And.

It was the day of the luncheon.

Since the high priest would especially attend, Faus’ scheduled morning class was excused.

I, who was not attending the luncheon, was also allowed to take the day off.

Supposedly.

But for some reason.

I was not skillful enough to sneakily administer poison under the supervision of the court lady, but I was concerned in terms of crisis management.

I looked around with uneasiness, especially since I was nervous about being in the inner part of the palace, deeper than where the usual classroom was.

“Theo?”

“Yes.”

“Do you want to hold hands?”

“No. It’s okay.”

Faus looked back at me with surprising timing, as if he had sensed my unease.

He had made an outrageous suggestion and, since Faus was a prince and I was a child of a commoner, I had no choice but to refuse.

Faus calmly smiled at me as I panicked and became flustered.

I felt my face begin to heat up.

I was awfully embarrassed.

As expected of a prince, Faus was wearing an outfit that was twice as sparkly compared to mine. He wasn’t outshone by the outfit. His unbearably sparkling smile matched his outfit.

The attendant led us down a long passageway, and as we approached the corridor leading to the pavilion in the garden where His Holiness was waiting for us, Faus suddenly stopped in his tracks.

“Older brother.”

“…”

With my head down, I followed Faus as he stepped back to the end of the corridor, and I drew back further along.

There were only a few people who could make Faus, the prince, step aside.

The King, the Queen, and the first prince, Baldassare.

If it was the first prince as Faus indicated, he was the sexual harassment prince who had crushed my glasses and grabbed the court lady’s bottom at our first meeting.

Frankly, I didn’t have a very good impression of him.

“You’re still making much of that little guy, Faustelaude.”

His oppressive voice echoed.

I did not doubt that ‘little guy’ meant me. He seemed to remember me well, even though he had completely ignored me the last time.

“Theodore is very clever, and he is my best friend.”

Faus answered with a stiff voice.

“Hmph. I hear he’s something of a weird guy. I hear he even cozied up to uncle, what insolence for a lowly commoner.”

The sound of footsteps drew nearer and louder.

I desperately fixed my eyes on my feet. My heart was pounding due to the malice that was clearly directed at me by the first prince.

“Look up. I will allow you to directly answer.”

“…!”

My shoulders trembled violently.

I knew the first prince was standing right in front of me, but I couldn’t move from fear.

His voice. And his large body. Everything was scary.

“I said look up, servant.”

“…hur!”

My chin began to hurt.

I didn’t scream, not because I was resilient, but because I was too surprised.

Only when I was forced to look up did I realize that I had been firmly grabbed by the cheeks and chin.

Because the first prince was tall, I was made to look almost directly straight upwards.

“Older brother! Please stop!”

Faus forcibly intervened.

He grabbed onto the prince’s arm that was clutching me. It was serious because he was clawing at him.

“You dare defy me, Faustelaude!”

He yelled at Faus with such a loud voice that it made my skin shudder, and I shrunk more and more.

But Faus didn’t back down.

“Bullying the weak is not something a monarch should do!”

“Shut up, you’re just my little brother, don’t butt in! What a black lion!

“No! Please let go of Theodore!”

The difference in physique between Faus and the first prince was like that of an adult and a child, but Faus still didn’t back down.

The first prince shook him off with one hand like Faus was not his opponent at all.

With great force, Faus was blown into the wall.

There was even the sound of his sparkling outfit being horribly torn apart.

Incidentally, the first prince let go of me, but I was more worried about Faus than about my stinging cheeks.

Still holding the plate of rice balls, I stared at Faus in a panic.

Although he had surely been sent flying into the wall, Faus got up immediately like a rubber ball.

What an amazing physical ability.

His clothes were torn, but he was uninjured, and, incidentally, his fighting spirit was undiminished.

His beautiful golden eyes were still glaring at his older brother.

It was a huge difference from the attendant, who was standing right beside me and was as unable to move as I was.

“Hmm.”

The first prince snorted provokingly and while deliberately ignoring Faus, who continued to glare at him, came towards me.

“What is this?”

The first prince pointed at the rice balls on the plate.

“It is called rice balls. Your Highness.”

I couldn’t stop the tremor in my voice. It was pathetic, but I was not as brave as Faus.

All I could do was try to keep my tears from falling.

“Ahh. This is what uncle was talking about.”

He grabbed one carelessly, took a bite, and sneered, “It’s awful.”

He threw the rice ball, that he had just taken a bite out of, towards the garden.

‘My goodness’, I thought, but my protest froze at the back of my throat.

I was so scared that I could not make a sound.

“Were you going to serve such vulgar food to my uncle?”

“Please apologize!”

Then jet black hair blocked my view.

Faus stood in front of me as I was frozen in place.

It was the back of Faus, who was slightly taller than me.

But it looked very reliable.

The first prince twisted his lips in a manner that seemed to make fun of Faus and me.

“Who would a commonerー”

His Highness Baldassare, who had begun to speak, suddenly disappeared from my vision.

Faus and I gasped at the same time.

“I taught you to treat food with respect!”

In the place where the prince had disappeared from, there now stood His Holiness Simone with his fists clenched.

What was happening?

TN: Baldassare is an asshole, period. I had a hard time translating this chapter because of him.
