After Rebirth, I was Entangled by a Second Generation Rich Guy Again

Chapter 19

Wen Yu carried the microwave oven all the way to the residential building across the school road for Ji Anning. He insisted on going upstairs and delivered it to Ji Anning’s doorstep.

“Let’s leave it here,” Ji Anning said. “Go back early.”

Wen Yu refused, “Since we’re already here, let me put it inside your house.”

Ji Anning fell silent for a moment, lowered her eyes, and said softly, “My grandmother is at home, and her mind… is not very convenient.”

Wen Yu suddenly remembered what was reported about Ji Anning’s grandmother being senile. He didn’t insist any further and gladly placed the box at the doorstep, saying, “Alright, then I’ll leave.”

“Just a moment,” Ji Anning called out to him. She took out a plastic wallet with cracked corners and said, “How much for lunch? I’ll give it back to you.”

Wen Yu looked at her cheap and worn-out wallet, rolled his eyes, extended his arm, pressed against the door, and got close to Ji Anning.

Ji Anning instinctively leaned back, pressing tightly against the door panel.

She came back early today, and her grandmother was still awake, happily watching TV. The accumulated smell from the toilet lingered in the house, emitting a faint odor.

Ji Anning put down the box, went to flush the toilet first, opened the windows for ventilation, and felt a bit better. However, the scent of Wen Yu’s body had already been overwhelmed by the room’s unpleasant odor.

Ji Anning helped her grandmother take a bath, assisted her in getting into bed, and threw the soiled clothes into the washing machine.

When they moved into this house, it came with some basic furniture—a double bed, a reasonably-sized wardrobe, and a sofa with one seat that had already collapsed. As for appliances, there was only an old, bulky television and a noisy, old washing machine, both reportedly left behind by the previous owner. Their trash became convenient for Ji Anning.

Now, with the addition of the microwave oven, they had three major appliances in the house.

She took a shower herself, reading a book while air-drying her hair. When the washing machine finally quieted down, she hung up the clothes. Her hair was almost dry, and she crawled into bed.

Her grandmother was already asleep, her breathing sometimes heavy, sometimes light, occasionally pausing for several seconds, causing Ji Anning to feel fearful and nervous.

Perhaps due to bathing before bed, she had trouble falling asleep and lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.

The house had simple decorations, but it was old. Some of the plaster lines were broken, looking as if they could fall from the ceiling at any moment.

Gradually, drowsiness overcame her, and she entered a state of haze.

In a daze, she seemed to see a bright light, with muscular figures in the boxing ring, each punch filled with power. The sound of the strikes was slow, echoing in her ears.

He took off his headgear, shook his head, and droplets of glistening sweat fell.

Suddenly, he turned his head, giving a mischievous smile—it was Wen Yu’s face.

His face approached her suddenly, his arm pressed against the door, trapping her in a narrow space between his arm and the door.

His scent lingered clearly at her nose, and the cold smile on his lips magnified in her eyes.

She felt her throat go dry.

The scene abruptly changed—a cold, solitary prison cell with a hard, wooden bed.

During the last few days of waiting for execution, he would occasionally masturbate while uttering her name. 2 Remember, her soul travelled to where the person was when they called her name.

Ji Anning didn’t find it dirty or disgusting. She even drifted over, leaning down to try to kiss his lips, but she couldn’t touch them.

She could only cover her face and sob.

In the morning, when she was awakened by her grandmother’s shaking, she opened her eyes drowsily, and the morning light filtering through the window felt unreal. She didn’t know which life was the dream.

After finishing her busy noon tasks and rushing back to the cafeteria, she was about to reach the food counter with her meal card in hand when suddenly someone grabbed her wrist.

Ji Anning turned her head and saw that the person holding her wrist was none other than Wen Yu.

“I’ve been waiting for you for half a day,” he said impatiently. “Hurry up.”

With that, he grabbed Ji Anning’s wrist and started walking.

“Hey!” Ji Anning struggled a couple of times but couldn’t break free. “What are you doing?”

“What am I doing? Eating, of course,” Wen Yu said discontentedly. It is said that men have a bad temper when they are hungry, and Wen Yu now fully understood that.

While speaking, Wen Yu pulled Ji Anning to a table for four. Chen Hao had just brought a tray and was about to sit down. When he saw Ji Anning, he exclaimed, “Hey, you finally made it!” and then ran off again.

On the other side, Sun Kai also approached with a tray full of food, muttering, “I’m starving, I’m going to starve!”

Wen Yu forced Ji Anning to sit down, and Chen Hao had already come back with rice—directly instructing the auntie to put a bowl of rice and four empty bowls in a empty vegetable dish.

Ji Anning was dumbfounded.

“Let’s eat! Let’s eat!”

“I’m dying of hunger!”

The two boys skillfully filled a bowl full of rice for Ji Anning and handed it to her. The table was full of dishes, and the aroma of the food wafted into her nostrils. Ji Anning’s stomach couldn’t help but let out a growling sound.

She looked up at Wen Yu sitting across from her.

Wen Yu had already started eating and looked at her as he raised his eyes. Seeing that she hadn’t touched her chopsticks, he picked up a piece of spare rib and put it in her bowl, saying, “Eat.”

Ji Anning didn’t say anything, she lowered her head and took a bite of the spare rib. The rich broth and tender meat made it taste really delicious.

At home, Ji Anning only cooked spare ribs or braised pork occasionally. Meat was really expensive now.

“Why are you guys eating so late today?” Ji Anning asked somewhat anxiously.

“We were waiting for you,” Chen Hao, with his chubby cheeks, mumbled unclearly, “You’re the only girl in our combat club, the club’s flower! Wen Ge said we must take care of you and eat together from now on.”

Ji Anning glanced at Wen Yu. He was focused on eating, and he also seemed very hungry. After Ji Anning finished her part-time delivery job and came to the cafeteria, most of her classmates had already finished eating.

These kids of her age, each one of them seemed like wolves, wanting to devour an entire cow. Could they not be hungry if they waited for her?

Ji Anning lowered her head and took another mouthful of rice, silently chewing and swallowing. She looked up and said to Wen Yu, “Don’t wait for me anymore. I usually finish late, and sometimes I eat at home, not at school every day.”

After experiencing today’s hunger, Wen Yu also knew that it wasn’t realistic to expect Ji Anning to eat lunch with them every day. Asking her to stop doing part-time deliveries and eat with them on time was even more unrealistic—this girl may seem fragile, but she had a stubborn spirit.

Wen Yu raised his eyes and said, “Alright.” After that, he called out, “Chen Hao!”

Chen Hao looked up.

Wen Yu placed his chopsticks on the bowl and reached out, taking the meal card that Ji Anning had casually placed on the corner of the table and handed it to Chen Hao, saying, “Go, use our club’s food subsidy to recharge Anning’s card.”

Since when did the club have a food subsidy?

Chen Hao had been following Wen Yu for a long time and understood his thoughts very well. Seeing Ji Anning reaching out to snatch back her meal card, he quickly dodged her by moving his arm.

“Alright! Right away!” He immediately got up and ran towards the recharge window. As he ran, he shouted back, “Save some spare ribs for me!”

Ji Anning failed to retrieve her meal card and glanced at Wen Yu.

Wen Yu puffed up his cheeks, noticed her gaze, paused his chopsticks for a moment, and then picked up a large piece of braised chicken and put it in her bowl. He said, “Eat more. You’re too thin. Without strength, how can you train in combat?”

Ji Anning lowered her eyes, her gaze deep.

In her past life, Wen Yu would send her flowers, bags, cosmetics, perfumes, and jewelry. She wouldn’t accept them, so he would try different things, firmly believing that there must be something that would move her. He even followed her to every place she worked, driving his lavish car.

In this life, he promised not to use a monetary approach and instead took care of her daily needs.

Ji Anning ate her rice while pondering. Somehow, she felt that for Wen Yu, who believed that money could buy everything, this could be considered a form of progress.

Wen Yu stopped his chopsticks and raised an eyebrow. “What are you laughing at?”

Ji Anning looked up and said, “I’m laughing at how much you guys can eat.”

The boys really had enormous appetites. That big bowl of rice had visibly decreased in a matter of minutes. Wen Yu and Sun Kai had already finished their second serving.

After a few minutes, Chen Hao came running back with a smile on his face and returned the card to Ji Anning. “Junior sister, here you go. I’ve replenished your meal allowance.”

Ji Anning politely accepted it and thanked them.

Chen Hao squinted his eyes and winked at Wen Yu.

Under Ji Anning’s watch, the entire big bowl of rice was indeed devoured.

After finishing her meal, Ji Anning wiped her mouth and stood up, saying, “I’ll be going now…”

As she saw Wen Yu looking at her, perhaps due to the saying that the person who eats together is a close acquaintance, she paused and told him, “The sun is nice at noon. I’ll take my grandmother downstairs to bask in the sun.”

It seemed that since yesterday, Ji Anning had shown a faint tenderness and patience towards him.

A smile appeared in Wen Yu’s eyes as he raised the corners of his mouth. “Go ahead.”

Ji Anning nodded and left.

Once her figure disappeared, Wen Yu turned to Chen Hao and asked, “How much did you recharge for her?”

Chen Hao replied, “One thousand.”

Wen Yu was dissatisfied, “Why so little?”

Chen Hao explained with a grievance, “I only had eight hundred in my card. I scoured my whole body to find the remaining two hundred in cash.”

Wen Yu asked, “What about the card for the club’s activity funds?”

“It’s locked in the dorm,” Chen Hao said even more aggrievedly. “I only dare to use it during group activities.”

Wen Yu pinched his brow, “Alright…”

On the other side of the cafeteria, Sun Yaxian had been holding a milk tea and observing Wen Yu’s table.

Originally, she had finished eating with her classmates and was about to leave. But when she swept her gaze and saw Wen Yu, her eyes lit up. She was contemplating how to approach him when suddenly she saw Wen Yu standing up and heading straight for Ji Anning, pulling her to eat together.

Sun Yaxian pretended to want to buy milk tea and sent away her female classmates, staying behind alone to quietly observe.

Didn’t that Ji Anning say she rejected Wen Yu? Yet, with just a turn of her head, she was happily eating and drinking with him. Hmph.

After Ji Anning left, Wen Yu and his companions chatted for a while and then planned to leave. Sun Yaxian bit her lip, holding her milk tea, and walked over.

Wen Yu and his two friends were leisurely walking outside after finishing their meal when suddenly they heard a high-pitched voice exclaim, “Ah~!”

Wen Yu glanced sideways and saw a girl “falling” towards him in an embrace-like posture, as if the floor was slippery.

Sansukini: I think Wen Yu has one of the best character development in the c-novels I have read so far. He wasn’t that bad, in the first place. He is filial to his parents and loyal to his friends. He was just too aggressive and obsessed when it came to her. And we all see this from Ji Anning’s perspective. The results of his actions were really bad for her, but it wasn’t all his fault. I’m not gaslighting his actions, if a girl says “NO”, it doesn’t mean woo me more. There’s no blurred lines here. His approached was wrong because he stereotyped all women as the materialistic type, but we can see him changing and trying to understand her values more and more after rebirth.

I hope we get to see what happened that time when he suddenly disappeared and only returned after her death. I think maybe it has something to do with his family situation….like something happened to the company.

Yes we will see it later. But see, our FL doesn’t have any plot armor, not even the knowledge of what happened in the past. So… que sera sera… la la la.
