Chapter 111: Success

Yan He finally joined the team.

After signing the non-disclosure agreement, he finally found out what project Jiang Miao and Tanaka were working on.

It was said that Troy used a device suspected to be space technology to steal Gita’s warp drive, and after Jiang Miao went to Nash and came back…

Yan He certainly wouldn’t naively think that this technology, or the information or data related to it, would be kindly given to Jiang Miao by that bastard Nash.

No matter how true love is, it’s impossible.

Then it could only be…

Great, that’s so Jiang Miao!

Thinking this way, Yan He felt his mood soar as if it had boarded a warp-speed spaceship.

Well, some people are indeed aggressive when it comes to investing. Jiang Miao felt she could understand that.

They even opened a bottle of wine to celebrate their cooperation.

Yan He asked, “Did you watch the news?”

With tens of thousands of news items every day, the “news” Yan He was referring to was obviously specific.

Jiang Miao looked at the ceiling. “I did.” The two sides had signed a bilateral agreement for peaceful coexistence.

“It was signed a week ago,” Yan He said, “but the news was only released the day before yesterday.”

Jiang Miao let out a soft “oh.”

Tanaka, more concerned than the people involved, eagerly asked, “Any insider information? When will the borders be fully open? When will there be free travel between the two sides?”

Yan He said, “It won’t be that fast. Didn’t the news say it would take twenty years to achieve full openness between the two sides?”

Exactly, it wouldn’t be that fast. At the time, He Yan thought it was perfect, as if Jiang Miao would be able to freely visit Zhang Ya in Gita next month.

In reality, the negotiations alone had taken a year and eight months. Achieving full openness was expected to take twenty years.

“The first to come will surely be the government’s inspection team, and then gradually open up to civilian inspection teams, step by step. That should be the way,” Yan He said.

“Oh, that person doesn’t count as civilian. They will definitely follow the government’s inspection team. If it were me…” Tanaka, ever the troublemaker, said with a punch to his palm and a big smile, “I’d set up an embassy. I’d definitely apply to be stationed here permanently!”

“……”

Yan He and Jiang Miao simultaneously gave Tanaka a mental middle finger in their hearts.

At that moment, an alarm sounded. But this alarm wasn’t harsh at all; it went “toot, toot, toot” and even sounded somewhat cute.

“Dessert alert! The food cabinet has been breached! Dessert alert! The food cabinet has been breached!”

Jiang Miao held her forehead, Tanaka laughed heartily, and Yan He couldn’t help but chuckle.

Jiang Miao rubbed her temples. “When I was little, I was only allowed extra desserts on Wednesdays, and I had to wait until Wednesday. Why can’t he listen to his mom like I did?”

Yan He smiled and said, “If he always listened, he wouldn’t be a boy. Boys are all like this.”

Jiang Miao actually thought it was Yan He who spoiled Jiang Rui. Clearly, Jiang Rui used to be a sweet, adorable baby. Ever since getting close to Yan He, he had become wild and uncontrollable.

But Yan He smiled as he excused Jiang Rui, looking very much like a doting father.

Jiang Miao gave him another look and then said to Tanaka, “Upgrade the food cabinet security tomorrow.”

“No problem.” Tanaka snapped his fingers and said, “It’s time to increase the difficulty for him.”

At this point, Yan He suddenly said, “I wonder if he brushes his teeth properly after eating.”

He was staring at Tanaka as he said this. As quick-witted as Tanaka was, he understood immediately. He restrained the suddenly active Jiang Miao and said seriously, “You and Old Yan keep talking business, I’ll go check on him.”

Jiang Miao knew what the two men were hinting at. After Tanaka left the room, she held her cup, waiting for Yan He to speak.

Sure enough, Yan He said, “Ruirui is about to start elementary school, right?”

Just as Tanaka mentioned, Jiang Rui completed the kindergarten curriculum in just one year. Government officials had already evaluated him at the kindergarten, giving him enviably high scores and requesting Jiang Miao, as his guardian, to let Jiang Rui skip a grade and enter elementary school.

“Yes. The evaluation results predict he will finish all his middle school coursework by the age of thirteen,” Jiang Miao said. “But actually, it won’t even take that long.”

“Oh?”

“Because the evaluation didn’t account for the caregivers.” Jiang Miao shrugged. “With Tanaka and me, well… he should be done by ten.”

Yan He laughed.

His smile was truly charming, as Jiang Miao’s ideal type had once been.

Yan He was very perceptive about the dynamics between men and women. He could notice even the slightest flicker in a woman’s eyes. He noticed when Jiang Miao looked at him for a moment while they were talking about Jiang Rui.

Yan He was the type to seize any opportunity.

“Ten years old will come quickly,” he said. “It will be in the blink of an eye. He’s almost four now.”

Advertisements

Indeed, time does pass quickly.

Jiang Miao felt inexplicably melancholic, and Yan He said, “Then what?”

His eyes sparkled with eager anticipation. “Jiang, let’s have another baby!”

This time was different from before. Jiang Miao didn’t immediately say, “I have no plans to have another child for now.” She held her cup and thoughtfully scrutinized Yan He.

Yan He held his breath and straightened his back.

Feelings grow from spending time together. Over the past year or so, Yan He had become a regular presence, like an aunt visiting monthly, and he had already blended into her life, even having his own room! Jiang Miao, being human, couldn’t be completely indifferent.

“If we have another child, I still need to be the primary caregiver,” Jiang Miao said seriously.

“I can accept that,” Yan He said. “I can also be the producer.”

Jiang Miao bit her lip and lowered her eyes for a long time before looking up. “Let me think about it.”

“Alright.” Yan He couldn’t hide his smile. “Of course. There’s no rush.”

Yan He’s thought process carried the inherent thinking of Gita people.

In Gita’s parenting model, it’s rare for caregivers to have a second child while the first is still a minor. When it does happen, it’s usually because the person has a natural love for children.

In such cases, government social workers conduct extra evaluations to determine if the person is capable of raising more than one child simultaneously. If the evaluation is negative, it can even result in a deduction of points.

So, for Yan He, if Jiang Miao agreed, it would still be at least five or six years. According to Jiang Miao’s plan, Jiang Rui was expected to enter university around ten years old, at which point he would no longer need her care. Once he entered university, he would be separated from Jiang Miao

At that time, Jiang Miao could have another child.

But what Jiang Miao was thinking was… whether to give Jiang Rui a younger brother or sister.

Not the kind of half-sibling they might never meet. A real sibling, close enough in age to play together, keep each other company, and develop a strong bond.

This idea flashed through Jiang Miao’s mind when Yan He smiled and excused Jiang Rui for breaking into the food cabinet to steal desserts.

At that moment, she thought… it wouldn’t be bad. The child would be smart, beautiful, and strong, and this man would make a great father! Jiang Rui absolutely adored him.

That night, Jiang Miao couldn’t sleep.

She sat on the windowsill, pouring herself a few more drinks.

If she truly wanted to have another child, she could agree to Yan He’s suggestion now. But she had told him, “Let me think about it.”

Jiang Miao gazed out at the massive pink and purple planet hanging in the night sky. It wasn’t the moon, but a nearby gas giant, a beautiful sight visible from the northern hemisphere of Lily Star, both day and night.

She downed another drink.

Jiang Miao sighed.

No matter how much she tried to avoid it during the day, in the quiet of the night, she had to face herself.

She knew very well what she was hesitating over and what she was waiting for.

So… she would wait a little longer.

Four months after the peace agreement was signed, the first batch of 500 Gita government inspectors set off for Nash. The peace agreement was driven by Nash, so they had to open their doors first to show sincerity.

Six months later, the Gita government inspectors returned, accompanied by 500 Nash government inspectors.

Although there were many people, good-looking ones always stood out. Among the sea of faces, the exceptionally handsome man in military uniform got a few more seconds of screen time.

Of course, Tanaka, who was watching the news video, noticed this.

He glanced sideways at Jiang Miao, letting out a long “wow~” with a drawn-out, twisting ending.

Jiang Miao turned off the screen. “Get to work!”

“We’re just short of stability,” she said. “As long as it’s stabilized…”

“We’ll never have to worry again,” Tanaka interjected.

The final experiment succeeded a month later.

The complicated process of registering the patent took another month.

Then came publishing the paper, holding a press conference… followed by countless phone calls. But Jiang Miao and Tanaka weren’t in a hurry to respond; they were patiently waiting.

They waited only three days before the military came. Jiang Miao and Tanaka, with Jiang Rui, boarded the military ship and returned to the capital star circle they had left over two years ago, heading directly to the central garrison base.

Jiang Miao had been in and out of this place three times.

Negotiations with the military went much smoother than expected.

Many of the negotiation tactics Jiang Miao and Tanaka had prepared weren’t needed. The military, as a major buyer, was far more generous than they had imagined.

When they saw the astronomical figure in the patent licensing fee section of the contract, both remained calm and composed — a demeanor they had practiced many times at home.

Back in their assigned rest room, Tanaka collapsed against Jiang Miao.

“Quick, hold me up!” Tanaka panted heavily. “Our future…”

“We can now rest easy!” Jiang Miao also panted heavily.

Nearly five-year-old Jiang Rui shook his head at the two of them, opened his desktop smart brain, and focused on editing his project report.

“Mom, when are we going back?” Such occasions were too boring for a child. He was thinking about something else. “Uncle Yan should be back in eight days.”

Jiang Miao and Tanaka had also taken the military ship to return to Lily Star. With a warp drive, what would take over a month by civilian transport only took a few days, and that wasn’t even at full speed.

Two days after their return to Lily Star, Yan He completed his mission and came back.

After putting Jiang Rui to bed, the three adults had a celebration party.

Hugging a wine bottle, Yan He sighed, “My investment foresight is superb!”

With a slurred tongue, Tanaka said, “I’m going to buy a planet!”

This wasn’t an exaggeration. Some barren, resource-poor uninhabited planets were bought and terraformed by wealthy individuals. Tanaka could now afford one.

As for Jiang Miao… Jiang Miao grabbed Yan He’s collar in anger. “Why are you using someone else’s face again! Change it back! Change it back!”

She tried to pinch Yan He’s face, but he was already asleep.

Jiang Miao also fell asleep.

Tanaka fell asleep too.

The next morning, sunlight streamed in. Yan He, lying on the floor, woke up and felt a warm body in his arms. He instinctively hugged the person tighter.

The other person hugged him back like an octopus.

With their eyes closed, both felt very comfortable.

Until Jiang Miao’s slightly hoarse voice from a hangover sounded.

She asked, “Don’t you two… find the floor hard?”

Sansukini: Hahaha. Yan He was holding Tanaka in his sleep. (つ≧▽≦)つ

    Okay
Still don’t like both ML deep enough buuuuuut
I would ship Tanaka and Yan He really hard, even though I’m not into BL. I think their dynamics would be adorable
    #give_HE_to_Tanaka 😂
I mean he is now that “helping kinda background-ish gay friend” and I really want he got something going outside of his relationship with Jiang Miao.
    /
On the other note. “According to Jiang Miao’s plan, Jiang Rui” I was so scared for a moment 😂😂😂 Like just a couple of chapters ago it was “she planned to allow him play with children his age and make friends” and now we see “uni at ten years old”. I was relieved to realize it was just “perception what could be” (hopefully)

Great translation! Thank you for your hard work 👏

If I remember correctly, Jiang Miao finished uni at 15. It helps a lot that he has a genius mom.
