Red walls, green willows, and glazed tiles, outside the Zhongsi Gate.
Jiang Xingxing held the newly woven brocade clothes in her hands, slowly making her way along the palace wall. If one looked closely, they would notice that the brocade in the tray was trembling slightly.
She kept her head down, her eyes wide open, staring intently at the embroidery on her shoes.
Step by step by step… She walked cautiously, as if treading on a tightrope, where the slightest misstep would plunge her into an abyss, from which there would be no return.
Beside her, a noble consort in luxurious attire was having a secret rendezvous.
The person she was meeting with was none other than the powerful chief eunuch of the Eastern Bureau.
Now, palace maid Jiang Xingxing had stumbled upon their affair.
She continued along her path, carefully carrying the tray, her head lowered, very low.

“You acted well, too well! But you stole the spotlight from the lead actress!” The director was so angry he almost blew his beard off. “You’re just passing by, so just walk, why are you stealing the scene?”
“But director, the palace maid just discovered the affair between the consort and the eunuch. She knows she won’t survive, so fear should be her natural reaction.”
“You can be scared, but you were way too damn scared!”
“Director, do you think I overacted? I can tone it down a bit.”
Jiang Xingxing’s pale lips began to tremble, and her dark eyes darted around quickly, like a frightened bird, frantically trying to avoid danger.
Her expressions were rich, and she effortlessly conveyed fear without being overly dramatic, hitting just the right note.
The director, however, impatiently interrupted her, “Stop, stop, stop. You’re acting so well, how about we make you the lead actress, huh?”
Jiang Xingxing’s eyes lit up. “Sure!”
“Sure, my foot! Go get your boxed lunch and get out!”
…
Jiang Xingxing changed out of her costume, removed her makeup, and went to the logistics department to collect her lunch for the day. She walked out of the film studio, feeling dejected.
From a distance, she overheard a few extras dressed as palace maids gossiping about her—
“Overestimating herself, does she really think she’s the lead actress?”
“She’s always showing off whenever she’s on camera, does she really think she has a chance to play the female lead?”
“To be honest, her acting is really good, but unfortunately… she’ll never be the lead, right?”
“Yeah, with such a big scar on her face, which production would cast her as the lead?”
“She’d be better off playing Harry Potter.”
“Hahaha, yeah right.”
…
Jiang Xingxing took out a small mirror and looked at her face. The girl in the reflection had a delicate and charming appearance, with bright, almond-shaped eyes that were captivating. Her skin was as fair as snow, but it was precisely because her skin was so pale that the faint pink scar on the upper left corner of her forehead stood out starkly.
The scar was about the size of a five-cent coin, shaped like a crescent moon.
If the scar had been elsewhere, it might have been fine, but it was on her face, which meant her appearance was ruined.
Jiang Xingxing sighed, let down her bangs, and carefully covered the small crescent-shaped scar. Just as she was about to take a step, she heard the sharp screech of brakes. A black car nearly hit her.
Her lunchbox flew out of her hands, spilling directly onto the black car opposite her, and causing her to fall down.
The car’s logo was just half a meter away from her, almost blinding her—
It was a Rolls-Royce.
And on that logo, there was a slice of twice-cooked pork from her lunchbox, still steaming.
Jiang Xingxing couldn’t help but shiver. She was doomed.
The cleaning fee would cost a fortune! She couldn’t even afford another lunchbox right now!
At that moment, the door of the Rolls-Royce opened, and a man in a suit stepped out. He looked at Jiang Xingxing, who was sitting on the ground, and asked, “Are you okay?”
Jiang Xingxing looked up, her face covered in sweat, and her eyes filled with tears. “It hurts, it really hurts…”
The driver frowned, looking a bit nervous. “Where does it hurt?”
“My whole body hurts, I might have injured my internal organs.”
Jiang Xingxing clutched her stomach, her mouth twitching, her face pale.
“I’ll take you to the hospital!”
“No, it’s okay, sir. It’s my fault, I wasn’t watching where I was going and ran into you. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine on my own.”
The driver hesitated, unsure of what to do, and then turned towards the back seat of the car, nervously saying, “Young master, I… I hit someone.”
Jiang Xingxing keenly felt a sharp gaze coming from behind the black car window, making her instinctively feel guilty.
“She’s acting.”
The voice was deep and rich, full of a stable and solid presence, calm and composed, like ice that had never thawed.
Jiang Xingxing shivered.
She decided to add more drama, and the tear that had been lingering at the corner of her eye finally rolled down, controlled perfectly, like a bullied young girl, helpless and pitiful.
The driver felt guilty and started to sweat. “Young master, she seems to be in a lot of pain.”
“She’s acting,” the man inside the car murmured softly. “Let’s go.”
Jiang Xingxing dropped her act and looked up in shock. She hadn’t expected the man to see through her performance so easily—he was too sharp!
She had years of experience in stage plays and believed herself to be a skilled actress.
At that moment, the car window rolled down a few centimeters, just enough for her to see the man’s eyes inside the car.
Those black eyes held a certain coldness, reminiscent of a lone wolf wandering the wilderness.
“Put some ointment on that wound, don’t let it leave a scar.” His tone was flat, as if he were talking about something unrelated to him—
“Every inch of an actor’s skin should be well taken care of.”
It was only then that Jiang Xingxing noticed the wound on her wrist, probably from scraping the ground when she fell.
His observation skills were incredible!
Jiang Xingxing was at a loss for words. As she was stared at by those long, beautiful almond-shaped eyes, she felt as if a romantic French rose had bloomed in her heart.
The Rolls-Royce started up again and slowly drove out of the film studio.
Jiang Xingxing stood up, took a band-aid out of her bag, and placed it on her wrist. Looking at the remains of her lunch on the ground, she sighed. There went her dinner.
But that man, those eyes… they were really beautiful.
…
The little incident didn’t seem to affect Shang Jie.
He leaned against the car window, his long, slender fingers holding an actor’s profile.
“City of Daylight,” the most anticipated hot IP drama in recent years, was being produced by the Shang Corporation. The director had tentatively selected the leads and sent the final choices to the youngest boss of the Shang Corporation for approval.
Shang Jie casually flipped through the photos and information of the male and female leads before setting them aside.
The driver, Lin Chuan, glanced at him through the rearview mirror and asked, “The male and female leads are currently the most popular stars this year, both good-looking and with a huge following. Is Mr. Shang not satisfied?”
“Looks don’t matter; I care about acting skills.”
As Shang Jie said this, he couldn’t help but think of the girl from earlier. She was dressed in a loose, light pink sweatshirt with her hair casually tied up in a bun. She was charming and attractive, and her acting was so natural that it could genuinely deceive people.
Such talent at such a young age was rare.
But the scar on her forehead… it seemed he’s seen it somewhere before…
A sharp pain suddenly pierced Shang Jie’s head, and he instinctively pressed his hand against his forehead.
“Mr. Shang, before going to the clinic, we should get the car washed,” Lin Chuan said, looking at him through the rearview mirror.
The eye-catching Rolls-Royce Phantom now had oily white rice, slices of reheated pork, and bits of green onion and pickled radish stuck to its windows, drawing a lot of attention along the way.
Shang Jie glanced at his watch. “There’s no time. I have an appointment with Dr. Lawrence, and the time is limited.”
Lin Chuan looked at the piece of glistening fatty meat on the car window, feeling that it was really undignified—after all, there were only a few Rolls-Royce Phantoms in the entire city.
In a flash of inspiration, he turned on the windshield wipers.
As a result, the piece of fatty meat stubbornly stuck to the wiper, smearing the entire window with grease.
Lin Chuan: …
Shang Jie: …
Where did he find this idiot driver?
The Rolls-Royce pulled into the clinic at the foot of Nanshan Mountain. The security guards opened the gate and stood at attention as the car drove in.
The car stopped on the lawn. Knowing that Shang Jie had arrived, the nurses all peeked out from the windows to catch a glimpse of the Rolls-Royce.
The car door opened, and a long, straight leg stepped out, instantly making their breaths catch.
Shang Jie lived up to his name—refined, disciplined, and as calm as water. His beautiful almond-shaped eyes squinted slightly against the bright sunlight, revealing a long, thick lash line. Below his high, straight nose, his thin lips were slightly pursed, delicate and sensual.
His young face was pale and aloof, exuding an elegant and ascetic aura.
After adjusting to the sunlight, he opened his eyes. His dark brown pupils were calm, with a hint of coolness, yet somehow also carried an air of superiority.
His presence was so overwhelming that it made him difficult to approach.
Shang Jie was the youngest heir of the Shang Corporation. He completed his university education at eighteen, obtained dual master’s degrees in Media and Finance from the United States at twenty-two, and became the CEO of the Shang Corporation. Under his leadership, the group reached unprecedented heights, becoming a leader in the industry.
He had also been repeatedly listed in the top ten of Forbes’ international rankings of young billionaires.
Whenever the media discussed this legendary CEO of the Shang Corporation, two words always came up—
Single.
The media unanimously agreed that there was no woman in the world who could match him.
However, this young billionaire mysteriously disappeared within forty-eight hours after leaving the clinic!
Shang Jie’s personal doctor, Lawrence, revealed a shocking piece of news to the public media.
Shang Jie suffers from dissociative identity disorder1Dissociative identity disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder and split personality disorder, is a mental health condition where you have two or more separate identities. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/9792-dissociative-identity-disorder-multiple-personality-disorder, with two personalities residing within him. One is his true self—cold, decisive, and resolute.
The other personality…
Dr. Lawrence hesitated, but under persistent questioning from the media, he finally confessed, “The other personality is quite dangerous. He… he might have a particular fondness for women.”
After much deliberation, Dr. Lawrence summed it up in two words:
“Sex addiction.”
Yes, the second personality suffers from hypersexuality, with an overwhelming obsession with sex to the point of addiction.
This is also why Shang Jie has remained single for so many years.
He strictly practices abstinence, avoiding any physical contact with women.
Over the years, Shang Jie has relied on medication to control the emergence of the second personality. Recently, as his condition improved, he stopped the medication, but unexpectedly…
As soon as he left the clinic, the second personality surfaced. He casually instructed the driver, Lin Chuan, to get out of the car, then drove off alone and disappeared without a trace.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom was later found in a warehouse in a slum, but there was no sign of Shang Jie—the second personality had vanished into thin air.
…
The night was deep, and the television was broadcasting news about a missing heir.
Jiang Xingxing wasn’t paying attention to the TV; she was focused on rehearsing lines for her role as a palace maid.
Even though she was just an extra, she was diligently studying the character, trying her best to authentically capture the maid’s mindset, emotions, and perspective.
Her stomach growled again. She rummaged through the fridge and found a packet of instant noodles, preparing to cook them to satiate her hunger.
Just then, she heard her golden retriever barking outside.
She lived in a warehouse on the rooftop, where the door opened directly to the open rooftop. Living alone, she kept the dog for security. Whenever a stranger approached the rooftop, the dog would immediately alert her.
A thief?
Unlikely—she was so broke that she was renting a warehouse on the top floor. What kind of thief would target her?
Jiang Xingxing fastened the door chain and peeked outside through a crack.
The rooftop outside was wet, with a light drizzle falling from the dark sky. A tall man stood there, holding a black umbrella. The umbrella’s edge was slightly lifted, revealing his delicate, thin lips.
The corners of his mouth curved into a slightly wicked smile.
“Hello, my name is Shang Jie.”
Sansukini: Hi there. Thanks for reading this novel. I will translate this one every Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Please look forward to it.
Basically, Xingxing woke up the second personality this time. This novel used some cliche drama tropes like–spoiler2kidnapping, amnesia, swapping children… but even so, I think this novel is so fluffy and light reading.
By the way, I don’t get it how a small scar can make somebody lose opportunities as an actor? With the current make-up technology and even surgery, those small scars can be easily removed. But I guess the scar is used as a plot device to show how our Xingxing persevered in the entertainment industry. Anyways, I still enjoyed this novel a lot. I hope you do too.
