After The Sweet Ending

Chapter 27: Benefits

Winking at Yu Shizhou, Xu Wei pursed her lips with a smile, her attitude was as if waiting for a good show. Yu Shizhou glanced at her, his brow furrowed,  soaking in the dappled sunlight.

Mother Yu looked at them, waiting for their answer. Yu Shizhou lightly said, “It was nothing, mom. Just think for yourself, Mom.”

Xu Wei was dumbfounded. He was so good at manipulation that he played Su Jing again. Yu Shizhou waited for Mother Yu until she returned the phone, and didn’t say much.

“Fine, I don’t have any idea what’s up with her. Let’s just say I messed with her. She insisted on inviting us to dinner, but we didn’t have much time,” Xu Wei explained dryly.

Yu Shizhou continued, “That’s true. She always said that Wei Wei is targeting her, but in fact, we only met her a few times, only at our house. She was quite reliable, but after she got married, I don’t know what happened.”

She used to think that he was a quiet and introverted person, and never thought he had such a poisonous tongue, especially when they were talking about Su Jing. Although he shouldn’t be mean, Xu Wei still felt good about this development.

Xu Wei hid behind Mother Yu, and winked her right eyes at him. When Mother Yu heard that, she frowned. She knew that Su Jing didn’t get along with her wealthy mother-in-law and was often fighting with Wan Lijue.

Su Jing’s mother often came to her, talking about Wan Lijue and  Su Jing always quarreling. Yesterday, she heard that Wan Lijue didn’t tell Su Jing that he was going on a business trip. The latter told her mother, and she  complained about it.

It was late afternoon, the cyan stone layer behind the tall buildings was getting darker and the leaves were rattling. Yu Shizhou stood under the streetlight, the wind blowing up the hem of his coat. His face was so handsome, his figure tall and lean, and his hair as black as ink.

His long legs were straight, and his teal-coloured eyes glanced around, noting Xu Wei’s movements. Yu Shizhou’s silhouette was so noticeable that Xu Wei just ran over to him.

Catching her in his arms, Xu Wei’s hair draped loosely over the two of them. She smiled and tilted her head. “Hey, has anyone ever told you that you’re very handsome?”

“Yes.” He bowed his head, smiled, and replied, “But it doesn’t sound as good when you say it.”

Why is his mouth so sweet? Xu Wei tiptoed and gave him a soft peck on the corner of his mouth. “Are you going out to the party? The last time you went out was when Du Qian got married.”

His eyebrow rose slightly as he remembered who it was. Yu Shizhou shook his head, and in a firm voice, he said, “No.”

“Let’s go.” Xu Wei grabbed his sleeve and shook it. “It’s rare for you to go out and have fun. ”

“When I see you happy, I’m already happy every day.” A soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

“I mean, it’s rare for you to have fun.” She rolled her eyes and counted on her fingers. “I like you a little more; Su Jing couldn’t make any waves; it’s a nice day.”

“Don’t mention her,” he said.

“Yes. So, are we going?”

He smiled but didn’t give an affirmative answer.  “What’s in it for me?” Yu Shizhou whispered with a hint of naughtiness, his warm breath brushed against her ear while his eyes glinted.

Xu Wei rubbed her eyes, her face a little warm. She tried to speak calmly, “What do you want then?”

He whispered after a while, looking at her, “Promise me, first. I’ll go if you say yes.”

Xu Wei was blushing, her cheeks red. She wanted to scold him for acting so naughty, but why did she like it so much in her heart?

The birthday party of Du Qian’s wife was held in the  last private room, and all their respective friends were invited. The people in their circle were very sophisticated, and all had their own companies and businesses. It was no problem to pick out one of them to stabilize the scene.

Xu Wei’s family was very wealthy, so some of them wanted to get involved with the Xu family and asked Du Qian to help them. So Du Qian dragged Xu Wei to play cards.

Xu Wei asked, “Do you think I look like I know how to play cards?

“I’m just trying to make up the number of players, if we lose, it’s on me, okay?”

Lin Jing, who was also their  childhood friend, also advised, “Go ahead, I’ll entertain your man. I need to ask him about something. “

Lin Jing also graduated from Jiaotong University and was Yu Shizhou’s roommate. But because Lin Jing was too playful, and changed girlfriends so frequently, Xu Wei didn’t like him. They didn’t interact much while they were in school, but became closer after graduation.

Some people around the table looked familiar, but some of them had never seen each other before. Xu Wei was really not very good at playing cards, and after a few rounds she could see that the top player had been feeding her cards.

When she looked over in confusion, the other player had a friendly smile and did not appear to be taking advantage of the situation. But she knew that there wasn’t such a good thing, and the other must be after something such as benefits. She knew the unspoken rules in the high society and business world.

Lin Jing took a cocktail and leaned against the bar. “What’s up? I’m really counting on you.”

Yu Shizhou took a sip of his drink, his left hand in his pocket, his figure handsome and mysterious in the  dim corner. “You want to play a game, what do you want with me?”

“You’re pretending you don’t know?” Lin Jing said, “Who doesn’t know that you, a senior physics student, can also be an IT and write programs and is a software expert.”

“We lived in the  same dormitory, maybe you can at least lend me a hand. I won’t treat you badly.” Lin Jing pleaded. “If you don’t agree, I’ll go to Wei wei and ask for help.”

Yu Shizhou’s cold  eyes swept over Lin Jing, then he spoke in a cold voice, “You call her Wei Wei, too?”

Lin Jing choked, feeling suffocated.

On the other hand, Xu Wei, after a dozen rounds, was embarrassed because she was always winning. She glanced around, searching for Yu Shizhou. Then, she found him talking to Lin Jing. She waved and came up to him.

Xu Wei whispered in his ear, “I always win, so I don’t want to play anymore. What should I do?”

As soon as Yu Shizhou heard this, he understood and looked at Lin Jing. As soon as he received his wink, Lin Jing came up and said with a smile, “How much is it? If you don’t want to play anymore, it’s my turn to play.”

Xu Wei stepped back from the poker table and breathed a light sigh of relief, “Du Qian, this bastard. This party isn’t really a normal one.”

If there was something he wanted to talk about, he should have gone to the company directly, or he  could have done it in a subtle way. What was  the point of using a poker game and stuffing her money?

Du Qian smiled. “Wei Wei, don’t be so upright. If you lose, you lose it. If you can help, you can do something about it.”

“Wicked capitalists, veteran, and a master of scheming.” She muttered a few words in a low voice, “I don’t care about my family’s affairs. They’re looking for the wrong temple to worship Buddha. They should have asked others, and it would be more straightforward.”

Du Qian laughed and didn’t say anything. If the one at the helm of the Xu family was so easy to invite, there would be no need to resort to this. When Xu Wei noticed his lofty and unpredictable expression, she  felt as if he was a master.

Although the place wasn’t that far, it was almost midnight when they went back, Xu Wei thought about what happened at the party and sighed, “It’s changed, it’s all changed.”

While driving, Yu Shizhou looked back at her, “What has changed?”

“I’ll tell you.” She was excited. “In the past, Du Qian was the most outstanding and progressive person of his age, and we all grew up under his light. My grandfather even said back then that he was not arrogant, not impatient, a rare honest man. Nowadays, I don’t see him as honest at all.”

The story went on and on as she told him about the  story of the children in their neighborhood. Yu Shizhou listened with rapt attention because it was rare for Xu Wei to talk about her childhood, and it was a good sign that she didn’t include Wan Lijue.

It was late when they arrived home and the city was ablaze with lights.

She was exhausted after she took  a shower, but luckily she didn’t have to work tomorrow. Yu Shizhou had a bath towel around him as he walked out of the bathroom, his hair wet and still dripping, his handsome face slightly red from the steam.

His lips were supple and bright, a touch of laziness hung at the end of his eyes and his shoulders were straight. The water on his neck slid over his toned pecs, kissed his lean abs and burrowed into the white towel.

Although she saw him naked more than once, Xu Wei was still a bit shy. She buried her face on the palm of her hands. Yu Shizhou sat down  at the edge of the bed. ”Wei  Wei, remember what you promised me earlier?”

After a pause, she moved on the other side of the bed and wrapped herself with the quilt. Her muffled voice came from under the blanket. “No, I don’t remember.

Yu Shizhou laughed. “Wei Wei, no cheating. Do you really think I’ll let you off the hook the first time you promised me something?”

It seemed to be unkind, but when she thought about it, she was really, realy, shy. She was like a giant cocoon rolling on the bed. Xu Wei gently stretched out her head. Her long hair was in a mess. Her face was red as if covered with makeup, her dark eyes were misty, and her lips were pink. “But I don’t know how to do it.”

He smiled and said, “I’ll teach you.”

Underneath Yu Shizhou’s elegant, gentlemanly look was a dark wolf with a pair of beady eyes staring deeply at the prey he’d fallen for. It wouldn’t be easy to get off once you were in the boat of the thieves.

Xu Wei racked her brain, wondering why she agreed to his baffling request. She never thought that what would make him happy and comfortable in bed was beyond her imagination.
