard these celebrities are loaded!”

“She doesn’t even acknowledge us.”

Tang Meifen cried out, “For heaven’s sake, you’re her biological uncle! You share the same blood—she can’t deny that! Her dad died young, and her mom ran off. We’re her real family now, practically her parents! We’re counting on her to take care of us in our old age. And her money—everything she earns in the future should be ours!”

Jiang Xingxing: …

She glanced at Shen Chuyan, suddenly feeling reluctant to enter.

Shen Chuyan was the one who knocked first. “Excuse us.”

When Tang Meifen and Qin Zaolin saw that their visitor was Jiang Xingxing, their attitude changed instantly. They put on warm smiles and said cheerfully, “Oh my, our dear niece is here! Why didn’t you tell us in advance? Look at this mess—come in, come in, have a seat!”

Jiang Xingxing was ushered in with excessive enthusiasm. The house was a mess, with children’s schoolbooks scattered across the table, and a strange odor lingering in the air.

“A Big Star! A Big Star!” Their son, Lele, stood on the sofa, waving his arms excitedly as he pointed at Shen Chuyan. “A big star is in our house! A big star!”

“Get back to your room!” Qin Zaolin kicked the child and locked him inside.

Tang Meifen picked up a fruit knife and started peeling a pear for Jiang Xingxing, saying eagerly, “Niece, what brings you here today?”

Jiang Xingxing replied coldly, “I came to tell you this—if you cause trouble at my workplace again, I will call the police immediately.”

Tang Meifen’s smile faded. “Now, niece, don’t say that. We wouldn’t come to you if we didn’t have a reason. Do you think we enjoy being treated like stray dogs and chased away? Be reasonable.”

“What do you want from me?”

“It’s about your little brother’s school. He’s moving up to middle school this year, and we were thinking—you’re a big star now, you have to help him get into the best school in the city.”

“How about this,” Shen Chuyan interrupted, “I’ll be blunt. Let’s not even debate whether you’re actually related to Xingxing. Even if you are, she has no obligation or responsibility toward you. Do you understand? Even if you were her biological parents, legally, she has nothing to do with you anymore. And you’re not even her parents.”

Tang Meifen was immediately displeased. “Hey, hey, young man, watch your mouth! We are her uncle and aunt—how can we not be related? Xiaoli, we finally found you, don’t think you can escape your responsibilities! You have an obligation to take care of us in our old age!”

“My name is not Qin Xiaoli,” Jiang Xingxing took a deep breath, regaining her composure. She said firmly, “From the day my parents abandoned me, I have had no connection with them. I have my own family now.”

“You just don’t want to admit it!” Qin Zaolin became agitated. “I still have photos of you as a child! I’ll show you—proof! You can’t deny it!”

“Lele’s dad, bring it out for her to see!”

Qin Zaolin retrieved an old, yellowed photograph from a cabinet and handed it to Jiang Xingxing. “Look, this is you when you were little.”

In the photo, a short-haired girl stood stiffly in front of the camera, staring at the lens with a look of resentment and disdain.

Shen Chuyan asked, “Well? Is it you?”

Jiang Xingxing shook her head. “I have no memory of this at all.”

After all, the girl in the photo looked only about six or seven years old. Memories from that long ago were difficult to recall in full detail.

“Let me see if it looks like you.”

Jiang Xingxing handed the photo to Shen Chuyan. The moment he took it, his hand suddenly froze.

The photo slipped from his fingers and fell to the ground.

Shen Chuyan stared at the girl in the picture, stunned. He couldn’t recover for a long time.

This girl… looked exactly like Shen Nian Nian when she was little!

Shen Chuyan returned home in a daze, feeling lightheaded. The house was brightly lit, and his parents, Shen Sushan and Fan Yazhen, were both there. So was Shen Nian Nian.

Shen Nian Nian held her mother’s hand and said, “Dad, Mom, I know I used to be too willful and hurt you both. But I’ve grown up now. I won’t throw tantrums anymore. I hope you can forgive my past mistakes.”

Fan Yazhen looked at her with relief. “Is that really from your heart?”

“Of course! I truly know I was wrong before.”

She was their biological daughter—no matter how spoiled and unruly she had been, the bond of blood was unbreakable. Fan Yazhen stroked her head, eyes turning red. “Nian Nian has finally grown up and learned to understand her parents.”

“It’s all thanks to Wen Yang,” Shen Nian Nian said sweetly. “He told me that Mom and Dad are getting older. If I don’t grow up now, who will take care of you in the future?”

Fan Yazhen asked, “Did he really say that?”

“Of course! He told me I can’t always act like a spoiled princess. I need to be responsible and consider others’ feelings, or else I’ll never truly grow up.”

“Looks like I misjudged him before. He seems like a good boy.”

Shen Sushan snorted. “That brat doesn’t even have his own life figured out, and he’s teaching you how to behave? Ridiculous.”

“Dad, I know you don’t like him. But no matter how outstanding a boyfriend I bring home, you’ll never approve. It’s like raising a precious cabbage only to have it eaten by a pig—how could you ever like the pig?” Shen Nian Nian sat beside her father, hugging his arm. “Dad, I know you love me, but I promise you, Wen Yang is really a good man. He’s mature, responsible, and treats me so well, truly!”

Shen Sushan grumbled, “Don’t think a few sweet words will change my mind about him.”

“Dad, why are you so stubborn?”

Fan Yazhen quickly took Shen Nian Nian’s hand and said, “Don’t blame your dad. He’s only being strict because he loves you. Anyway, you two can keep dating for now, but let’s talk about marriage later.”

“Mom, I really want to marry him. I’ll be twenty-four soon!”

“By the way, your birthday is in just half a month. Have you decided how to celebrate?” Fan Yazhen quickly changed the subject.

Shen Nian Nian beamed. “I want to invite all our relatives, friends, and my colleagues to our house. I’ll dress up like a princess, and everyone will celebrate with me!”

“You dress like a princess every year on your birthday,” Fan Yazhen teased, tapping her nose affectionately. “But of course, you are our little princess.”

“Mom, this year, I want the grandest celebration yet! Bigger than any year before! I want to invite celebrities and reporters so the whole city knows it’s my birthday!”

“That’s too much,” Shen Sushan objected. “Don’t be so flashy.”

“Mom, I want it! It’s just one birthday a year—can’t Dad grant me this small wish?” Shen Nian Nian pouted, clinging to her mother. “Brother has so many celebrity friends—if he asks, they’ll come!”

As they spoke, Shen Chuyan had already entered the house and changed his shoes. But he was too distracted to stay and quickly ran upstairs.

Shen Sushan called after him. “Why the rush? No greeting for your parents?”

Shen Chuyan took a deep breath, steadied himself, and said, “Dad, Mom, I’m home.”

“Come here, dear,” Fan Yazhen said warmly. “Let’s talk about your sister’s birthday while I peel an apple for you.”

“Mom, I’m really sleepy. I want to go back to my room and sleep.”

The award-winning actor let out a yawn without using any technique, and exhaustion immediately spread across his face.

“Oh dear, filming must have really worn you out these days. Go and get some rest,” Fan Yazhen said, full of concern. “It’s really too hard on you. If I had known, I wouldn’t have let you become an actor.”

“Mom, I have to disagree with you on that. Acting is my brother’s passion, you shouldn’t interfere.”

“Oh? This little girl is actually standing up for her brother now?”

“Because my brother dotes on me.”

Shen Chuyan gently closed his bedroom door. With a soft ‘click’, he locked it.

The warm and lively chatter of his family was cut off by the thick door. Shen Chuyan reached into his bag and pulled out a so-called childhood photo of Jiang Xingxing. At first, Qin Zaolin had refused to let him take it, but when Shen Chuyan took out a red banknote from his bag, Qin Zaolin changed his mind.

Five hundred yuan—that was the price he paid for this yellowed old photo.

Then, he rushed over to the wall cabinet next to the bookshelf, rummaging through old photo albums until he found several childhood photos of Shen Nian Nian.

Shen Chuyan laid all the pictures out on the table—some taken before Shen Nian Nian was kidnapped, and some taken after she was rescued.

He held up the childhood photo of “Jiang Xingxing” and carefully compared it to the photos of Shen Nian Nian, one by one. The more he looked, the heavier his heart felt.

A strange, creeping fear rose within him, and a chill spread through his veins, making him shiver involuntarily.
The girl in the photo from Qin Zaolin’s house was identical to the girl in the post-kidnapping pictures of Shen Nian Nian—there was almost no difference at all.

But when he compared the pre-kidnapping photos of Shen Nian Nian with the others, he noticed something peculiar. While the two girls looked strikingly similar—so much so that one might think they were the same person at a glance—on closer inspection, there was something different in their eyes, in their expressions.

Could it be that the girl the police brought back after the kidnapping… wasn’t actually Shen Nian Nian?

Shen Chuyan suddenly thought of the movie Lies of the Loess, where a dramatic case of identity swapping took place. Could something similar have happened in his own family?

The idea was both ironic and absurd.

Maybe it was all just his imagination. Maybe… it was just a coincidence.

“It must be a coincidence.” He muttered to himself, trying to reassure himself. The thought that the little sister he had cherished for more than ten years might not actually be his real sister was too much to accept.

He stared at the photos on the table, sitting in silence for two whole hours. He forced himself to go through his thoughts logically, to stay calm—he had to stay calm.

He couldn’t just jump to conclusions based on a hunch. He needed evidence.

He pulled out his phone and called his friend Li Lin, who worked as a police officer.

“Linzi.”

“Chuyan? What’s up? How come you’re calling me at this hour?”

“I need your help with something.”

“Knew it. A busy guy like you wouldn’t call unless you needed something. What’s up? When are we getting together? My wife has been bugging me for your autograph.”

“I’ll treat you to dinner sometime, but right now, I really need your help.”

“Alright, alright. We’re brothers, no need to be so formal. What do you need? You were my best man at my wedding—I’ve got your back.”

“I need you to look into someone for me. Qin Zaolin. The ‘Zaolin’ in his name means afforestation. I heard his family lost a child more than ten years ago. Can you check the details for me?”

“Got it. If they reported it, there’ll be a record. Shouldn’t be hard to find. I’ll get back to you in a few days.”

“Thanks, Linzi.”

“Don’t mention it.”

After hanging up, Shen Chuyan walked to the balcony, staring into the endless night, his mind adrift.

Nian Nian, where are you?

From downstairs, Shen Nian Nian’s sharp voice scolding the servants rang out again.

Nowhere in this house could ever be truly peaceful.

Dragging his feet, Shen Chuyan opened the door and went downstairs.

“Mom and Dad are already asleep. What are you all arguing about?”

A group of servants had gathered around Shen Nian Nian. One of them turned to him and said, “Young Master, Miss just insisted on cooking for you herself. But when she was cutting potatoes, she accidentally cut her hand, and now it’s bleeding.”

Shen Chuyan quickly walked over to check her injury. The cut wasn’t deep, but blood had dripped all over the floor, making the scene look quite gruesome.

“I’m so clumsy,” Shen Nian Nian said with a pout, looking at Shen Chuyan with teary eyes. “I can’t even do something this simple.”

Shen Chuyan took the disinfectant and bandages handed to him by a servant and pulled Shen Nian Nian over to the sofa. With a weary sigh, he said, “Just let the staff handle these things.”

“I wanted to cook for you myself,” she murmured. “I know I’ve made a lot of trouble for you lately. I’ve made you unhappy. It’s my fault, and I wanted to make it up to you.”

Shen Chuyan carefully bandaged her wound, frowning slightly as he studied her face.

He had watched this girl grow up. If she really wasn’t his sister… he didn’t know if he could accept that. All these years of love and care—had they been misplaced?

“You don’t need to make it up to me. I’m your brother. I should be more tolerant of you.”

Shen Nian Nian was visibly touched. Her eyes turned red, and as if she had been holding back her emotions for too long, she suddenly started sobbing.

“You’ll always be the best brother in the world to me.”

“Don’t cry, or you’ll wake up Mom and Dad.” He handed her a tissue and wiped away her tears.

“Okay!” She nodded vigorously, then looked at him with pleading eyes. “Brother, for my 24th birthday, can you invite more of your celebrity friends to celebrate with me?”

“That’s not impossible,” Shen Chuyan sighed. “But are you sure you want to make such a big deal out of it?”

“Yes! I’m the daughter of the Shen family. I deserve the best. I want every girl in the city to envy me.”

Shen Chuyan never minded her vanity. If she was truly his sister, he would naturally indulge her every wish.

“Go to sleep now. I’ll ask my friends. If they’re willing to come, I’ll send them invitations.”

“Thank you, brother! You’re the best!”

Shen Nian Nian threw her arms around him in a fragrant, sweet embrace before happily skipping upstairs.

But the warmth in Shen Chuyan’s smile gradually faded.

He turned and saw the maid cleaning up the bloodstains on the floor.

His gaze shifted to the crumpled tissue Shen Nian Nian had used to wipe her wound, now stained with crimson.

Glancing around to make sure no one was watching, he swiftly picked up the blood-stained tissue and slipped it into his bag before heading back to his room.
