Hold On, You’re Something Else

Chapter 23.1

Chapter 23 (1): Beep⸺

When the receptionist took Gu Xi’s ID, she looked up in surprise at the young man who lowered his hat and was dressed as a waiter.

He looked like a teenager, but his ID showed that he was already 23 years old. He also had the same name as the superstar Gu Xi. She knew that he wasn’t the same person, but the name Gu Xi still managed to make the receptionist’s heart skip a beat.

A superstar such as Gu Xi would surely be surrounded by bodyguards. He wouldn’t go out dressed like this.

Wait, the person in the ID photo…!

No one can imitate that kind of face. There were a lot of people who wanted to look like Gu Xi, but she hadn’t seen anyone who could do a good job imitating the star. The receptionist almost screamed. The one in front of her is the real one!

Several people next to them noticed the commotion.

Gu Xi immediately approached the receptionist and made a shush gesture, “I’m in the middle of shooting. I’m actually secretly followed by a film crew. Can you keep this a secret for me?”

He didn’t even care where Rong Jing was now. He only knew that he was in the same building as him. He simply wanted a place where he could nest for the time being.

At this time, Rong Jing wasn’t very far from Gu Xi. In fact, he was actually very close, with only a wall separating their rooms. The receptionist gave the rooms to them one after another. It just so happened that a group of employees from a certain company engaged in a team building had just left the rooms they had checked in, leaving a few vacant rooms.

Rong Jing had just finished taking a bath, and was now relaxing, wearing the T-shirt he bought earlier. The cellphone he had placed on the table suddenly vibrated. An unfamiliar number was calling him, and only after calling a second time did Rong Jing pick it up.

“It’s me. You’re not missing my voice now, are you?” The caller’s tone seemed arrogant, domineering and unique.

“What’s up,” Rong Jing recognized the voice and hinted to the other person to say what he wanted to say. He didn’t question how the other person got his number since he knew it wouldn’t be hard for him.

Rong Jing held the phone in his ear, dried his hair with a towel using both his hands, and looked at himself in the mirror. Should I shave?

The Alpha’s hormones here in this world were very active. They caused his beard to grow quickly in just one night. Rong Jing thought for a moment. He liked being clean. It was better to shave twice a day, and so he picked up the shaving cream.

“We looked for Huang Jian at the banquet. Guess where we found him?”

Huang Jian was the real name of the young man that had been tied up and taught a lesson by Rong Jing and Gu Xi.

“Where?”

“In the Alpha’s bathroom. You did this, didn’t you?!” This bastard, you’re still pretending you don’t know!

“If you have nothing else to say then I’ll hang up,” The building’s CCTV camera was able to capture him. However, it had only caught him going inside the bathroom. Any evidence of them doing the deed was nowhere to be found. Rong Jing had nothing to fear.

“Come here to Wo Xue Clubhouse. We’re still basically strangers so why don’t we get to know each other?” Wu Fuyu didn’t continue to talk about the Huang man’s affairs. The next words were almost tantamount to inviting Rong Jing to join his circle. He was one of the few people Wu Fuyu had been willing to befriend.

Rong Jing thought of the Wo Xue Clubhouse in the novel and recalled that it was a club full of Chinese classical charm.

Wo Xue was a phrase derived from a story of filial piety and integrity from (The Biography of Ruonan Sages) that later took on a meaning of being at peace and aloofness. This aloofness, however, was not in a derogatory sense of being complacent but was rather a true detachment from political and materialistic pursuits. One archetypal figure of this being Tao Yuanming1A Chinese poet and politician.

This kind of naming was very much in line with Wu Hanqi’s style. He had always looked like a person who seemed courteous yet aloof.

“I’m kind of busy at the moment, so maybe later,” Rong Jing thought of their families’ relationship. He didn’t want to put Xie Ling in a tight spot and say something he shouldn’t, but he also didn’t want to go to this trap of a clubhouse.

In the Wo Xue’s Clubhouse, several men and women looked at the phone that had been hung up. They looked at each other and said nothing. They all heard the conversation between the Prince2Wu Fuyu and Rong Jing. They all thought that if Wu Fuyu asked him, Rong Jing would give him face no matter how arrogant he was.

But he didn’t give him any.

Someone asked Wu Fuyu, “Didn’t you say that he was interested in you and wouldn’t possibly refuse your invitation?”

Wu Fuyu’s face turned red as he pushed away the Omegas that were sticking close to him and yelled, “What the hell do you know, you depraved, worthless bastard! You clearly haven’t been in a relationship. He’s playing hard to get to catch my attention! Naturally, educated people always have something up their sleeves.”

Wu Fuyu also believed this explanation as he said this to the other person. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that what he was saying was correct. It was the only thing that could explain Rong Jing’s actions.

Rong Jing suddenly had a little lapse of concentration after hanging up the phone and happened to accidentally cut himself with the razor. He washed it immediately. To his relief, he found that the wound wasn’t that deep.

Wu Fuyu is originally one of the male leads in the book. He was important in the plot of the story and was the most insane among the characters. Many of the threats that the protagonist received were from him, however, though he may seem like he’s very active (in making trouble), for the most part, he is very idle now. This kind of idleness was not fake. He was vicious and hot-tempered in the novel but he was only showing 1/10th of that now.

What happened to make the reality now different from the story’s plot? Was it because of that important point, where he should have been stabbed by Gu Xi?

Rong Jing faintly looked down to see his thing, thinking if he had ever been stabbed there, it was possible that it wouldn’t be healed. He might actually break down and go ballistic if that happens, not to mention people like Wu Fuyu, whose character setting was crazy and ruthless, totally in line with the novel’s theme.

Though Gu Xi was indeed a beautiful character in the novel, it was undeniable that this man was also dangerous once he’s turned into his cruel mode. He also hated Alphas very much. Rong Jing remembered that he was also an Alpha.

He suddenly felt cold down there.
