Jiang Miao anxiously waited for over a week before the real Major Yan He contacted her again.
“I have to temporarily wait in the capital for the decision on my situation. I’m sorry to intrude, but could I stay at your place during this time?” Yan He said over the phone. “You have some things that belong to me, which were brought over from my private residence in the Romo system. Also… I’d like to spend more time with the child.”
Even though Jiang Miao might have wanted to keep the child all to herself, she couldn’t bring herself to intentionally separate Jiang Rui from his biological father. Moreover, when it came to the child’s birth, leaving aside the matters of the military and the state, Major Yan He was completely a victim.
Jiang Miao had no choice but to agree reluctantly.
When Yan He called, he was probably at the garrison base on the first moon. About an hour after the call, he arrived.
The front door opened, revealing a man in a black military uniform. He lifted his gaze, his face stern and chiseled, his eyes sharp.
It was an exact reenactment of the past, but Jiang Miao could no longer be amazed. All she felt was anxiety and… awkwardness.
Perhaps the most infuriating thing about Troy wasn’t that he deceived Jiang Miao in a relationship, but that he used someone else’s face while doing so.

“It’s perfect,” she smiled. “Rui Rui will definitely like it.”
Yan He noticed that Jiang Miao’s smile was much more genuine than when she had said “please come in,” and he could sense the comfort in her gaze.
She had been deceived in a relationship, and her situation was hardly better than his, yet she could still muster a smile to comfort him. What a kind-hearted woman, he thought.
Yan He looked around and noticed that the house was very quiet. He asked, “The child…?”
“Taking a nap,” Jiang Miao replied, holding the teddy bear as she led him inside. “This way, please.”
Yan He sat down in the living room, and Jiang Miao asked, “Tea or coffee?”
“Coffee,” Yan He replied.
A robot brought over two cups of coffee, and the two of them began to talk.
“Does he nap every day?”
“Yes.”
“How long does he usually sleep?”
“He should wake up in about half an hour.”
“Have you been taking care of him alone these past few days?”
“I took some time off from work.”
“You’ve worked hard.”
“It’s been manageable.”
The conversation about the child helped them get through the initial awkwardness, but then it grew quiet again. Both of them took a sip from their cups, looking down as they did.
After putting down her cup, Jiang Miao said, “Why don’t you go ahead and put your things in the room?”
“Alright,” Yan He agreed, setting his cup down as well.
That room had previously been occupied by Troy, and it still had a strong lived-in feel. Jiang Miao hadn’t wanted to go in there at all these past few days, and she really hadn’t. It wasn’t until Yan He mentioned coming over that she asked the robot to tidy it up a bit.
“I’ve replaced all the bedding with new ones, and the wardrobe has been cleared out,” Jiang Miao explained. “As for the other things, I didn’t know which belonged to you, so I didn’t touch them.”
But Yan He said, “Other than this, I don’t need anything else.”
He strode over to the desk and placed his large hand on the keyboard of the desktop smart computer. The screen lit up, and Yan He brought up a list of recently used files, which was quite long.
Jiang Miao was stunned. “What’s this?”
“They’re all my video journals,” Yan He said coldly.
He casually clicked on one of the files.
“Rafe was shot through the eye, injuring his brain.”
“…But he didn’t die. He’s still alive,” Jiang Miao’s voice came from behind him.
Yan He closed the video and turned around.
Jiang Miao stared at the screen and murmured, “You lived on Piak Star in the Romo system. Your house was a three-story building, and the surrounding area within a 60-kilometer radius was a primitive forest that you bought and turned into a private hunting ground, right?”
“…Yes.”
“Your best hunting record was a Snow Thunder Beast.”
“Yes.”
“In your last solo military competition, there was a girl who was very skilled. She ranked third overall in the end.”
“…Her name was Alisha.”
The room fell into silence.
Even the usually calm and kind woman now had a visible expression of frustration on her face. Her lips were tightly pressed together, clearly holding back a surge of anger that she couldn’t express.
Suddenly, she turned and left the room.
As the host, it could be said that she was quite rude. But Yan He did not blame her, nor did he immediately follow her, because he knew that Jiang Miao needed time and space.
Jiang Miao sat alone on the living room sofa, taking a long time to let go of her frustration.
Footsteps echoed down the hallway, and a few seconds later, the young officer in the black uniform sat down on the sofa next to her.
“I found this,” he said.
Jiang Miao turned her head to look. Displayed on the activated screen was the “Parenting Agreement” she had signed with the impostor.
Here it comes! Jiang Miao’s heart tightened, and she immediately sat up straight.
Was he planning to overturn this agreement? The contract was officially registered on the government website, and unless he exposed the real situation, the National Security Bureau wouldn’t allow it. In that case, she might still have some room to maneuver…
While Jiang Miao’s mind was spinning with all sorts of strategies and speculations, she heard Yan He’s deep, cold voice say, “I can accept all the terms of this agreement.”
What?
What?!
Jiang Miao’s eyes widened.
This… is it really going this smoothly? It turns out I was completely overthinking things! Jiang Miao awkwardly touched her earlobe, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“However,” Yan He continued, “it’s still unclear how the authorities will handle my situation. If I’m dispatched to a remote area… I might not be able to fulfill my responsibilities as a co-parent. In that case, I’ll compensate you financially. But… how will you manage raising the child on your own?”
This… this is way better than expected!
Jiang Miao replied, “I still have eleven months of maternity leave. I’ll take the full leave first, and when Rui Rui is a bit older, I can hire a dedicated childcare professional or send him to a daycare center.”
Jiang Miao had already thought about and consulted on how to manage raising the child on her own in the future.
She reassured Yan He, “I definitely won’t neglect him. You can rest assured.”
Yan He had no reason not to trust her. At the military base, the agents from the National Security Bureau were quite impressed by Jiang Rui’s incredibly cool stroller. The attention to detail showed how much care she put into it, and Yan He was confident that Jiang Miao would be a good caregiver.
During her interrogation, she had remained very calm, and although they hadn’t interacted much at the time, he had noticed.
“And you…” Jiang Miao hesitated for a moment before asking, “What about your future…?”
Yan He had used the word “disposal” twice when referring to his future. Remembering what she had heard from Troy about the military’s treatment of prisoners, Jiang Miao couldn’t help but worry about Yan He.
Yan He’s eyes darkened slightly as he replied in an offhand manner, “It’s still uncertain.” Clearly, he didn’t want to discuss the topic further.
Jiang Miao wisely stayed quiet.
There was a brief silence between them again before Yan He spoke up, “Troy got away.”
“Huh?” Jiang Miao was a bit confused.
“We followed Liu Chenguang’s lead and tracked down his safe house. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch him and lost a few men in the process,” Yan He said. “We found a surgical medical pod, so he’s likely changed his appearance. The chances of capturing him are slim.”
As he spoke, he quietly observed Jiang Miao.
Jiang Miao lowered her gaze. “Oh.”
Then she looked up again. “Did you go too?”
Yan He nodded. “Yes, I volunteered for the mission. I was hoping that if we could capture him alive, perhaps…”
He could redeem himself.
Jiang Miao understood. She couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Yan He was indeed the real Yan He, with his impressive, glittering resume. He had once been a promising young officer with a bright future, but now… his future was uncertain.
Jiang Miao raised her hand and pointed to her own cheek. “This…”
Yan He lifted his hand to touch the scar on his face. “Oh, this. I got injured earlier and didn’t have the conditions to treat it at the time. I planned to take care of it after returning, but once I found out someone was impersonating me after crossing the border, I didn’t bother.”
“You don’t need it anymore, right?” Jiang Miao asked. “Do you want me to help you remove it?”
Yan He nodded. “Sure.”
Jiang Miao called the robot over, opened its compartment, and took out a laser repair pen. She sat on the armrest of Yan He’s sofa, placing her left hand on his face. “Don’t move.”
Yan He stayed perfectly still, not even flinching. With him being so cooperative, Jiang Miao’s hand holding the laser pen was steady as she carefully erased the scars from his face, one line at a time.
While Jiang Miao’s eyes focused solely on the scars, Yan He’s gaze was elsewhere.
Being this close, he noticed her porcelain-like skin, delicate and smooth, and her breath, soft and fragrant. Her eyes were like clear springs, moist and bright.
Living with a woman like this, it was only natural for a man to desire something more. At least in this regard, Yan He, as a man, could understand Troy.
“All done!” Jiang Miao activated a screen, enlarging the house’s surveillance video to use as a mirror for him. “Take a look.”
The scars had been completely removed, and his cheek now bore a patch of fresh, pink skin.
“Huh?” Jiang Miao noticed something and pulled at Yan He’s collar slightly. “There are scars on your neck too?”
She hadn’t noticed before, but now that she was closer, she saw some scars peeking out from the black collar.
“Let’s take care of those too,” Jiang Miao suggested.
“Alright,” Yan He agreed.
Jiang Miao had meant to remove the scars on his neck. But to her surprise, after Yan He agreed, he calmly began unbuttoning and removing his uniform, followed by his shirt.
Jiang Miao was a bit stunned.
When his shirt was fully undone, she froze.
His body was covered in scars of various sizes, a shocking sight. What had Yan He gone through during his captivity?
“Doctor?” Yan He called out, waiting for treatment. He turned and saw the shock and sympathy in Jiang Miao’s eyes.
After all, she was a refined woman living in a bustling city, not accustomed to the sight of wounds and blood like his comrades on the front lines. Sensing her discomfort, Yan He said, “Just help me remove the ones on my back. I can take care of the front myself.”
But Jiang Miao hesitated, not moving.
After a moment, she said, “There are too many. Let’s use the medical pod.”
Yan He was surprised. “You have a medical pod at home?”
Jiang Miao replied with a complex expression, “Troy bought it, using your money. He used the pod to deliver the baby at home.”
Yan He immediately understood. Since it wasn’t actually him, there were obviously things Troy needed to conceal, like DNA and blood type.
“Come with me,” Jiang Miao said, leading him to the room with the medical pod. She checked the level of the body repair fluid. “It’s full, enough to use. Do you know how to operate it?”
Yan He nodded. “Yes.” After a pause, he added, “I have one in my own home too.”
Jiang Miao remembered that the real Yan He was a man who enjoyed hunting, so he must have had his share of injuries.
She left the room, and as the door was about to close, she glanced inside, seeing the fit, strong young man placing his hand on his belt.
The door closed.
Jiang Miao lowered her eyes, feeling a sense of melancholy.
The face was identical, but the body was different. It wasn’t just the scars—it was the unique shape of each person’s bones and muscles.
This wasn’t the body she was familiar with.
After Yan He emerged from the medical pod, the robot brought him a towel and guided him to take a shower.
When he reentered the living room, dressed in clean clothes, he heard more than one voice. The room echoed with the bright, carefree laughter of a child, completely unaware of the recent events at home.
Yan He stood there, watching Jiang Miao play a ball-rolling game with his son on the floor.
Jiang Miao noticed him first. She paused, then rolled the ball away. The ball rolled past Jiang Rui, the chubby little boy, who turned and saw the tall man bending down to catch the ball with one hand, looking a bit unsure of what to do.
“Papa!” The chubby baby’s face instantly lit up with a bright smile, and he opened his arms, stumbling towards the man.
He looked like he could lose his balance and fall at any moment. After all, he was only seven months old; most children at this age were just starting to sit and crawl, their bones and muscles not yet strong enough for walking.
Seeing the little one about to tumble, Yan He quickly tossed the ball aside and stepped forward, catching Jiang Rui just before he fell.
He held Jiang Rui under the arms, his arms tense and straight, as if he were holding a delicate, fragile object, his whole body stiff.
Jiang Rui looked up in confusion. “?”
Jiang Miao walked over and gave Yan He a look.
Yan He was a little puzzled.
On the battlefield, he could easily interpret all his comrades’ signals, but he really didn’t understand what Jiang Miao’s look meant.
Jiang Miao looked up at the ceiling, exasperated.
“Papa~ Hug! Hug~” Jiang Rui opened his chubby little hands and kept kicking his short legs.
Yan He suddenly realized.
Carefully, he retracted his arms, pulling Jiang Rui’s plump body close to his own, then gently tightened his grip to hold him securely.
Yan He had never been in close contact with a child before; this was his first time.
So small, and so soft, he felt like he had to be extremely careful with his strength, as even the slightest extra pressure might harm him.
And there was a strange smell.
Yan He couldn’t help but lean in and sniff. It seemed like… a mix of milk and something else? Surprisingly, it smelled very nice.
He couldn’t resist sniffing again—indeed, it was a pleasant scent.
When he looked up, he saw Jiang Miao turning her head away, wiping her nose as if trying hard not to cry.
Her pale profile, her delicate chin, the rounded earlobes, the graceful neck.
This young woman had remained calm and strong, but in the end… she must have been deeply hurt too.
Sansukini: I’ll be starting 2 new novels next week after the end of Interstellar Dad. I want to thank everybody who has read my translations, especially ISD. I really appreciate it, you guys. I hope you enjoyed it and please support my other translations too.
So, I’m planning to start 2 new novels. One is a modern one, with a theme of redemption and split personality. The title will be “I’ll give you the bed.” No it’s not a smut. I really want to translate an R18 novel, but I haven’t found anything worth translating yet, something with a solid plot and not just R18 actions. The title is because the ML with a split personality took refuge with the FL after the second personality was able to break free. So she gave him a bed in her humble home. There shouldn’t be any confusion about who she really liked, the relationship was written cohesively. Anyway, I really like it. It’s really straightforward with likeable leading and supporting characters, It’s also a CEO novel, btw.
The second one is a novel I have read several times and have wanted to translate since I started translating. It was from the same author of Bai Fu Mei in the 70s and was also set as a rebirth back to the 70s. The FL married an educated youth but he divorced her after he came back to the city. After rebirth, she was already married to him but was determined to change their outcome by not getting too attached to him anymore, just waiting for the day they divorce. (The ML is a good guy, he’s not a scum and there was a very good reason why he divorced her.) Anyway, like Bai Fu Mei, this novel made me cry too. Admittedly, I do like novels that made me cry. It has a Happy Ending
I’ll probably post the summary on the next chapter of ISD coz I haven’t organized them yet. I’m kinda scared if I’m taking too many projects at once, since I will be doing 4 novels at once, with 3 chapters each per week. But, whatever! Question for you guys, do you like ISD’s kind of schedule where you get a chapter per day for 3 days straight, or get a chapter every other day?
That’s it for my long thoughts
Thanks for visiting. If you like this story, then I’m shamelessly asking you to visit NovelUpdates and give a 5⭐ review. (人❛ᴗ❛)♪тнайк чоц♪(❛ᴗ❛*人)
