I Really Like My Sister

Chapter 62. Thief

When they heard Chen Du’s name, another bunch of people looked over their shoulders.

The scene in the photo was clearly captured. The clothes were torn just as they were received, indicating that something had gone wrong before the distribution session. Such tears could not have happened naturally; they had to have been caused by human intervention. It was either by a problem with the distribution staff or before the distribution.

The people in charge of the distribution were ordinary casual workers. Who would have the heart to antagonise a student?

How could they have taken pictures?

Dai Yining’s eyelids jumped.

Chen Jiashu briefly explained what happened after the incident. The dress was torn so she could only go and find a new remedy as soon as possible, “The shop selling the ballet dress is far away from here. I took a taxi back and forth, and rushed non-stop, but unfortunately it was still a little delayed.”

“It’s okay, it’s okay. Jiashu, you’ve done very well.”

The words stopped right there.  The teacher looked at the movement of the tears on the dress. A suspicion gradually emerged in her heart, but she did not have time to think about it, nor did she want to think about it for the time being. She patted Chen Jiashu’s shoulder, “Have you eaten?”

The announcer’s voice in the foreground was methodical as each programme progressed in turn, and soon it was time for their Swan Lake. Teacher Song asked Chen Jiashu in a warm voice, “Are you tight?”

Chen Jiashu shook her head gently, “No, I’m not.”

She really didn’t seem to be tight. She was standing straight and loose, raising her hand to hold the crown on her head. Her jaw was slightly tucked in and her gaze steadily falling forward.

Not like an actress waiting backstage, but more like a hostess who dominates the room.

Perhaps it was because her look had a reassuring power, but Teacher Song was suddenly relieved to remember that on many occasions, large and small, she had always looked like this before going on stage. Light and steady, just as she had done afterwards.

A new suspicion emerged in Teacher Song’s mind.

Perhaps Chen Jiashu’s true level was not what she usually showed.

Nor should it have been the level she was supposed to be at.

The reason for this was very frightening to think about.

The sensitivity of a child’s mind was sometimes so delicate that it was heartbreaking and frightening.

The dance teams were already lined up on either side of the curtain, and the MC was standing in the middle of the stage in front of them, reading the introductory speech. When everything was ready, Teacher Song put aside her other thoughts for the moment and patted Chen Jiashu on the back, saying to her as usual, “Go for it.”

Chen Jiashu also raised a short smile as usual. Then she quickly lowered the corner of her mouth, closed her eyes, and was already in character when she opened them again.

As soon as she left, a bunch of whispers rang out behind Chen Jiashu.

“Jumping like a stupid crow.”

“How dare you come?”

“Pfft, didn’t you see that Teacher Song didn’t even want to talk to her and ran away in a hurry.”

“Come on!” Deliberately imitating Teacher Song’s tone of voice, “You’re the worst!”

“Hahahaha,” several people snorted in a low voice.

Dai Yining’s uneasiness from earlier had also subsided quite a bit from the laughter.

What was the use of dressing up nicely? The stage was all about strength. If she couldn’t even set the right spot, she would be a joke on stage; an embroidered pillow of beautiful waste.

Thinking of this, she finally found some comfort in telling herself that she didn’t need to panic, that she was afraid of nothing, just a clumsy and awkward second dancer, far inferior to her and not worthy of fear.

Exhaling softly, Dai Yining regained her aura as the main character and looked up like a white swan.

As soon as she raised her eyes, she met Chen Jiashu’s eyes.

Her eyes scraped coldly over her with sarcasm and disdain.

Dai Yining was scratched by her icy gaze and it was as if the bit of confidence she had gathered was scraped away. Her heart froze again, and the previous bad premonition came up again.

Suddenly, she remembered Chen Jiashu’s mocking whisper in her ear that day.

“If I were you, I’d never tell the truth if I was a thief.”
