Debugging in Book Series

Chapter 13.1

“Does it feel nice and cool on this breezy night?”

Jing Xi started earnestly, “You’re a good person, so I think…”

  Duan Chi interjected, “I’m not.”

Once more, Jing Xi attempted to convey his thoughts unfeignedly. “I’m a law-abiding citizen, so I can’t be with a miscreant.”

Duan Chi wondered, “What if I’m a good person?”

Unhesitatingly, Jing Xi answered,  “In that case, you deserve someone better.”

With a low chuckle, Duan Chi eventually could not refrain from grasping his chin. “There’s no one better than you.”

Setting aside the question of whether Duan Chi was aware of this fact, it was still necessary for him to make an appearance there for old times’ sake.

Following the logic of any ordinary folk, he deliberately questioned, “Your nephew’s bracelet was triggered, yet you’ve come here instead?”

“His bracelet was triggered halfway through,” Duan Chi explained, “and I wanted to see you. So I thought to ask whether you’d like to tag along.”

Jing Xi let out a sound of acknowledgment and warned, “I heard that those two friends of your nephew are Lupinus Mutants too, so when we arrive, you have to get them to stay far away from me.”

Duan Chi nodded his head and motioned for him to get changed.

Just when Jing Xi was about to turn around, the sound of knocking on the door reverberated from the entrance.

At that moment, the two individual’s eyes met in the air before Jing Xi asked, “Who is it?”

“It’s us!” The dandies’ voices rang out through the door. “We’ve prepared food, drinks, and even the poker cards are ready to go! We’ll definitely be spending a night on the tiles!”

The moment the words left their mouths, Jing Xi shot him a sidelong glance. Only after he ensured Duan Chi hid himself behind a wall deep in the room did he open the door and laugh, “I’m going to pass on the fun, so place the stuff here.”

However, the dandies were having none of it.

“How can we ever do that? We brought you all this way to have fun, so how can we possibly leave you here by your lonesome to wallow in misery?”

“Since you are already here, all you are allowed to do is have fun!”

“The more you confine yourself, the more bitter you become. That’s why all will be better when you have a great time!”

“I was out having fun all afternoon,” Jing Xi noted, “Can’t you see that I’ve already taken a bath? So I’m going to prioritize my health and head to bed now.”

Upon hearing that utterance, the dandies clung onto the door and bemoaned, “Prioritize your health? Oh, come on. You’re too young to be encouraging such depravity!”

“What does age have to do with leading a healthy lifestyle?” After saying so, Jing Xi gathered all his anguish into two heart-wrenching sentences. “I advise you to start to do the same as well. It will do you no good to live riotously all day long, and it pains my heart to watch you dig your grave every day.”

Yet, the dandies continued to cling to the door, turning a deaf ear to his wails.

Just when they reckoned he needed some persuading, a jarring ringing sounded from the room and assaulted their ears. A certain wolfling at the police station gave his uncle a call when he was nowhere to be seen.

With that, Jing Xi, Duan Chi, and the dandies collectively sunk into silence.

As soon as the phone call was declined, the dandies were shaken back to reality, and their eyes were about to pop out from their sockets. “There’s someone else in your room!”

“That’s right, and I would also like you to take a look at my attire,” Jing Xi admitted graciously as an ambiguous gleam came into his eyes, “Since we’re all adults here, you should understand. Now, stop bothering me.”

After saying so, he ripped them off the door and slammed it shut with a bang.

‘Holy shit!’ The dandies’ faces contorted into a rictus of utter shock.

Ever since they became acquainted, Young Master Zhou had always abstained from these sorts of matters. Yet, who would have expected him to break his habit on this trip?!

It had been such a staggering discovery that they just could not seem to wrap their heads around that. It was not until one of the dandies snapped out of his reverie. Pounding his fist on the door, he attempted to discourage Young Master Zhou from utilizing this method to vent his emotions. Immediately right after, he was interrupted and dragged away by the others.

Listening to the commotion outside, Duan Chi noted astutely, “You’ve only just met, yet they really do have your interests at heart. To think that they even wish to meddle in these things.”

Jing Xi feigned ignorance of the underlying meaning as innocence etched into every corner of his face. “That’s right, we just hit it off right away.”

It had only been half a month since they became acquainted, so how could they have built a deep bond with each other?

Some of them found him interesting, so they wanted to drag him out to have a great time together, while others were entranced by his personality and genuinely wanted to befriend him. As for the few exceptions… they simply wished to pursue him, as portrayed by the dandy pounding on the door earlier.

Even so, he was unwilling to discuss these matters with Duan Chi. In a bid to change the topic, he brought up the main issue. “This is my first time rolling in the hay, so they will surely be intrigued to know the gender and race of my partner. That’s why there’s no doubt that they will make a bet in secret, so you should probably take this time to consider the best way of leaving this place.”

Duan Chi proposed, “Are you willing to publicize our relationship?”

  Jing Xi responded, “No.”

Unsurprised by his answer, Duan Chi nodded his head.

In any case, he was merely testing the waters and also had no intention of publicizing their relationship at this moment.

With his large corporation, he had garnered numerous foes. If their uncertain relationship were to be revealed, there would be far too many uncertain variables.

During that lapse of time, he made his way to the balcony and took a glance down from his position. All of a sudden, it was as though something came over him when he turned to scan the upper stories of the building thoughtfully, contemplating whether that route was safe to execute.

Yet, Jing Xi followed him to the balcony without even batting an eye. At the mention of scaling the balconies, he hoped to change the “one against two” image Duan Chi had of him. As such, he inquired hesitantly, “Will this even work? The greatest height I dared to jump from was only three stories high. But you do know this is the seventh story, right? It’s definitely something I’ve never done before.”

He met Duan Chi’s eyes and explained earnestly, “I think you must have some misunderstanding about me. As for the other time, I had really punched above my weight. It was only my will to survive that allowed me to keep my wits about me and hold the two Lupinus Mutants off.”

Just as Jing Xi’s final words fell, Duan Chi had a look that was like a smile and yet not. “How about I carry you?”

After pondering for two seconds, Jing Xi proclaimed, “I have a safer idea.”
